great location - surely front desk gentlemen

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Pros: location pool staff
Cons: clean the mold out of the shower - be more responsive to customer requests - possibly train or re-assign the male desk clerk
Location: lots of everything - restaurants - beach - pool just a great location
We were sent to 3 garbage rooms by the desk attendant before I had to call Expedia to contact the manager. We were given a "standard" room rather than our requested "superior" room even though I had emailed the hotel in advance about our choice of rooms. It is too bad, I enjoy this hotel, its location etc. We have been staying at the hotel for the last 10 or better years. I hope our next experience will be better

I had an ocean view which made all the difference.

Posted Jan 23, 2015
Pros: my room was on the water. it was close to everything - and meant that I could do a lot of walking which I enjoyed.
Cons: Only ate there once (breakfast) but the quality of the food could have been better. my two brothers had issues with their rooms
It is an older hotel but is well maintained. My room was clean, the housekeeping staff were friendly and did their job well. I injured my leg and the head bell boy leant me his cane to use. We had breakfast at the hotel once and that was disappointing - so never ate there again.

My second time experience in this hotel

Posted Jan 20, 2015
Pros: First line on the beach and great view
Cons: customer service
Location: Very gay area, many gay stores and cafe
Great hotel right on the beach. Very nice view from the room. Each room has a balcony. Stayed at this hotel for the second time. All was good. A little strange policy regarding guests. You can not lead anyone to the hotel. The rooms are cleaned regularly and well. Excellent service waiters on the beach.

Great Hotel in Romantic Puerto Vallarta

Posted Dec 7, 2014
Pros: Great location and potential.
Cons: Construction should have been advised.
Location: Perfect location for Beach and diverse restaurant activities near centre of town.
Got a good 6th floor suite with kitchen looking over ocean. Service was excellent. However we discovered closed Beach bar due to reconstruction and dead low activity restaurant and very little staff enthusiasm plus low activity on Beach or around pools. The place seemed to be asleep except for the construction noise during the day. Definitely not what was promised, expected or advertised by Expedia. You should have let us know. We deserve a refund!

Nice hotel in convenient location

If you are looking for a nice hotel in the old part of Puerta Vallarta, Hotel Tropicana is a good choice. It is not a 5-star hotel, but has the basic amenities. There are no bathtubs, just showers in the rooms. I have stayed here several times. The hotel was undergoing renovations of the bar area near the pool, but it was not an interruption during my visit. If you are looking for a clean, no-frills hotel at a decent price, I would recommend this hotel.

Spacious hotel grounds fantastic pools

Posted Nov 19, 2014
I was pleasantly surprised with my visit. The hotel is very spread out with lots of areas to hang out. There are two large pools. I liked that one was only 4.5 feet deep across the entire pool. It is off the beach which is great except my experience on the beach was not pleasant because of all the vendors. It seemed to be a vendor every minute and I am not kidding. Selling mostly nonsense and they just don't stop. I did enjoy the vendor barbecuing marlin and shrimp very much. My room overlooked the beach. It was a superior room in the newer tower .All tile floors , very nice. No drawers in my room though so had cloths all over the place but no big deal with the great view. There were several things that didn't work at first but when I called staff was there in a few minutes and fixed it. The restaurant had nice food, inexpensive. A 3 ingredient egg omelet with potatoes and toast for about $6. There were no smoking signs all over the rest. but it was annoying that they did not stop a few couples from Germany from smoking. I complained a few times but nothing changed so I sat away from them after I spoke to one couple who, while coughing laughed at me. Guess the last one will be on them someday.
