It was okPosted Mar 4, 2014
Pros: For the most part, the staff tried to be as good as they could be. The rooms are big. They have glass cups and staws. Good selection of alcohol.
Cons: The buffet was ok, the food was hit or miss. Really cold sometimes. If they had a person to monitor the buffet, this would solve the problem.
Location: Lots to do and it's a good location for some activities. Bring bug spray. Outside hotel is bus stop to downtown.
The rooms are nice on the surface level. There was paint chips falling from celing in shower. The entertainment shows are pretty bad. There is a "local" weekend special or something where there is a bunch of people from mex come and vacation. Let's just say that there are huge differences between U.S. Citizens, Canadian Citizens, and Mexican Citizens. While U.S A and Canaidian Citizens are similar as it pertains to manners. Mexican Citizens do not have the same manner structure. For instance, simple things like using a elevater or standing in line for something. Also, their children were so wild, it was almost comical. Even the security guards had a hard time to get them to stop acting wild. This is ok because we are after all in Mexico. But just beware and be patient. I don't believe they are being rude, just cultural differences. So when you are on a elevator and the door opens to get off and people just rush on without letting you off, don't get mad. Or when you are in line for the elevator or buffet and someone walks in front of you like you don't exist, don't get mad. Just laugh at our cultural differences and enjoy your vacation. The Mosquitos are out of control. I don't care if I'm in the jungle or by the water. There is nothing ok about the Mosquitos problem. There are just too many Mosquitos. I would not go back just on that. Tips to avoid the problem. Do not go out too early in the morning or stay out when the sun goes down. Stay away from beach.

I will go backPosted Feb 28, 2014
Pros: The view of the mountains and its own small beach. It was like staying in your own small fishing village.
Cons: The staff at the front desk and even the concierge struggled with English.
Location: Didn't care about things to do nearby, there was enough to keep you busy with the options at the hotel.
I loved being away from the rat race of down town PV. The little extra drive from the airport was well worth it . Many of the people I spoke with had been more than once and had tried other hotels in the area. It bodes well when people have been back 4 or 5 times. The lack of humidity you get on the gulf side was a welcome relief with cool evenings.

Pleasantly Surprised!Posted Feb 27, 2014
Pros: Location, large spacious rooms, great food.
Cons: New matteresses....beds were very hard!
Location: Liked the location on south side of PV. Lots of lush green jungle and away from downtown area, which we liked.
Really liked this resort. Upgraded to a Master Suite upon arrival and had a room with a great ocean view. Request Tower 2 if possible as we liked it much better than the Master Suite our friends had in Tower 1. Tower 2 is much quieter with better view. We were very pleased with the food at all restaurants, even the buffet! Had premium liquor, just remember to ask for specific brands when ordering and they will accomodate. Staff was very friendly. Spent most our time on the beach instead of the pool. Ocean water was nice and clear. Only one complaint.....beds were hard!

Daughters Wedding TripPosted Feb 26, 2014
Puerto Vallerta, Mexico is a beautiful country. Barceló just added to the beauty of the stay, the service is excellent, the people are very kind. The food is spectacular, they have a lot to do if you like, or just stay in your room and relax. There were some items in the room that should have been updated and or fixed, the elevators were not all working and it was difficult getting down when you wanted. The hotel needs more handicap accessibility, they need more railing all around the grounds, which by the way were very well kept and gorgeous. I would go back to vacation again as soon as I could!!!

Nice hotel far from downtownPosted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: I liked that it was far away from downtown, because it was very nice and felt safe, but it was expensive to get into town.
Cons: Options for checkout, being aware that it was an older population and not so much a college party location (we went on spring break)
Location: We booked activities with Vallarta adventures and it was amazing. well worth the money!!
The hotel was very nice, good food and staff. They had activities almost every night and played very loud music until 1030-11 every night. This wasn't great as we planned activities and had to be up at 7. When we went to checkout they tried to charge us another $40 each for 4 hours to wait for our transportation. We refused to pay and they allowed us to keep our bracelet until 230, but we went back at 4. We would have had to sit in the lobby until 4. That was the only issue we had.

Lovely Resort in Puerto VallartaPosted Feb 19, 2014
Pros: Great rooms and food!
Cons: Nightly entertainment should be outside, not crammed inside of a conference room!
Location: Half an hour ride from the airport and downtown Puerto Vallarta. Not as accessible to town as I'd like for such a small resort.
Great rooms at the Barcelo, no need to upgrade to the premium package. The resort was quite a bit smaller than I'm used to which was great for accessability to all the amenities but not as much privacy as I like. Food was great, I would suggest booking a la carte restaurants upon arrival to ensure availability. The beach was very small and full of Mexicans trying to sell you their goods. I definitely preferred the pool although with all the trees on the property its difficult to find the sun (especially in the afternoon). All in all a nice resort to visit in Puerto Vallarta. I won't be going back but I would suggest it to friends and family travelling to PV.

Would never stay again, poor management.Posted Feb 18, 2014
The food was average at best. The views were pretty, the pool and facilities were clean. The majority of the staff worked hard and was pleasant. Our room was extremely loud as it was above the bar. We couldn't sleep. We complained numerous times. We were not accommodated. The front desk staff is extremely rude. We were not moved to a quieter room until day five of our holiday. We were treated like an inconvenience. I will never stay here again. It does not live up to the barcelo reputation.
