"Upscale hotel, convenient location"
This comfortable, modern hotel is in a very convenient location that's within walking distance to plenty of restaurants, the waterfront and shopping. Though rather small rooms, they're comfortable and well-appointed. The hotel offers free wifi and their gym has a number of machines and free weights. Hotel staff is helpful and friendly. Parking is $30 valet (w/in and out privileges) or you can park directly across the street (no in and out) for $20/day. There's so much nearby we didn't need our car. I'd stay here again.

"Great hotel, great downtown location"
Stayed here for my first trip to Portland. The location of the hotel is very convenient, close to many attractions, restaurants, and public transit pickups. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. I called ahead of time asking about any coupons for local attractions. They were able to reserve two tickets for me, and were ready for me when I checked in. Upon checkout, we were able to leave our bags with the front desk as we spent the rest of our day around town, and returned to pick up our bags late in the afternoon. The concierge checked to make sure we had enough time to take the train back to the airport, and gave us a kind farewell. I would definitely stay here again.

We were looking for a comfortable hotel, centrally located to explore downtown Portland. We were very impressed by the restaurant. "Great, affordable downtown hotel"
Recently spent 4 days in Portland, and had to find a last-minute hotel. The Benson was terrific, all-round. The location is perfect, 3 or four short blocks from Pioneer Square, the MAX light rail, etc., in a delightful building. My room, a queen-size, was large, cool, and clean. The bed was super comfortable. I only ate breakfast once in the hotel, but it (blueberry pancakes) was delicious. Best of all, the hotel offers a companion fish program, which meant that I shared my room with a beautiful blue Betta for the duration. Perfect for the solo traveler. I happily recommend the Benson to others visiting Portland.
