A true gem of the Italian Riviera! We ended up in Santa Margherita Ligure as it was more reasonably priced than Portofino. So glad we did, wonderful beach front and leisurely walking along the shops. We took the ferry (a short 15 minute ride) to Portofino which is quite lovely and should definitely be experienced. The room at Lido was very nice; roomy, clean and an amazing view of the beach and water. Excellent location.

Wanted and got basic good hotel in great location. Bus stop across the street, walking distance to/from the train station. Across the street from the beach. Breakfast is great, service is great.

Not the most comfortable bed I've slept in, but certainly not the worst. We slept fine. Thus I gave comfort 3 out of 5 since bed comfort is paramount for me. Also, even though internet access was free, it was very shaky and went in and out. The last night I couldn't even get internet access. The pros; Spacious rooms, clean, free good breakfast, walking distance to ferry that takes you into Portofino, close to the main train station, right across the street from beach access, well priced.

My husband and I recently made a trip to Santa Margherita and were pleasantly surprised with our stay at Lido Palace Hotel. Upon arrival, the hotel coordinated transportation from Genoa Airport to hotel which started our trip on a positive note. The rooms was much larger than we had anticipated and the view was spectacular! We were delighted to have superb air conditioning - at times we had to turn down as it was almost too cool. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was large. If I had to provide any negative feedback / recommendations it would be to upgrade hair dryer (it works but not the best) and that they do not provide iron / ironing board upon request due to safety hazard - however, this seems common in Italy. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Lido Palace.

The hotel has a wonderful view. Next time I would get the same suite but with terrace not balcony. You cant see the view when your sitting down.... Other than that it's a beautiful in Santa Margarita. I would stay there again over Portofino. Portofino is beautiful but my boys just loved being across from the beach area.
