“clarion --- not bad but beds are hard”

Booked the clarion old town because of its location --- being both in old town and close to where our daughter was living as a student. This is a no thrills hotel --- room was clean and service was good. Nice buffet breakfast included or a contienntal breakfast brought to the room for a nominal charge. Staff was very accomodating but there was one big problem -- the beds were harder than any beds that we ever slept on --- and I travel fequently. A lot of my nights were spent tossing and turning and days spent with a back ache.

Area recommendations

Prague is beautiful --- everywhere Great food and beer --- inexpensive, unpretencious

“Will use this hotel again”

The Hotel is located in the old town and in walking distance to almost anything that is worth to see in Prag. The rooms are nice and clean and you can still get a smoking room. There are many good restaurants and bars in the area.

“Great views”

Clean and close to public transportation. Very good restaurant in front of the tram stop and also a 24 hour shop. The location made it easy to get from the airport to hotel by public transpiration without having to drag our suitcases all over the city. Easy walk to the main square and all over the city.

“Prague all-around great hotel”

It has all I need in a hotel - clean, comfortable room, good location, helpful staff, complete breakfast, and even has wired internet connection in room. Mini-bar with reasonable prices, as well. Good shower, good room size, flat panel TV, and even a full restaurant on-site (didn't eat there, though, except for breakfast, which was included in room rate). A bit too far from train station to walk with luggage, though. And beware of blatant over-charging by taxis!

“Disappointed”

I asked for a non smoking room, and I got the confirmation via email for it. But I got a smoking room, an ashtray is on the table, and the previous guests of sure did smoke, because you could smell the smoke. There are black spots on the carpet (probably due to ash). Furthermore, my room was above the entrance on the first floor, where everybody went out for smoking. So when I had my window open, the smoke came in. The person who assigned the room to me did not thinking at all and did not respect my needs. So I was really disappointed. The standard of the hotel is low, for me it is not a four star hotel. The matress also has black spots, which you can see trough the white blanket, but I did not dare to the the blanket away and look after it. Who knows what more I would have seen there. You can hear the trams early in the morning, so if you want to relax, this hotel is not a good hotel. I have chosen this hotel because of the raiting, but since I am so disappointed, if i come back to Prague, I will not return to this hotel.

“Clarion Old Town”

The hotel is in a great location next to the rivier. It puts you in walking distance of historic Old Town, Prague Castle, the Metro and the river cruise boats. There's also a mall close by typical of must modern cities. During one of my many walks, I also found a hospital two blocks away next to the river. There's a restaurant/bar downstairs with great seating inside or outside to watch passing foot/vehicle traffic. Did I mention Iternet coverage (wifi and wired) throughout the property. A small market is nearby for those few essentials and late night snacks. Great nighlife withing two blocks. I would modify the breakfast buffet a bit but most seemed content.

The Old Town area has everything you need.

Getting around

Get a metro day pass for traveling around the city. After you walk whereever, you maynot want to walk back. You can get them at the Metro station or most small markets.

Must see

Cathedral at Prague Castle, Astronomical Clock in Old Town, the underground bunker, old synagogue.

Dining

Take the jazz dinner river cruise. If you just need to get you Chinese food fix, there's a great restaurant within two blocks near the tram stop.

Nightlife

Night life is throughout Prague but I'd recommend Vanity Bar at Dlouha 48 or De Ja Vu at Jakubská 6.

“Great location and comfortable room”

Convenient location to public transportation and to the old town sites. Nice breakfast with a couple of cooked options and a continental buffet. Quiet area and many nice restaurants within 10 minutes walk.

“value for money”

this hotel is very well located 1 minute to bus stop,10 min. to metro station in a safe area.river walk 3 minutes away, very helpful staff,very clean room, we were given fresh towels every day even though we had hung up the wet ones also the breakfast was fantastic, juices coffee teas cereal breeads eggs bacon sausages potatoes cold meats fruit, truly one of the best values for dollar ever.

the old town was very convenient to the clarion hotel where we stayed, we could walk most everywhere, for trips farther afield public transport was exellant $6 can. bought 24 hr. pass on tram metro and bus. staying close to the castle would be ok as there are many inexpensive restaurants in the area. the downside is its very hilly.

“Convenient hotel in good location”

The weather was unexpectedly cold (almost 0 degrees during the night), and there was automatic cooling in the room. Thomas helped us a lot by bringing us a heater :). The next day the automatic cooling was stopped. It took the service people three days to fix (replace the batteries) the safe in our room. Only the bathroom, not the entire room, was cleaned every day. The transportation to the airport was pretty expensive (700 czk), so we used (at night !!) the very convenient public transportation. The hotel is a short walking distance from most of the main attractions, and close to the convenient public transportation. Overall, very nice, clean, and convenient hotel, with good breakfast.

“Great value”

Great location within walking distance of a Metro Station and the Old Town attractions. Quite area near the river on the edge of Old Town. I walked to most of the sights except Charles Castle where I took the tram. The breakfast buffet was good and the service was excellent. The front desk was very helpful with directions and request. The free internet was fast. The cable only had a couple English speaking channels but I wasn't there to watch TV. The hotel was maintained well and the rooms were clean.
