Convenient for visiting Brown University.

Posted Jul 23, 2015
Location: Visit Brown University. Visit Providence.
Nice hotel; well furnished room; nice toiletries and towels. Sad to arrive at 11 p.m. and have no room service available after a long drive - had to leave to get a bite to eat. Many clubs nearby. Great bakery Ellie's for breakfast very close by. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

Comfortable, clean and centrally located

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Location: The RISD museum is a must-see.
Walking into the crisp cool room was a pleasant relief from the heat outside. Everything from the linens to the bath tiles looked and felt new. The location was convenient and the staff hospitable. The Hotel Providence was a nice change from the huge impersonal megalithic hotels. I would definitely stay there again.

Pros: EVERYTHING!!
Cons: Not a thing.
Location: We were there for the River fire event. WONDERFUL!!
We had many problems as we are elderly, and had a wheel chair, walker and walking problems and the staff took care of them all- we used room service (wonderful)-- secured a large taxi, for us all. A five star hotel.

Nice hotel; questionable area of town

Posted Jul 12, 2015
Pros: Clean, sharp-looking.
Cons: Parking and amenities. If there were any we did not know about them.
Location: Area seemed rather seedy if you went left outside of the hotel.
There is no parking and you have to pay $28 for valet parking which was not disclosed at the time of booking. No complimentary coffee upon arriving; you could use the Kurig in your room. Yuck. Staff told us nothing about the hotel or amenities but did give us a map of the shopping area. It was noisy in the alleyway outside our room all night. The room was beautiful and clean but small.

Pros: The staff at the front desk were helpful.
My room was located right next to a ventilation shaft, which kept making loud noise until late night and then start again in the early morning. This was bearable. What I found distasteful was that they charge "incidentals" as you check in, which is $100 per night. I asked about this strange charge on my credit card the day I checked in, and the front desk staff told us they will refund the amount after the guest checks out if no "incidentals" were found. The hotel somehow refunded 36 dollars less than the amount they charged. I broke a glass in the bathroom sink, which was cleaned out myself, and reported to a housekeeping staff; I seriously doubt the glass was worth more than 2-3 dollars. They could charge me for the glass, for the right amount that is, but the "incidentals" feel like this hotel treats their guests as potential damager--which turned out to be subconsciously effective in my case.

First a great room, then one a disappointment

Posted Jun 28, 2015
Pros: Clean. Friendly staff. Well situated for RISD.
Cons: As discussed, suites are a ripoff.
My wife stayed here before and got a great room, very comfortable. This time, they gave us a "suite," which cost more and the room was comfortable and felt cramped. The suite part was wasted space and the bedroom could have used the additional SF wasted on the sitting room. We also got to hear the garbage truck in the early morning hours.

Quiet room downtown Providence

Posted Jun 20, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff and very clean and quiet.
Cons: It would appear that in the near future this hotel will need an inside face lift. The lobby, hallways, rooms (furniture) & elevator. It is clean thoug
Location: The hotel is nearby to many restaurants, clubs, bars. You can walk or bike around the downtown common and along the river.
We had a smooth check in. On the way to the room you could tell the hotel was old but was clean and no offensive odors. Super clean room, spacious and with ample amenities. Before we went out we had a small meal from room service and it was excellent. Despite being downtown the room was very quiet. Had a great nigh sleep on an extremely comfortable mattress. If you plan on having room service breakfast, I recommend that you fill out the card they leave in your room to avoid waiting over an hour ( actually hour and a half ) like we had to. Overall I would recommend the Hotel Providence.
