“superb location and great service”
this small boutique hotel is in an excellent location in old town san juan, close to the downtown cruiseship piers (walking distance actually). the lobby is impressive and the rooms are well appointed, including the modern bathrooms. the cost was very competitive with other hotels in old town san juan. the only complaint was a defective air conditioner situation on the first night. it was sunday, so could not be fixed until monday, but the staff did its best to make the situation tolerable until the system was fixed. definitely recommend this small hotel to anyone looking for a convenient location in old san juan. also try the puerto rican speciality restaurant raices three doors down and if inthe mood for more adventurous dining, the istanbul turkish restaurant almost next door.
“"Hotel's own self praise is no recommendation"”
A great location in San Juan that the owners fail to exploit. A disappointing experience over two nights. Antiquated and ineffective plumbing that leaves one a choice of cold or barely lukewarm water, filthy carpets and indifferent hygiene, and a generally poor service ethic. One gets the sense the guest is being done a favour simply by being allowed to cross the threshold. And the price for such mediocre service and accommodation is way over the top. We insisted on being transferred from the first room allocated as it was simply untenable, with complete lack of hot running water. The hotel boasts "The Cervantes boutique hotel is for sophisticated travelers that appreciate the fine art of hospitality". It is nothing of the sort. And this claim that the hotel "is now recommended by Conde Nast Johansens" is a complete fabrication. There is not the slightest mention by Johansens. The tragedy of such mediocrity is that it could be so different with not too much effort - rigorous attention to detail and good hygiene and cleanliness, proper staff motivation and training, recognition that great location equals great business opportunity, and above all good management. This is a terrific location though for those that wish to imbibe the Old San Juan experience.
“Good but not Great”
The room size was extremely small, more like a studio than an actual full-size hotel room and expensive for what it was. This hotel is bordered by an alley on each side and extremely noisy. The balcony and front doors in our room are unsealed along the bottom and exterior noise leaks in like a sponge. All night long I heard every conversation taking place six floors below me. You can't control your own air conditioning. You need to contact the desk and have them change the temperature for you. After several requests my room was still freezing. I finally had to open the balcony door and let in warm air to remedy the problem. The hotel staff are very helpful and quite friendly. Our room was very clean. This feels like a brand new hotel that's still working out the bugs. Will pick an established chain next time around.
“Great place”
Wonderful place to stay,great people!
“Can't wait to go back”
Everyone was extremely friendly and very helpful. The rooms were beautifully decorated and spacious. We would definitely recommend it to friends and family and can't wait to stay here again. Location is fantastic right in Old San Juan, walking distance to everything and across the street of Carnival Cruise Ship Dock. The front desk attendants were incredible they assisted us in getting taxi's to the airport and cruise terminals each time. They even allowed us to leave our luggage at the hotel so we can walk around Old San Juan and not have to take it with us.
“Great Hotel”
I am a strong believer in customer service and I can't say enough as to how considerate and accommodating the young staff were at The Cervantes Hotel. The room was small but very clean with beautiful amenities, especially the bathroom. Very modern and in good taste, not your typical hotel room. However I'm still trying to figure out the low placement of the rod in the closet. The only negative i have to say is the noise from outside. But I guess that's what you get for being in a great location!
“A hidden gem in the heart of Old San Juan”
The staff at the Cervantes were welcoming and the accommodations were clean and beautiful. This boutique hotel was a real find in the heart of Old San Juan. We were warned about noise drifting up from the street keeping us awake but it was a complete non issue. I would definitely rebook at the Cervantes on a future visit to Puerto Rico. However if you are looking for a full complement of amenities (i.e. restaurant, pool, exercise room) this may not be the hotel for you.
“Excellent hotel once the hot water in the shower is repaired - would still stay again”
This is a wonderful boutique hotel in an excellent location. We stayed in a beautiful suite, but… there was no hot water in the shower. The gentleman at the front desk came up to make sure we were turning the shower on correctly, but he could not get hot water either. We were told maintenance does not work on the weekend (which is when we stayed), so nothing could be done. So if they fix the hot water problem, this hotel is great!
“Will definitely be back!”
We were extremely pleased with the look of the 12 room Inn. Our room was lavish...marble bathroom, bath robes, flat screen TV, fine linens, and a our own balcony. We slept well, and a small continental breakfast was included. The area around the hotel is safe, and right next to Raices Restaurant and Al Dente Italian Restaurant that get rave reviews. And it is a short 8 blocks to El Morro Fort. We will DEFINITELY be back. We loved the service Cevantes Hotel provided, and the friendly, calm atmosphere. Raul, Rikki, and Roberto took great care of us, and we are sorry our stay was so short because we really did enjoy our stay there.
“Nice hotel but ..”
It was a nice hotel and the staff was friendly. However, the smell in the hall was kind of funny and it permeated into the room throughout the night.
