Great old fashionable hotel

Posted Jul 31, 2015
I had a very nice stay at this hotel. It's a beautiful old hotel with a lot of character. Nice size rooms. Good shower. Decent breakfast included in the price. Staff friendly and helpful. The location is perfect!!! Not too many downsides. I got a room with two really small beds that were not super comfortable. No A/C, which would be very useful because of the high humidity in Porto. Wifi was working intermittently. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience in this really charming hotel. I would definitely stay again.

A hotel with lots of character , although not so sure about the 'grand' bit! Good breakfast and perfect for sight seeing around the town.

Very good location but old fashioned.

This hotel certainly has an old fashioned charm but that didn't extend to the bedrooms which are tired, with thin and not very clean bedding and the decor resembling a university halls of residence from the Sixties.

Lovely old hotel, full of charm and history.

Posted Jul 17, 2015
Pros: The staff who were great throughout our stay, the location which is near to a lot of the main tourist attractions and transport.
Cons: Nothing substantial, perhaps a lick of paint here and there but purely for cosmetic purposes.
Location: Right in the centre of town, walking distance to most of the attractions (although be warned Porto is very hilly). The tourist buses all stop nearby.
Lovely old hotel full of history and charm. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Good location but try and get a room at the back as the street can be noisy. The stops for all the tour buses are a short distance away and it is easy walking distance to the main train station and metro station. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here agin.

Zwar sehr hellhörig und anstatt eines gewünschten Doppelbetts nur ein Twin Bed bekommen, aber dennoch ein stilvolles Hotel mit lobenswertem Frühstück.

Delightful Hotel.

Posted Jun 25, 2015
Pros: The exceptional cleanliness of the whole hotel and its well maintained historical features. Very central for getting around and viewing the sites.
Cons: Air conditioning in every room. Inform guests of the Sao Juao celebrations as we had very little restful sleep during our 4 nights stay.
Location: Very central to all the historical sights and close to the River Douro. Ideal position for exploring Porto. Perfect location.
A very pleasant stay. Staff were very friendly. The hotel is exceptionally clean and well maintained. It has many interesting and historical features. A delightful garden to sit in and enjoy breakfast. A good spread at breakfast time with a wide range of homemade foods The only down side was that the smaller rooms have no air conditioning and that the shower doors were incredibly small to get through even for the slimmest of people. We stayed here during the Sao Juao celebrations and because of this had 4 nights of very little unbroken sleep. Would not recommend the hotel during these times. A stage is erected on Avenida Aliados, which is close by and live music is belted out from here until 2 in the morning. The public then congregate up this hotel's street until 4 am or even nearly morning. This is a major factor to consider during this time. The hoteliers said that this was normal every year.

Quaint and Quirky

Location: Easy to get to the Ribeiro, the town centre, up the Duoro by rail or boat or to the Atlantic by bus or metro.
Excellent location. Well trained staff. great breakfast room and eat in garden in summer. Lots of antiques of byd gone era in fitting with being the oldest hotel on Porto.
