Super place to stayPosted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: Very nice place to stay especially if you are trying to get away from winter and the cold climates.
Cons: Very minor things mentioned above.
Location: Whale watching, local tours, swim with the dolphins, scuba/snorkling adventures, deep sea fishing. All worth while.
Stayed from Feb 16-23rd 2014. Hotel is beautiful, staff is more than happy to assist in any way and are all very friendly and helpful. Only areas of concern are minor - no alarm clock; beds sheets a little worn but clean; no light in showers; no pens, pencils or paper in room for notes; a few items not restocked in room unless asked for but this may have been because we only chose to have the room made up every other day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. Will be doing it again in the future.

Nice hotel, nice beach, overall a good experiencePosted Feb 19, 2014
We stayed at Riu Vallarta from Febr 8-16 and overall we did enjoyed our stay. We would return and we would recommend the hotel to others. On the plus side: the hotel is well maintained, very clean, the pools are also very nice and the beach is great. You can swim, they offer complimentary kayaks and boogie boards. The staff is friendly and the entertainment team is definitely trying and doing their best to entertain, including the kids. Lunch is good, breakfast and dinner are better though. On the minus side: matresses are hard, bathroom sink water is not potable, no fan in the bathroom and Wi-Fi only for 90 mins on the lobby.

February TripPosted Feb 18, 2014
Cons: A little variety at the buffets - breakfast and lunch were always the same options.
Location: Las Caletas was an excellent excursion option. Golf at the Flamingo was an easy cab ride and course is in good condition. Buceria is fun too.
Our room was away from the center courtyard and that was wonderful! Great view of the property and ocean. Very nice room and always cleaned with the added 'towel sculpture' to top off the cleaning. Green spaces were beautiful. Adult pool was murky but tolerable. Probably sunscreen. Buffets were fine; nicer restaurants were much better quality. Very pleased we could eat at them more than once during our 10 day stay. Beach area was beautiful. Chairs in both the beach and pool areas were old and not in great shape but the weather helped us overlook them. Nightly entertainment was good and live music was excellent! We took a cab from the airport and they charged us US dollars for the peso price. We tried to negotiate with no luck. Much better rate on our return.

Great Anniversary!Posted Jan 13, 2014
Pros: Everything the hotel was at a reasonable walking distant (ex. restaurants, gift shop, beach, pool).
Cons: Softer beds.
Location: I would recommend the city tour. It was amazing.
The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. The beds are very firm. I would ask for a mattress pad at the front desk upon check in. The hotel was very beautiful. The beach was amazing. If you are looking for "blue" ocean water this is not the place. The ocean is more of a brown color. We had a great time.

Beautiful all-inclusive resortPosted Jan 12, 2014
Pros: The beach, the food, the staff...all were great.
Cons: More security to quiet the noisy 2 am disco crowds. Too many birds in the restaurants.
Location: 40 minute walk along beach or road to Bucerias market. The bus to downtown Puerto Vallarta stopped just across the road.
Ocean front resort on a 4 mile stretch of clean sandy beach. Excellent for swimming. Swimming pool is not heated so on the cloudy days, the water was cold (January). The food and service in the buffet restaurant was very good, preferred the buffet over the three "specialty" restaurants. We reserved an ocean view junior suite but we were given a suite on the main floor over looking the children's pool. The reservation desk was eager to please us and moved us to the 8th floor, with a view of the ocean.

Good beach, nice area, great architecture in hotelPosted Jan 6, 2014
Pros: They had a good band on New Year's Eve and it really got the people rockin'! We recognized some of the employees from our previous visit, and that was
Cons: Spend some money on the patrons!
We stayed there five years ago and it was fun. This time it appeared as though it was all about saving money for the hotel chain. They still use metal keys in the doors and safe and charged us $30.! When we lost one. No room service, ice machine was broken on our floor the entire time, the mattresses were so hard the wife and I had to take aspirins before bed to be able to sleep! Internet was only available in the lobby and only for 90 minutes a day free and was a real pain to sign on. Entertainment was mostly playing games with the audience, boring! Drinks were very noticeably watered down, how do they do that with a brand new bottle? No premium brands. They served a seafood dinner on New Year's Eve but the lobster and crab were mushy, like it'd been frozen forever. The food overall was fair. Maybe we've been spoiled elsewhere, sorry.

No security and don't stay here for free.Posted Jan 5, 2014
We stayed at the riu Vallarta from dec. 20 to jan 4. The second nite there our room was broken into and an IPad was stolen. I immediately reported it to Maria Hernandez, the hotel assistant manager. She told us not to file a police report because they would start an investigation. What a joke. They have two security guys per shift and no security cameras on each of eight floors. While we were reporting our room being broken into another women came in tears to report that someone broke into her room and stole her wedding rings. They say they have wi fi. Only in the lobby and for 90 minutes per day. With so many other guests trying to get on at the same time you have no chance. There is a one inch sign in the lower left corner of the mirror in the bathroom of our room that says "not potable". That means not drinkable. Don't get this water in your mouth while showering, you will get sick. I can't believe a hotel of this size doesn't have a water filtration system.

The beds are hard as a rock. You have to ask for mattress pads if they have some to give out. The evening shows are pretty good. The food in the Buffett is good but could have more variety. The specific restaurants like Nirvana as a sushi restaurant are a joke. Their sashimi was smoked salmon and the rest of the sushi had cream cheese in it, but I guess what can you expect. Beach is good and pools are nice.

Everything was great except the front desk...Posted Jan 2, 2014
We booked an ocean view with 2 beds but they didn't have it available. The front desk Ramon & his supervisor, Salvador - which I don't think he was his supervisor at all - didn't understand that we wanted what we paid for. Between the 2 of them I think their aim was to tire us out with arguing with us when we continued to ask for what we paid. They are a joke. As great as facilities, the food, the location and the other wait staff, we're never staying here again nor would recommend it to friends. The front desk was the worst reception Ive received. They were not helpful & condescending.
