“LGBT”
Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful authentic city with lovely beaches, wonderful dining, cobblestone streets, and awesome boardwalk / Malecon (restoration fall '11), nestled between the jungle and the Pacific. Highly recommended gay friendly city. This hotel is the "gay mecca" and located within walking to the majority of the city; no need for car rental if you get around well, although hilly terrain in this part of town. Blue Chairs hotel itself was a tad on the rundown side, but the location and reputation make it an ok choice if you want to stay in a hotel oriented to gay culture. Must do activities are zip lines, Malecon, River Cafe dinner, La Palapa breakfast / dinner at sunset on the beach. Last trip the beaches and water temperature were perfect; we'll keep coming back for its natural beauty and the care exhibited by the people living and working there.
“Fun was had by all”
Very unique country
“Loved my staff”
Enjoyed the staff very much They were just alot of fun
“Vacation of a life time!”
This hotel was fantastic. It is not a five star hotel, but so much like being at home. The staff has got to be the best in the world. If they did not have what you wanted, they would go get it for you out in town. Clean clean clean, housekeeping has this place spotless. You are right on the beach, which is the best beach in Puerto Vallarta. We will be back for sure, no question about that. I don't think anyone could go wrong with this hotel. It is located in oldtown of Puerto Vallarta, which to me is what you go to Mexico for. If the hotel staff gets to read this, I want to say thank you all so much for a wonderful vacation.
“Service Needs to Improve”
The location of the hotel has no equal. However, the airconditioning unit became frozen and it started leaking. We asked to be moved. We had one night remanining and did not want to have to pack everything just to move to another room for one night. There were only 6 or seven other rooms occupied. We asked that we be allowed to leave our stuff in that room and just move the essentials to the new room. Management and the owners (who happened to be there) refused. We would be occupying two rooms, therefore we had to pay for two rooms. Nevermind that we had nothing to do with the airconditioning unit's malfunction AND that the hotel was virtually empty!!! We thought of leaving and asked for a refund of the last night. That was denied also. We did not want to inconvenience ourselves further. We just moved to a differnt room. Also, the service from the waiters needs to improve. I have to give props to three receptionists: Eduardo, Boris, and very particularly Andres, very nice guy; and to Alberto, one of the bar's waiters. Alberto was a bit unattentive one night, but the following night he apologized and he was the best waiter from then on. Everybody else, from the owners on down, need a few courses on customer service as far as I am concerned.
“Run down and noisy with poor service”
I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. The hotel located right on the beach, which makes it attractive, however the room is tiny with NO fridge or hairdryer and lack of shelving in the bathroom. The furniture seems like 100 years old. Right when I walked into my room, I saw an envelope FOR TIPS for housekeeper Ramona, which is a little annoying. Ceiling fan was scaring to use thinking it will fall and chop you. I stayed on the 5th floor and there is a party every night till 11-12 on the roof-top, which is the 6th floor, so it was extremely noisy and irritating when the staff was moving chairs, scratching the floor, after they close. So, do not stay on the 5th floor if you like to go to bed early. Also, my request for the wake-up call was ignored once, so, don't rely on than and use your cell for the alarm. The hotel charges 200 pesos if you want to bring a guest into your room, for 3 hours and 400 pesos if you want your guest to stay overnight, however if you wish, you could add him as a guest to your room to avoid those unreasonable charges, but front desk personal didn't offer me that option in the first place, so I had to pay 400 pesos extra. The restaurant staff are hungry for tips and don't even hesitate to tell you to leave them tips, even if you are not done eating or paying the bill. The concierge,JEFF, in this hotel is super nice, helpful and knowledgeable. So, the only plus of this hotel is a beach location and walking distance to the gay zone area.
“May not be the best, but lots of fun!”
My room was clean and comfortable. Not a lot of furniture( no dresser, no place to sit), but a comfy bed and a good flat screen. The staff was very freindly and helpful. I did have to call down for towels one day but once I tiped the maid I never had another ploblem. But the best thing about this hotel is the location. With it's own cafe on the beach you can charge everything to your room and need not take any money with you while sunning and swimming. The roof top bar is great fun and you can start your evening as soon as 5pm. I have stayed here twice and am planning a third stay soon!
“Remodeled - not so much!”
I wish they would've mentioned it was still under construction. In fact, if you went to the new pool on the roof you had to hear construction on the new elevator(which is desperately needed). The drain had a major stench that didn't go away. We changed rms but then finally gave up. I didn't expect too much from this property and that was a good thing. It's in a great location with fantastic views. Just be cautious to check your bill at the beach they tried twice to over charge us.
“Needs Improvement”
Our suite was spacious and had a nice ocean view. The staff was helpful and friendly. It was very noisy from 8AM - 5PM due to construction of a new elevator to the bar, and from 5PM - 10:30PM because of the bar itself. The pool is tiny and dirty. The floor in our suite was always swept but always dirty. You have to turn the hot water on in the shower several minutes before showering because it takes so long for the hot water to reach the room. The elevator is slow and sometimes the light goes out, it stops, and the door won't open. The "balcony" reserved turned out to be a narrow walkway in front of the suite with 3 chairs and a table, which anyone could and did use. One day water leaked from the ceiling into the kitchen/living room area. The exterior door had a large glass area, with no curtain or other covering available to provide privacy. The suite had a very nice, comfortable, and very long "L" shaped built in couch. The location is prime, and the beach service wonderful, but you don't have to stay there to use the beach service. I won't stay at Blue Chairs again.
“It's OK For A Few Nights”
Great location, friendly staff that tried hard to address issues, went through 3 rooms during stay. One was right below the bar / disco upstairs and was just too noisy; second one had a very bad odor in the bathroom, third one was OK.
