Nice hotel and excellent staffPosted Mar 4, 2014
fantastic time. Hotel was a little shabby but did not detract from stay. I think think people are too picky, if they are upset about a few cracked or missing tiles, they should pay three times the cost and stay at the Hyatt. One thing that did bother me was they would not honor Melia Rewards if booked through Expedia. This is not stated in Melia Rewards, consequently, no points or free in room WiFi. One of the reasons we stayed there.

All-inclusive resort provides value, and waits.Posted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: Great to have an included breakfast each day, and easy for everyone - kids and adults - to get drinks and snacks when they wanted them.
Cons: Too much waiting in line for reservations and fixing demagnetized room keys. Air conditioning and hair dryers are in poor condition.
Location: Nice beach. Great pool area. Beach volleyball, kayaks, shuffleboard. Five minute walk to the marina for shopping, different restaurants and ice cream.
The Melia is an older property that is being improved. While there, I saw the stucco repainted, plants watered, people cleaning the common areas, etc. Several of the activities listed aren't functional and clearly haven't been for a while. This includes the batting cages, the trampoline - which is an eyesore being in disrepair right next to the pool and both hot tubs. The "hot tubs" are part of the pool and the temperature is no different. The pool water is cool to get into, but feels nice once you get moving. The pool needs to be re-tiled, but it's probably never a good time to shut it down for the work. While the restaurants are all-inclusive, you do have to make a reservation and that's not as easy as it sounds. They only offer reservations for the next day beginning at 4 p.m. the day before. Since I was never in the hotel at 4 p.m., getting a spot for a family of five was difficult. Kids aren't allowed in the Italian restaurant after 6:30, so we only ate in the Mexican restaurant and the buffet. Portions are small in the restaurants, but you are offered three courses - appetizer, entree and dessert. The buffets were surprisingly good with a lot of variety and a special theme each night. There were usually two stations going with made-to-order entrees such as sopitas or grilled fish or omelets at breakfast. Service was generally good in the restaurants. Drinks by the pool were fairly easy with swim-up/walk-up bars or waiter service. Nice touches in the rooms for kids.

Great place to go to with kidsPosted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: Loved the kids room option, food, pool and beach.
Cons: The rooms are clean, but looking a little old.
We stayed there for one week with our extended family and everyone loved it. The pool and beach are wonderful, the staff was very helpful and friendly and the food was amazing.

Good location and good for familiesPosted Jan 24, 2014
Pros: Service, down to Earth guests/staff(everyone was very polite), the amenities and activities, great beach, location
Cons: Rooms- beds were hard, pipes were loud, very outdated. Also, the pool was missing a ton of tiles. The entire hotel needs an overhaul. Not the Ritz.
Location: Very close to airport (5 min), walking distance to marina, only a $8 cab ride to downtown, tons of outdoor activities for all ages.
After doing some research, reading reviews, and pricing out a vacation, we chose the Melia. When we arrived, the hotel looked much much older than the photos posted. However, we did not let the age of the resort bring us down. -The staff was awesome- very polite and offered great service. -The activities are also great. It is a great place to bring children, families, etc. We are a mid-twenties couple, but many of the people there were young families with multi-generations. It was lovely to see tons of small children, teenagers, young and old couples, and retirees all having fun together by the pool. -For an all inclusive, the food and drinks are not terrible. Since the hotel is a 5 minute walk to the marina, there are tons of restaurants to choose from there if you need a break from the hotel. We noticed that the prices at the marina were far less expensive than going to downtown. -The hotel is very old (mid 80s most likely). It was not the classiest place ever and most likely not the nicest Melia. Missing tiles in the pool made it looks trashy, the beds were terribly hard, the rooms were very outdated, most of the beach chairs and pool chairs were broken. They need to invest in the property. -Great weather. We chose PV because we knew it would be 85 and sunny in January. It cooled down at night, but was gorgeous. Also, not too busy because it was not quite the busy season yet.

Only stayed for 1 night..Posted Jan 20, 2014
Pros: It was in the marina district and close to the airport, 50 peso taxi ride...
Cons: It would be nice if they had Free Wi-Fi in the rooms instead of just in the Lobby..
We checked out of another resort and stayed at the Melia for 1 night before flying out the next day.. The Melia was a nice stop before heading home.. We had stayed here before when our flight was over booked and liked it.. The rooms were comfortable, we were on the 5th floor, so the view was great, pool was nice but not heated.. Free Wi-Fi was only in the Lobby.. The Melia is in a nice location with a short walk to the Marina, and a 15 min bus ride to downtown..

Very nice hotel but needs improvementsPosted Jan 2, 2014
Pros: the staff, the pool, the restaurants, the shows, the gardens, the cleanliness, the location.
Cons: Building old, needs to be improved. Beds really small (full size), pipes really noisy, Wi-Fi connection very bad.
Location: Great location (next to the marina by feet) not far from Puerto Vallarta down town. Easy with taxis

Nice older place. Very nice pool and grounds. Our room and the area outside the room entrance had a very foul odor the entire time we were there. Sometimes the odor was very over powering.
