Pros: Everything. Staff is excellent, many shops, restaurants, bars close by.
Cons: All small maintenance things to be expected in a five century old building. Absolutely nothing to detract from the experience though
Location: Plenty of restaurants, shops, bars nearby, within easy walking distance.
Hotel shows its age in some facets, but considering it was built in the 1500s, it has aged very gracefully. Hotel staff is more than accommodating, location is excellent and is a very nice place to relax after a long day of tromping around the rain forest, hiking to the top of Aricebo or just going to a nearby beach. This is the only place my wife and I stay when on the north side of the island, five times over 11 years so far.

Beautiful historic hotel

Posted Jul 20, 2015
Pros: The style of the hotel & the rooms, turn-down service, fruit & beverage room, wine & cheese hour.
Location: Great location. Walking distance to restaurants, the cathedral, El Morro, San Juan Gate and the paseos.
The best hotel stay we have ever experienced. From the amazing services (evening turn-down service, fresh fruit & beverages all day, wine & cheese hour for guests) to the Spanish style of the room & furniture, the location in old San Juan, the view of the plaza from our window...we loved it all. If we ever find ourselves in old San Juan again, we will most definitely return to El Convento.

Prime location in Old Town San Juan.

Location: Excellent location right in the center of Old San Juan. Lots of amazing restaurants and shops in the area all within a few minutes walking distance.
Beautiful and charming hotel with great ambience. You really felt like you were back in time. The tapas and wine reception was a great added feature. I will definitely be going back.

Charming

Pros: Location, service, history and ambiance are great. Free water and fruit available 24/7 We enjoyed the free wine & cheese hour at 6PM
Cons: Rooms have only Queen size beds. Upgrade to King only possible if you rent a suite for more than double the regular room rate.
Location: Best location to enjoy Old San Juan and its history. Great location for siteseeing, shopping (mainly souvenirs and jewelries), bars and restaurants.
Perfect spot for a few days in Old San Juan if you love the city's history and site seeing of original houses, streets, forts and churches. Hotel and rooms are in excellent shape, considering the age. Photo opportunities everywhere. We arrived at 1:30 AM and front desk manager was very attentive. Brochure of the hotel very informative about building and renovations. Late breakfasts on the patio were excellent. Especially the service of Tony made our F&B experiences wonderful. We have been in Puerto Rico 5 times over the past years and never had such a tremendous waiter. Walks nearby are filled with history (churches, walls, forts, ...) Hotel seems popular for weddings. They organize every day a 'happy hour' with wines, fruits and cheeses. Would recommend this hotel to anyone for a romantic getaway. It is not for families with small kids or for those looking for beaches or casinos. Only downside was that they do not have Kingsize beds in regular rooms. We were offered an upgrade for a suite at more than double the price.
