Nice, clean, friendly.Posted Nov 27, 2013
Cons: I think it would be great if they could add a couple of stairs exiting and entering the pool. They only had walk up steps at one end of the pool.
Location: We did a city tour, which included many of the highlights of PVR, as well as an excellent tequila tasting.
I liked the fact that they had 3 swimming pools, one dedicated to adults only. They offered a variety of on resort activities which were fun. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Although they only had 2 restaurants, a buffet and a beach snack bar, the food was good and there was plenty of selection. We were able to watch a turtle lay eggs, and also the release of newly hatched turtles.

Pros: Reasonable food, friendly staff
Cons: Management does not pay enough attention to create quiet time at night. After 1-2 AM , there is loud music next to the pool and dances,

Good Value on the Shoulder SeasonPosted Nov 17, 2013
Cons: Snack Bar, Check-in process, Pool: surfaces around pool need serious repair and are unsafe. Hotel management.
We booked this early with air inclusive well in advance and felt we got a good value for a 5 night all inclusive deal for two 40 somethings and a 2 year old. Great: The beach is great! Fine sand and it goes on forever for walking, plus the water is warm. The resort furnishes all of the chairs umbrellas and water sport gear as part of the package. The Bar, Restaurant, Water Activity, Bell, and House Keeping staff are outstanding and friendly. Safe environment. Stocked mini-bar in room as part of the package. Good: The rooms were pretty nice and big enough for the three of us. It looks like the room had been updated in the last few years. Food at the buffet was pretty good with a wide selection (tip: I thought the Mexican dishes were better than American and European one’s). Breakfast had eggs and omelets cooked to order and Francisco (one of many great staffers) was waiting for us with hot coffee and juice in the morning. Entertainment was fun to watch in the evening and I would recommend the Aztec and Latin dancing nights. The liquor & beer selection was good for an all inclusive, with several name brands on the shelf. Ok: Not too crowded! Well except Saturday, when I think the hotel sells a lot of day passes and weekend junkets, the service and food were not as good on Friday evening through Saturday

The food was no where near a 4 star. Not much for entertainment. The rooms were nice. Great beach

Nice, friendly resort!Posted Nov 16, 2013
Pros: We enjoyed this resort, as it is not too big, and it is on a nice beach. The staff are very friendly, and helpful. And we liked the adult only pool.
Cons: Should have balconies for all rooms! No time share people or beach vendors bothering you! Adult pool activities and better nightly entertainment.
Location: The location is great! It has a shopping mall, casino and medi clinic across the street. Also, has a bus stop to go into Puerto Vallarta or Bucerias

Wonderful except forPosted Nov 16, 2013
Our stay which was our third at occidental was wonderful as always. The good was great, the drinks are the best, the staff esp Erik is super. The whole place would get a total five star from me if the sales pressure was removed from guests. Every time you used the elevators, you get hit on. I hate being pressured on vacation.

hotel in great need of updatesPosted Nov 14, 2013
Pros: the location
Cons: every one having the same standard. Upgrading or lowering the star rating so people don't feel ripped off.
the hotel was listed as a 5 star Grand hotel but it definitely does not make it passed a 3 star. No welcome drinks, no refreshment towels... the AC was not working, the fridge had not been turned on, then the toilet stopped working, had to move rooms. Rooms did not get made until late afternoon. The food was just OK, the cushions on the chairs were severely stained - very unpleasant! Apparently there is a two tear system, either bottom of the barrel or Royal Club. We were not informed at time of booking so we had the low class... lowest quality of wines (undrinkable) different color of towels, restricted to low class sections of hotel ect. It makes it uncomfortable when you meet people who can access all parts and you are not permitted to go there to sit with them... because you booked a lower class. The saving grace was the wonderful character of the General Manager who tried his best to make us welcome!!!

Great honeymoon!!Posted Oct 13, 2013
This hotel and its staff went above and beyond our expectations! The all inclusive is so worth it and the location is beautiful... Ana and the royal club staff were quick to help and answer any questions. All of the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, Gustavo at the bar lounge was the best!! :) Would recommend the Occidental to anyone!!

Nice hotel, convenient location.Posted Oct 12, 2013
Pros: The personnel. Make sure you let the timeshare people know you are not interested right from the start and they will not bug you.
Cons: Maybe an additional bartender at the pool bar. This became very crowded when you have both adults and children wanting drinks.
Location: Mall across the street was great.
This was probably not the best time to go to PV but we went anyway. We had stayed at the 'old' Allegro resort and was pleasantly surprised on the outcome of the transformation to Occidental. When we arrived we were sent to the Royal Club on the 7th floor to check in. Elsa and her coworker we very helpful and checked us in with out delay. We found that depending on who you booked your room with your were either checked in at the front desk or the 7th floor. Not sure how this was determined. The lobby bar with Gustavo as the bartender was great. He was attentive and made sure we had a drink in hand. Overall we had a great experience but my go well before the rainy season so the water would be clearer. The runoff for the rivers made the ocean murky.

Great time!Posted Sep 28, 2013
Pros: We loved the adult pool and the lounge where we would end our day after a great meal!
Cons: Nothing to think of
Location: Paradise Village Mall- there is a grocery store and some small shops. Even a Starbucks for those who need it!
We celebrated our 25th anniversary and had a great time! The staff was friendly, the food was great and the hotel was the perfect place to celebrate!
