Hotel El Convento, Old San Juan, PR

Posted Dec 14, 2014
Pros: See above
Cons: Replace the sliding glass door to the bathroom, as though beautiful to look at, not practical for when one needs to sleep: light & noise to slide it.
Location: Ben & Jerry's, Jamaican restaurant & others, sightseeing, bus to train to (pueblo) mall, parks, outlet stores, etc. We walked all over.
The staff at check in was extremely courteous; the guys that handle the luggage were very friendly and knowledgeable, as they were able to answer all my questions as to directions and the like. The hostess at the restaurant was not friendly to me; not sure why. The rooms were kept clean. A few days later we returned after our trip from the West Indies & the room was fabulous, with a small water fall in the sun room. We really liked it. One thing I did not care for was the glass door to the bathroom - a bit noisy at night. They came to fix it, but I'm a light sleeper & heard it anyway. Overall, great hotel, & very centrally located - down the street from a Ben & Jerry's. We enjoyed the evenings (6pm) wine tasting.

Lovely hotel

Posted Dec 2, 2014
Pros: The ambiance, the food, service and people who worked there were all very pleasant and accomodating
Cons: some areas were dated & needed a fresh coat of paint.. must attend to a daily clean-up of the mess left behind by the nightly visitors to the tree
Location: Great location in Old San Juan...great shops, places to eat and lots of history to the area at the forks
This is a lovely hotel in the heart of Old San Juan. The service was great....people very friendly and we had great meals there from the Tapas to the pizza, brunch on Thanksgiving and lunch on the patio. We stayed there over Thanksgiving and they were getting their Christmas decorations up which looked great. I love the history of the hotel, the pool and patio areas were all very nice. We were able to use the sister hotel for a day on the beach, a great pool and casino. My one suggestion is that for the most part the hotel was clean and looked great. I did see some areas that were dated, old, and needed a fresh coat of paint. Would also strongly suggest a good daily clean-up on the walls around the tree on the patio. The nightly visitors to the tree leave a mess which is not pleasant to look at.

True Old San Juan Experience

Posted Dec 1, 2014
Pros: The atmosphere, rooms and service are exceptional.
Cons: The main dining room is a bit of a disappointment. Food is overelaborate in its ambition and under-delivers. Service there is uneven.
Location: Everything in historic old San Juan is an easy walk.
El Convento provides a delightful experience in the heart of Old San Juan. Not a place for those looking for a cookie cutter beach resort. This hotel is a romantic and traditional urban experience. No car needed. Walk to everything. All day coffee lounge with terrace and manager's wine and cheese reception are delightful.

Great location

Posted Nov 28, 2014
Pros: The history and location.
Cons: Our air conditioning made a lot of noise and the vents were rusty. The toilet tank moved when using the toilet.
Location: There are a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. You can also walk to the fort, museum and gallery. The house used in Zorro is in the middle of town.
The hotel is located in a great location for walking around the town which has very good restaurants and shops. Traffic is terrible to get in and out to places such as the malls and other places. The wine and cheese evenings were good, wine could be better. Updating the rooms would lose the ambience of the old building but the rooms would certainly benefit from some maintenance. Overall a nice hotel in a good location.

A lovely hotel in the mists of old San Juan

Posted Nov 27, 2014
Pros: It was clean and had nice thick plush towels
Cons: Our neighbors came in late at night and were inconsiderate about the noise they created.
Location: All the sites in old San Juan were within walking distance as were great places to eat.
Hotel El Convento was a great place to stay. The staff was very helpful and kind. The room was large and very clean. The fan and air conditioner kept the room at a good temperature. It was lovely to have the bed turned down with a chocolate and classical music waiting for us at the end of the day.

Amazing!

This is the best place when visiting Viejo San Juan. We enjoyed the quiet pocket just a few blocks away from everything old San Juan had to offer. Everything at the hotel was perfect and definitely the place to go for peace and quiet. We enjoyed te cheese and wine reception they offered every day at 6pm.
