“Excellent location and great experience in Ponce. PR”

Excellent service, very nice people and great facilities. The room was perfect, great ocean and pool view. It was a great experience.

“Do not let them put you in a 2nd flr room (pool level)”

Hotel has a casino which is convenient if you only wish to play for a half hour before bed. Pool is decent. Breakfast at the hotel is not worth the money. Most importantly, do not let them put you in a room on the 2nd Flr (pool level). I cannot speak for all rooms on that level, but my room had a creature problem. I would wake up and there would be centipedes crawling on the carpet. I would come back to the room at night and be greeted by more centipedes. There were spiders lined up behind the curtain. Small red creatures were crawling all over the bath basin. On my second day there, I woke up to a cricket looking at me. When I tried to kill it, the cricket hopped away, never to be seen again. Worse of all, was a creature about two or three inches long that I could not identify, because the lighting is not the best. All the lights need to be turned on to get a good look. By the time I got to the second lamp, it ran off, hiding behind the baseboard. This was on a Wednesday and the little devil made one last appearance on Friday before scurrying off behind the baseboard. Be warned. Creature and cricket still live. Brought the issue up with front desk. They did not offer to move me to an upper floor. Instead, was told that bug activity was not uncommon as the room was at ground level. I was told they would fumigate. I believe they only fumigated the balcony, which wasn't going to take care of the creatures already living inside.

Area recommendations

Ponce has a downtown area with museums, shopping (souvenirs, mostly) and a nice fountain with seating. Keep in mind, however, that certain places may not be open. I went in the second week of August, so not sure if the tourist season was slowing down. It is a good idea to call ahead so that you are not wasting time and energy that could be used elsewhere. As well, not every area of Ponce is decent. Most sections are run down and if you are traveling alone, I wouldn't recommend taking side trips.

Getting around

It is all about planning. Please keep in mind that Puerto Rico has several tourist spots located all over the island. Unfortunately, it takes two hours to get anywhere. A good tip is to choose a location and select different attractions in that area to see. It is next to impossible to see everything Puerto Rico has to offer in one week. A

“I will go back.”

Very nice hotel. My wife was impressed by the quality of the food in their restaurant. We had a good time at their casino. Very well located with a great view to the city and the Caribbean Sea. It was great to stay at their hotel.

Area recommendations

I recommend the Cruceta del Vigia. A very impressive view awaits you. Very easy to get even by using Google Maps in my phone. The trolley gives you a very nice trip around Ponce city. And don't forget La Guancha.

Their restaurant was very good. The food was excellent and their staff was very friendly and helpful.

“Raquel”

Holiday Inn Ponce & El Tropical Casino was a very pleasant stay. The hotel front desk staff was very pleasant, the room was very comfortable, clean and spacious, I had my two children with me. Our dining experience was also very good, breakfast on a Saturday morning was quite reasonable and the buffet offered a nice variety of hot food including fresh fruit and pastries. The swimming pool was very clean and I would definitely stay again at this property again.

“Surprisingly please with the Holiday Inn El Tropical Casino in Ponce”

Rooms are spacious, clean and well lit. You have panaoromic stunning views of the sea. Free parking, casino and wonderful hotel staff. Oh, you also get a nice size refridgerator in the room for use. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely return to this location and hotel again!

Area recommendations

Visit Plaza del Caribe, El Tuque, Caja de muertos! Lush history and pristine tropical areas. It's an area that is not overdeveloped and still maintains the old tropical beauty of what the old island used to be like with horses, fincas and tropical fruit trees. Always keep security in mine, since the roads are still bothered by highway robbers which is part of the long history of the island's pirate days!

“Not what I expected but worth it!”

The hotel itself was great the staff were really friendly and accomodating. Gave me an upgrade because I wasnt really satisfied with the 1st room. The pool was really, really great large, clean, warm, and it did not reak of chlorine. The casino was nice, larger than expected. They had a great laundry room 2 washers/2dryers $1.25 to wash $1.25 to dry. My daughter geniunely enjoyed the game room. Parking was plentiful and free! This hotel was a great pick!

“Hotel was nice the the room smelled like smoke. I had a belcony but the view was not very good.”

The Hotel was okay, the Casino was okay. The Front desk people were very nice and helpful. Would I recommend this hotel, maybe but and casino need to be changed since we spent alot of time there and money. The waitress need to be more helpful especially the desk in the casino. I could never find anyone to help me. I was there when there a celebrate and no one helped me to fill out a raffle ticket. More flyers are needed.

We traveled to Ponce and to Lares and to San Juan.

Getting around

We had a hard time going to the beach since it was a two day holiday and we did not know that. The People in PR are nice and helpful. But know you area since we ended up going trough a rough area and were scared. We used our GPS but had road blocks.
