Very disappointing customer service

Posted May 3, 2014
Cons: Customer service.
Had a very disappointing experience at this hotel and would not recommend to a friend. My partner and I booked a double bed room through Expedia but when we checked in we were greeted by two single beds. I understand mistakes sometimes happen with hotel booking, but never have I had an issue resolved so poorly. When we returned to reception to request a double bed room we were immediately told that there were no rooms available, before the receptionist checked the computer to see whether or not this was the case. When I persevered and showed by registration from Expedia requesting a double bed, the receptionists response was that the details did not come through and this was Expedia's problem, not theirs. Again, she didn't check the computer or any files before making this statement. I continued to hold my ground and said that I expected to get what I paid for. Their solution, after consulting with a colleague, was that there was a room available for 20 Euro more a night. When I replied I didn't want to pay 20 Euro more a night, and really just wanted what I paid for, I was eventually told that there was a different room available with a double bed. 45 minutes of our vacation wasted with no apology and no offer of compensation. Most concerning was refusing to honour my Expedia order details, even after seeing my confirmation papers. The message was clear: Expedia's fault, and definitely not their problem.

Top service in beautiful surroundings

Art deco interior and surrounding gardens are beautiful. Room was a bit small, but the excellent service makes up for it. Good value for money (cheap rate through hotels.com)

Good location as a touring hub.

Posted Oct 10, 2013
Pros: Recently updated, this hotel is very quiet and clean.
Cons: After all the renovations, the elevator is very small and has a fairly low weight limit. It should have been improved at the time of the renovations.
Location: Nice hub for touring the complete Eastern part of Sao Miguel. Short ride to lake where in ground thermal cooking is done, close to geysers, etc.
Everything about the facility was fine. Lounge and restaurant, food and drinks were quite good. Free admission to Botanicle Gardens was an excellent perk that comes with your stay. Thermal Pool which was also an added perk to your hotel stay is overrated. The iron filled / sulfuric water was a yellow brown, your body and suits are covered with this yellow / brown tint and a lot of clean-up is required after use of this pool. You'd be better off to go up the street and pay the minor admission cost and go to the other thermal pool in the area where the water is crystal clear water feels a lot cleaner. Also their facilities are a lot nicer.

Excellent place to stay

Posted Oct 9, 2013
Pros: The hotel itself, the staff, the food, the service - everything was first-rate
Cons: The Expedia.ca site did not disclose fully information about the room - not impressed with the site.
Location: Central location - within walking distance of most things - excellent grounds/park and geothermal pool nearby.
Was perfect for us - a great way to end our trip - excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Relaxing

very enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere great quests around from many parts of the world to chat with who were in love with the place for a long time. The restaurant was a 5 star quality with an evident team effort into all details. Great experience as we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary

The best hotel in Azores! Great Staff!

Posted Aug 6, 2013
Pros: Staff, Architecture, Park and Termal Pool.
Location: The island is fantastic and have plenty of sites to visit. Great for people who loves nature and the sea.
Had a wonderful experience with my family. The staff are very friendly and the hotel had a recent renovation and looks impressive. The park is divine as is the termal water pool outdoor.

Unique hotel which we enjoyed.

Great hotel, away from the coast but with a unique and wonderful atmosphere. Newly renovated but still a few things to sort out. The door to,our balcony was a problem as soon as we got to the room. For a complicated device there were no instrucctions. It kept sticking and when we inadvertently locked it we had to call reception to unlock it. They came promptly but refused to leave us the key. Considering how easy it is to lock the door (simply push the button while you are struggling to open it), it seemed petty for them not to have a key available for the guests. The shower was great, but absolutely nowhere to put a bar of soap or bottle of shampoo other than reaching round the screen to the vanity unit on the other side. Again, simple to sort out but a bit thoughtless to guests needs to omit. The tea at breakfast, grown on the island, was delicious.

Stunning setting

Posted Oct 9, 2012
Pros: The gardens and thermal bathing pool
Cons: Some staff were smoking in a back room
Location: Within the village and a good walk from the lake
Gardens and thermal baths were superb. Restaurant excellent. Hotel is about to be refurbished, we believe, but we enjoyed the 'Art Deco' style. Free internet in the 'business centre' was fast.
