Nice 5* hotelPosted Sep 26, 2013
Pros: Good facilities, excellent indoor and out door pools, gym etc. close to very large deserted beach with lovely sand
Cons: Coffee at breakfast
Location: Beautiful position with boardwalk along beach to next villages 1-2km with a host of excellent restaurants (much better value than hotel) & shops.
Very comfortable, good service and wonderful position. 20 min by car to Porto or train service 1-2km to station.

Very good hotel needs a bit of updatingPosted Aug 4, 2013
Pros: The staff and the pool area
Cons: Outside condition
Location: Good spot but you will require a car
Hotel may be a bit dated and needs a bit of money spent on the outside and in the bedrooms, but the service from the staff cannot be faulted. The pool area is very good for families and adults and it is easy to get to the beach via the rail tunnel. It is still a favourite hotel of me and my family(have been twice before) and a good base to explore the local area we shall return soon.

Great servicePosted Jul 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
We spent a week and had an excellent time. The staff went out of their way and were very patient with the kids at the restaurant. Very good value and extremely friendly, we would definitely stay again and recommend it.

Great food, service and spa but very datedPosted Jul 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in mid July in a superior room. I will start with the good points. Service was excellent and staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was also excellent and we enjoyed the traditional Portuguese buffet on Thursday night with Fado music which was very good value and delicious. The spa was very smart and modern. However, the rest of the hotel was very dated and in much need of modernisation. The tiles on the outside of the hotel are falling off and the rooms, foyer and all public areas are dated and unattractive. The room was clean but very dark as it had just a small balcony and no window. The sea view from the bedroom overlooked the hotel below with canvas sheets and bricks littering the view. Beyond this was a lovely sea view though across the dunes to the ocean. The windowless Kids club in the basement was tiny and had nothing more than a play station and a few Lego type toys to play with. The staff seemed friendly but we did not chose to leave our child there. The pool bar is closed for the year due to water damage last year and the mini golf course had weeds growing out of it. The whole place is in real need of a total refurbishment and I think that realistically it should be a 3 star. It has a 1970's feel to it - very tired looking.

Perfect place to relaxPosted Jul 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Solverde Wellness and Spa did not disappoint. It's location was a pleasant 2km outside the main town of Espinho which was accessible via the boardwalk in front of the hotel. This meant it was a peaceful idyll in which to relax and unwind. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful from the concierge at the door to the cleaning staff who worked hard to keep the hotel spotless. The weather for our stay was overcast and we were glad to make use of the indoor pool and spa on a regular basis as well as hitting the beach when the sun made anappearance. There were tennis courts, mini golf, table tennis as well as the outdoor pool all at no extra charge. Breakfast was what you would expect from a continental buffet and catered for all tastes with fresh fruit every morning which was exceptional. It was the relaxing atmosphere and the friendly staff that made our stay so enjoyable. Will def be back.

Not quite what I expected.Posted Nov 14, 2012
Pros: It's close to Lidl so you can buy your own food rather than eat at the hotel.
Cons: Food was horrible.
Location: Close to a town called Espinho. Not much to do there though. Kind of a run down place. Better to take the train from Granja station to Sao Bento.
The reason for booking this hotel was for the 5 star rating. The hotel at most was probably 3 stars. And that's being generous. The room was a decent size but expected better quality bed and bathroom. TV was a 27" CRT from the mid 90's. I expected a flat panel but that's just me. I usually like a huge TV in my hotel rooms. The mini bar fridge was a tiny and out dated. On the outside it states that the fridge is exclusively for hotel drinks. Basically saying not to put your own stuff in there. Not that we didn't but... come on now. If your a 5 star hotel why do you care what we do with the mini bar fridge? We ordered room service the first night and the food was pretty bad so the next day we went across the street to Lidl to grab a few things to make our own sandwiches. I asked if they could bring us a fork, knife and some mayo packets. When the guy arrived at the door with the stuff he handed me a bill for 3 euros. For utensils and some sauce packets??? Come on now. The swimming pool was nice... there's not hot tub though. Unless you pay extra. The sauna areas are not co-ed so if you go with your gf or wife,be prepared to relax on your own. Oh and to swim in the pool, even to just lounge, you must wear a swim cap. And if you don't bring your own, then you have to buy one for 4 euros each. Come on now. All in all... pretty disappointed in the exerience I had here.

Great for a short breakPosted Sep 24, 2012
Pros: The swimming pools and grounds were excellent
Location: Easy access to the airport, self contained, but surrounding area not much
The hotel is in excellent order and the staff friendly and reliable. The surrounding area is not special but the hotel provides everything for a relaxing break. The restaurant provides excellent quality at fair prices.
Good location to the beachPosted Sep 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
We had a lovely stay and could not fault the hotel,we did find the town was a little bit lacking good restuarants and a 2k walk from the hotel but a taxi back was only 5 euros. We were lucky there was a festival on for 3 nights because there is not a lot to do in Espinho.
