Nice hotel with great ocean view.

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Friendly and helpful front desk people. The Italian restaurant had amazing food and service.
Cons: They should tell people who tip. Younger people sometimes don't know what is expected and these people work hard at the hotel.
Location: Mall across the street. Best beach view and location. Starbucks across the street.
We upgraded to have ocean view room. Defiantly worth it! The service was great! Food was good! Right across the street from a mall. Just didn't like the time share sales pitch when we first arrived. Other than that we loved it. Would go back again!

Sweet retreat

Posted Feb 20, 2015
Pros: The hotel staff and waiters worked hard to make sure all our needs were met.
Cons: The size of the beds. The room was a little tight for the four of us - two adults and two kids.
Location: Walking the beach was beautiful.
Hotel staff were friendly, helpful and eager to please all guests. The view from the ocean front room was excellent- beautiful sunsets. Restaurants were great - buffet continually changing and so there was so much to pick from. Plus there was a snack shack with pizza, burgers and fries if you wanted a lighter lunch. Open bar that served both kids and adults which was awesome. The hotel and beach were clean. The staff courteous and caring making sure that our stay was the best. I would definitely go back to this resort and would recommend it to friends.

Needs some love

Posted Feb 19, 2015
This was one of the most disappointing resorts that I've stayed at in my international travels. Unfortunately, I was expecting a suite and received a very tiny hotel room. No patio. Room smelled like raw sewage as did the area by the adult pool. This was a very expensive stay for a run-down hotel. The food was mediocre. Hotel staff was amazing, though. Carlos at lobby bar was great. Bombarded by time-share and concierge on arrival. Will definitely never return.

Nice beach

Posted Feb 14, 2015
Pros: Beach was beautiful.
Cons: Lobby seating uncomfortable. Internet access.
Location: Not to far from airport. Mall close by. Excursions available nearby
Overall nice hotel. Food in restaurants very good. The buffet was just ok. Lots of choices of typical buffet items. Entertainment and activities were very nice. Room comfortable for the money. Run from the high pressure join our club sales pitch. Internet access was awful. Beach and pool area was nice.

A friends Wedding

Posted Feb 11, 2015
Pros: Service in the Buffet and pool bar was very good.
Cons: Beds are very hard. GM could use diplomacy when interacting with employees in front of guests.
Location: Good location by Marina, Mall and restaurants.
This Hotel is not equipped for Wedding parties. Staff is very good. Family pool is noisy and active but you can escape at the adult pool very easily. Beach and ocean is really nice.

Paradise!

Posted Feb 6, 2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: More restaurant choices
We stayed at the Occidental from Jan 25th to Feb 1, 2015. The weather was perfect (85 degrees, sunny or a few clouds) EVERY single day. The ocean (bay) water temp was comfortable, probably in the 75 degree range. Pools were also comfortable and virtually empty most of the time. Both pool and beach areas were always clean. There were always plenty of towels and lounge chairs available both at the beach and pool areas. We are pretty low key so we weren't interested in loud, raucous activities by the pool. The music wasn't too loud and always lively. The activities staff was excellent! Vincent, Miguel, Andreas, Johnny, and the rest were always attentive and helpful. This resort had plenty of activities to suit us, yoga on the beach in the morning (awesome Vincent!!) beach and water volleyball, bicycle tours to the dolphin center, kayaks, boogie boards, etc. The food was great too. The buffet always had fresh fruit and seafood, lots of variety (Mexican influenced of course), and always fresh. We only dined at the italian restaurant and it was also very good. The service at both the buffet and restaurant was exceptional. I wish I could name each person but they were all so friendly and helpful! Bar service was always great, I basically lived on mango margaritas by the pool, lol. The indoor lounge is open and airy, plenty of oversized couches and sitting areas to enjoy a cocktail before dinner or fresh coffee in the morning. We were offered the vacation club presentation and d

Occidental PV

Posted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: Relatively small hotel, well kept, friendly staff lots of lounge chairs at pools and beach, always had chairs available, not true at larger hotels.
Cons: Sound amplification is way too loud at shows and events. Updating outside continues, inside renovations appear to be complete. Don't buy WiFi.
Location: Beach is great, location convenient to casino, hospital, shopping center. Bit of a journey to town but lots to do at hotel, on beach, or near by.
Lots to do or just relax. Staff was amazingly helpful and accommodating. Entertainment every night ranging from magic to traditional dances. Food was excellent, lots of variety plus two speciality restaurants (Italian - climate controlled and an open air Mexican restaurant). Beach was huge and miles long, depth of water slowly increases, no big drop off so great for younger and elderly visitors who like to wade in the water. Nice waves for boogy boarding. Two lovely pool areas, one for adults only the other has shallow area for young kids and large activity pool. Lots of organized activities centered around the large pool plus a great series of free bicycle tours. Also, a kids club . Local buss to north side of town (Plaza Las Glorias) is a dollar and another local buss to the town center or the Romantic Zone is another dollar. Free WiFi at Starbucks across the street at shopping plaza. Excellent small hotel where you can really meet people if you want.

Close to Shopping and Directly on the Beach

Posted Jan 22, 2015
Pros: Location and close to shopping plaza. Easy to catch the bus or taxi to go in to town.
Cons: More towels in the room and better shampoo/bar soap.
Location: Close to local mall. Hard Rock Resort next door. Local craft Hut next to the hotel on the beach.
Check in was quick and easy. Hotel staff greeted us with a towel and a bottle of water. Booked an ocean view room and after 3 different rooms we managed to get the ocean view and pool view room. We were pleased with the surroundings and the grounds were well kept. The internet in the lobby was ok for free wifi.
