A great alternative to Cinque Terre hotelsPosted Nov 12, 2011 on Hotels.com
We booked this hotel when we couldn't find an affordable opening in Cinque Terre (our intended destination). Hotel Stagnaro turned out to be a pleasant surprise! It is a slightly older building, but it was very clean. The bed was reasonably comfortable but the shower was TINY (even by Italian standards)! You can walk about 3 miles to the train station in Sestri Levante, which is where we arrived on our train from Rome, and also where we caught the local train to Cinque Terre. The desk staff were very helpful, despite our limited Italian and their limited English. They gave excellent restaurant recommendations in Lavagna, which turned out to be hidden gems. Overall, a convenient and inexpensive alternative to touristy Cinque Terre. Would stay here again.

Hotel StagnaroPosted Sep 20, 2011 on Hotels.com
I stayed here for just one night during a business trip. The hotel is right on the sea front and if you have a room at the front, the views are great (unless you're on the lower floors as there is a big tree). The staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again, however, the downside is that there is a busy road and a railway line between the hotel and the beach (you do not have to cross either due to a subway). The trains run all night and woke me at least 3 times. The road is also noisy enough to spoil the joy of opening the patio doors to breath in the sea air. I am writing the truth but feel bad as I really enjoyed my brief stay here and through no fault of this little hotel there are some negatives!

Clean, Comfortable, SafePosted Jun 23, 2011
My friend and I just spent 2 nights at Hotel Stagnaro. We arrived after midnight to the hotel on both nights and the gentleman who works at night was very friendly. I don't speak Italian and he doesn't speak much English, but my Spanish helped a bit. The parking is free, which is a money saver. The lady who is the owner was pleasant. On the last morning, we overslept the breakfast hour, but she let us eat as the gal was cleaning up the breakfast room. Breakfast is rolls, cake, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, milk, and coffee/tea. We were hiking the cinque terre trail, so it's not really that close. We drove to Sestri Levante, parked the car for a daily fee, and took the train to Corniligia. That took over an hour to reach our destination. There is a train stop across from the hotel, but stops are limited, so we just drove. Our room overlooked the small plaza area and across the street is the sea! We had the door cracked to the balcony and the waves crashing, occassional train, and cars coming by made some noise. With the door closed, it's quite. The hotel is a typical beach resort hotel with tile floors and bright open spaces and simple decor in the color blue. The bathroom is very small, but still managed to have a bidet! The shower was good. The sink is very little (think old porclean spit sinks in dentists offices) and it's easy to miss while brushing your teeth. We wished it were closer to our destination, but we enjoyed our stay. Can't beat the price.

Great hotelPosted Aug 27, 2008
I travelled to Cavi with my son and mom, and we all loved this hotel. The room was super clean and confortable. The people running it were very nice, and they were always willing to help. The continental breakfast was excellent (fresh croissants, bread, cold cuts, yogurts, cereal, juices, milk, coffee, etc). It's also located a short walk from the beach (i.e. less than 2 minutes). The parking was quite small, but management will let you stack park your car if you let your keys at the direction. (I did it for two days, and no one scratched my car.)

Good basic hotelPosted Jul 3, 2008 on Hotels.com
Hotel was in a great location for the beach. The Hotel itself is very basic and fairly old but the room was nice and clean. Great for a budget stop over.

too noisyPosted May 14, 2008
close to the busiest road you ve seen by the beach very friendly personnel but still an ugly hotel with limited services, but the cheapest amongst all...if it s for one night with your pal it s ok but not for an escape...
