We had our first trip to Grand Velas with our 2 year old daughter. The hotel was amazing and a great spot for families. It was a bit quiet when we were there as didnt know it was the end of rainy season, but made it even more relaxing.

We had a terrific experience at sunset plaza on our honeymoon. Everyone there was always ready to help and were all incredibly accommodating. Great service, great food and drinks. Nice quiet atmosphere, mostly adults. The room service is great too for all inclusive packages, can't wait to come back someday!

Spent a week during spring break with 3 children under 10 yo and it was perfect! We had a ocean view suite and it was amazing! Food was very good but there was not too much variety, but again, for us it was just right. Staff, what can I say? They are unbelievably pleasant and always attentive to our needs. Our special thanks to Ricardo, Samuel, Salvador, Carlos, Reyes, and of course, Israel from the restaurant. They were amazing and always had a smile in their face for us and our children. Would definitely recommend and absolutely going back.

Stayed for the second time at this family-friendly resort. We had an excellent time, as before.
Rooms are fine. Beds are comfortable, housekeeping got us additional pillows quickly. Great bathtub.
Staff is excellent and very happy to please (for the most part).
Bars - what can you say, unlimited alcohol, friendly to the kids, quick service.
Food. Buffet leaves a bit to be desired, probably the worst part of our stay. However, I found that by eating at the buffet in the a.m. (love the omelets), at the beach snack area for lunch (excellent burgers and fries), and making reservations for the better restaurants in the evenings, we had no complaints about the food. The French restaurant was definitely the best and the Italian was good also. The staff remembered us from one night to another and were very kind to all of us.
Swimming facilities were fine and the beach was very well kept. If you go during busier times, expect more crowds. This time of year it seemed that maybe 75% of the guests were natives from other parts of Mexico on vacation with their kids. Another part of the year, you may have spring break crowds. Give me the families any day!
If you expect quiet beach or pool time, go somewhere else. If you want a 5-star hotel, go somewhere else (and pay for it). This is a great, easy-going hotel experience for families who just need a break.
