Guatemala City, the national capital, is located 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Puerto San Jose, while Lake Atitlan is 60 miles (97 kilometers) to the northwest.
The area around Puerto San Jose is filled with villages, towns and cities, each blessed with its own special personality. Places within a relatively short distance of Puerto San Jose are Las Pozas, 35 miles (56 kilometers) to the southwest, and Alotenango, 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the south.
Around 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the north of Puerto San Jose is Antigua Guatemala, an important regional center and the home of Antigua Guatemala Cathedral, Acatenango and Antigua Guatemala Colonial Art Museum. La Merced Church, Antigua Guatemala Central Park and Parque Central are also good places to head to.
Impress the people who live in Escuintla, by speaking Spanish. "¿Querría bailar conmigo?" is the Spanish way to say "Would you like to dance with me?" And "Este caballero pagará por todo", which means "This gentleman will pay for everything"
Those spending time in Escuintla or in other parts of Guatemala on the 15th of September, can enjoy national Independence Day events and celebrations.
At the end of your adventure in Puerto San Jose, use the last of your quetzals on last minute keepsakes and bid a fond Adiós (farewell).
