Beautiful hotel in great locationPosted Sep 15, 2013
Pros: The beautiful downstairs rooms, the helpful staff and the excellent location. It was extremely quiet despite being on a busy road.
Cons: The rooms were rather small and could have had a little more decoration and fewer mirrors!! You shouldn't have to pay for the safe and Wifi.
Location: Central location not far from the city sightseeing attractions.A few minutes from the Metro, close toTourist Information and coach and train stations
Spent 4 days here with 2 friends in single rooms and was very satisfied. The reception rooms were beautiful, the staff very helpful and the location was excellent. Would come back without hesitation.

Excellent - location, very helpful staff, clean.Posted Aug 12, 2013
Cons: wifi not free
Location: good central location.
Excellent location, quiet, staff very friendly and helpful, providing lots of information and speaking good English. Rooms small, but air conditioning very good, very clean and comfortable. Twin room bigger than double. Breakfast very good, wide choice and quickly replenished. Dinner also good and sensibly priced. Recommended.

Great hotel for central positionPosted Jun 30, 2013
Pros: Friendliness of the staff on reception, especially Nuno and cleanliness of the hotel with efficient and quiet air condition
Cons: Smoking room
Location: Very central for getting around Porto
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Grande Hotel Do Porto very much. The special requests that we asked for were met in full and the room was a good size. On the plus side we found the hotel reception staff to be very efficient and friendly and dealt with any requests in a professional manner. The dinning room was wonderful, a complete change from the canteen like experience of some modern hotels and the breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Central position was excellent with good access to local transport links, the Bolhao metro stop only a short distance from the hotel. On the minus side we thought like other reviewers that 2 euros an hour for wifi was expensive when many hotels give it for free and we were also surprised to find that the room safety deposit box cost 3 euros a day when we assumed it was included in the price. The positioning of the smoking room is not good as it is adjacent to the bar which can be off putting for non smokers, maybe a better ventilation system would help. That apart, we had a great time in Porto and would recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel well locstedPosted Jun 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
Lovely room but very small. Hotel in fantastic location and staff very helpful and friendly. Stayed in to eat both nights, food excellent without being ridiculously priced. Would recommend (if you don't mind small rooms).

Nice hotel with lots of characterPosted Apr 29, 2013
Just got back from spending the weekend at the Grande Hotel do Porto. It is one of the oldest hotels in Porto & the main public areas have bags of character. Rooms have a minimalist design but are comfortable & well equipped. Situated on Rua Sta Caterina it is well placed for the town centre but a little distance from the waterfront area. Metro station is very close. We were in town to watch a concert at the Coliseum which is about 500 metres from the hotel. We would stay here again.
