I was there for the World Cup match and found it so convenient to the airport and the train station . What a nice crew they had and service was excellent. The only complaint that I have, is that they don't have a hotel phone boot there upon arrival to inform them to pick up. The hotel is right across the airport and my brother said let's take a taxi. When a saw a police Lieutenant I asked my brother to ask him since he spoke portogees and the lieutenant took upon himself to call the hotel and they send us a shuttle. What a nice experience with a perfect stranger. Overall every thing was great and hoop to visit Porto Alegre again in the near future since I already have visa for ten years to Brazil, I will be visiting it in 2 years again with a group of family.

We booked this hotel based upon location, kitchenette and price. We were in Porto Alegre only the two nights we stayed at this hotel so it is difficult to comment on because we have nothing to compare to. That said, it is close to the few cultural attractions listed in guide books and the web. It is on the main pedestrian street in the old city and near the wet market. Little if any English spoken by staff. Breakfast the usual fare for a brasilian hotel in this category. Room was large. Kitchenette consisted of a small sink, mini fridge full of mini bar fare for sale, a small counter again full of minibar fare for sale and a mini microwave on a shelf close to six feet from the ground. Girlfriend could not reach it. Nothing to microwave in - we purchased at supermarket. Internet was painfully slow. Snail mail may have been quicker! Overall, quite averàge. One sometime English speaking tv station and CNN international. Mini safe in room was the size of a cookie box, wasn't connected to anything and had no lock!

The hotel is very good and well worth the amount that I paid. I am very happy with the overall experience. Its in a good location if you have business with the Federal University Rio Grande del Sul, which I did. However, Porto Alegre is a fairly edgy town. There was an armed robbery one day on the same street as the hotel. Brazil is best described as edgy in my opinion though it was a quite beautiful place.
