Good location, worn down hotel.

The staff is friendly and accommodating but the hotel needs major renovation. It's ok for one night but the price is too steep.

Friendly hotel in midst of Old San Juan

Posted Mar 10, 2015
Pros: Location to Old San Juan and great restaurant and most Staff terrific and helpful.
Cons: Fix key card system?, new batteries in TV remotes (do I need 2?), some minor repairs in general.
Location: Location to Old San Juan and Barrachina Restaurant where you should try the red snapper.
Location is great for visiting Old San Juan. Manager is excellent in providing information and suggestions, even getting us last minute reservations for dinner for a group of 8, arranging transport to cruise port. As others have said, their elevator is very slow. Key card didn't work at first, the courtyard funnels sound to other floors, TV remote didn't work, but it was a temporary stay before our cruise, and to reiterate, Location and most Staff terrific and helpful.

Proximity to fun.

Bottom line...it is a great location in old San Juan. Walking distance to great bars, restaurants, cigar bars, art galleries, El Morro. Don't need a car at all in this location....location alone sells staying here. Rooms were acceptable.

Location

Posted Mar 4, 2015
Great location for a cruise ship overnight...unless your on Royal Caribbean as they dock across the bay and will require another overpriced taxi ride. Hotel is basic but, a little wore out but I've stayed in worse. Seemed clean just needs paint and touch up. Bath needs updating to bring it out of 1970 motel 6 status but it's functional. Big area for cruise bag storage but not secure as anybody could walk in and take a bag but it seemed to work. If you want luxury stay at the Sheraton but that's wasted money you could use to pay the cruise ship bar tab.

good location but not for a long stay

Posted Mar 1, 2015
The location is great, but the rooms are not inviting and certainly do not welcome you home after a long day of touring. Lots of cruise people stay for one night and often engage in loud conversations next to the rooms. The hotel is good for a short stay, but not for anything beyond a few days.

Fixer-upper in a good location

Posted Feb 26, 2015
Pros: Friendly front desk staff and owner Good location Free wifi
Cons: Repair and redesign common areas and guest rooms
Location: It is situated a walk away from everything in Old San Juan.
We just stayed one night and were greeted by the friendly staff at the front desk. They helped us with directions and plan for the day and made reservations at a local restaurant for us for dinner. What was very disappointing was the state of the facility. The room has so much potential to be put on one those hotel makeover shows. They have the space but everything needs to be gutted and redesigned. The walls, ceiling, flooring, decor, balcony, windows...everything needs to be updated. The roof leaked and water was collected in a bucket

Heart of Old San Juan

Very clean and quiet hotel conveniently located in Old San Juan. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and although the parking lot was a few blocks away it was affordable.

Vintage Old San Juan Hotel

Posted Feb 8, 2015
Pros: The location is what we love the best. The square in front of the town hall is very enchanting. We love being in Old San Juan.
Cons: Bathroom renovations would be nice!
Location: Easy access to shops, restaurants, bars, the forts, children's museum and the cathedral.
This is our 3rd time at this hotel. It is definitely vintage, nothing like today's modern motels/hotels that Americans are used to staying in. The furniture looks like the 40's, tile floors, no windows in majority of rooms. Bathrooms are bare bones but functional. We stay 1 or 2 nights before a cruise and love being within walking distance to all of the venues in Old San Juan. The streets at night are especially beautiful. One can walk along the old fort wall, waves crashing below, with the street lamps illuminating the historic streets and stucco homes. The square is especially magical from December to the St Sebastian Celebration mid January. There are other lodgings available in the area for 2 or 3 times the price but we prefer to cut corners a bit, splurge on restaurants, and soak in the local color. We went on a family cruise in November and had are kids & their families with us. I told them I hoped they didn't think I lost my mind booking this hotel but they understood once we got there and totally embraced the experience.
