“Great hotel & service - shop for value though”
When I was looking for a hotel nearby my son's college in Providence I didn't want to have to pay a huge amount of money, yet wanted a comfortable place to stay. After some research I found Johnson/Wales. Mind you I didn't realize it was staffed by mostly students from Johnson/Wales University (except for the housecleaning, etc). The staff made special efforts to pick me up at the airport when my plane was late. The room was clean & well cared for and included a fridge for keeping some leftover food. The continental breakfast included hot eggs, pastries, cereals, fresh fruits & juices, and a great atmosphere for dining. The staff was incredibly helpful in getting me to the places I needed to go quickly & efficiently. They helped me find places nearby for sightseeing & suggestions on places to eat. You wouldn't know this was run by students, since it was so well done. I've stayed at Hiltons, Hyatts, W's, & the like and this staff was just as helpful at a fraction of the price. Be sure to shop for a better price, if you can, but this is a great hotel at a great value. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone!
“Good place to stay”
Even though the location is not great, it is a great place to stay. Nice and clean!
“Leaves a lot to be desired.”
This facility has great possibilities but the implementation seems to be one of cutting costs and lack of care for the guest. The wallpaper was peeling off the room walls, the exterior was not maintained well. Many areas rusting and in need of paint. The front desk and restaurant staff were wonderful and very friendly. The continental breakfast is included but three days in a row the food trays were almost empty. Fruit that was left had been out for hours and was browning. Coffee was horrible. Many guests were complaining. Room service one evening was late, cold and spilled on the tray. The food was bland. tasteless and low volume. For what it cost this was ridiculous. This should be the best part of this hotels experience. Again, disappointing. This is a teaching facility for a supposedly very good culinary school. If this is what they teach their students, I would NEVER recommend any college age person attend. This should be one of the best hotels in the area with these aspirations. Hotel rates were very good if this was a 3 or 4 star hotel but I would consider it closer to a 2 star in quality. Don't bother going here unless you are looking only for low quality and low price. I have stayed here several times and been disappointed each time. Such great opportunities for success and teaching. What a shame!
“DO NOT BUY THE DELUXE PACKAGE”
When you buy the deluxe package, you're paying more money for services that are already included in the standard package.
“Excellent restaurant!”
The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, comfortable, and large, and the breakfast was AMAZING!
“Good if you are just looking for a place to sleep. Nice staff and clean.”
Hotel was old but it was clean. It was easy to access attractions from the area but nothing within walking distance. In an area that had necessities such as grocery stores, gas stations, and restaurants. The staff was nice and the bathroom newly rennovated.
“Would definately stay there again”
We thought the hotel was very nice.Very close to a lot of shopping and area attractions. The one thing we wished it had was a pool.We were staying there while our child attended the career exploration weekend at Johnson & Wales University.Overall it was a very enjoyable stay.
“Comfortable hotel for business travel”
Room was confortable and well appointed. Hotel is older but in good repair. Cont breakfast selection could have been larger but was adequate.
“Would definitely stay again”
I booked the hotel online not knowing exactly what to expect. I had read the hotel reviews prior to booking the Johnson & Whales and the reviews were all good. So, I booked the hotel based on that, the location, and the price. My husband and I weren't disappointed at all. The hotel was very neat and lean (always my #1 priority), peaceful, easy to get to, the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was a treat. On this trip my husband and I were traveling to New Haven, CT and Newport, RI, so the hotel was a good location for us and fairly close to the Providence airport. A terriffic value for the money. I commend the hotel staff as well, they were very friendly and helpful. I especially give kudos to the cleaning staff, as we came back to our room each day the room was spotless. If I'm back in the area again I would definitely stay at the hotel again and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
“Great value”
Could be a 4 stars hotel if bathroom was updated. Clean, spacious, modern, and great breakfast.
