“Great place!”

This is the second year we have stayed at Star Bay and it suits us perfectly. It's at the end of the run for hotels - which makes it quiet and secluded. The Management is awesome - very helpful. My luggage got picked up by another traveler at the airport and the front desk at Star Bay helped me get it back. We will return!

“"Somewhat disappointed with the hotel"”

The hotel is located in a somewhat remote section of Bucerias and is appropriate if you want the quiet. The room has a full kitchen and a living area but has a/c only in the bedroom area. We were very disappointed with the restaurant, the food was not good at all. There was only 1 staff memeber (that we saw) but he was courteous and helpful. Overall, it was not what we expected, but it is not a bad place. Since the location was so remote, there was no other nearby restaurant, at least that we knew of. Also, no shopping area or any other place to go for entertainment. But if what you are looking for is "getting away from it all" and quiet, then this is a good hotel! Just make sure and stop at the local supermarket to buy food, drinks, etc. The hotel had only one pool, but it is right by the beach so there was a very nice view!

When to go
November - January if you want cooler weather September if you want less crowds
Getting around
We rented a car, but the buses are really cheap! The taxis are not as cheap but are a good alternative if you don't want to drive and don't want to get on the bus.
Events and shows
"El Malecon" which is the bayfront area in Puerto Vallarta has a lot of vendors, different kinds of outdoor shows and lots of restaurants nearby.
Other
Make sure and get dollars converted to pesos as soon as possbile. You can do that at the airport, but you won't get as good a rate. There are plenty of exchange houses that will give you a better rate. It's so much better to deal with pesos than with dollars!

“Simple and Spacious at the edge Bucerias”

I rented a 2 bedroom suite with family for a week in late January. My first impressions of Star Bay was good. The place is clean and well maintained. The suite was spacious and the kitchen was equipped with the basics. Staff was friendly and helpful. Due to the "V" shaped layout of the place, it can get a little noisy at times if there is a lot of activity around the pool. There are some good restaurants in Bucerias, plan on about 30-40 minutes if you are walking. The beach has some rocks but is fairly clean, water was usually very calm in this part of the bay. Location is stategic if you want to explore a bit. Not too far from PV, Punta de Mita and Sayulita. I would definatley consider staying here again, especially if traveling with a group of friends or family.

“Wonderful find!”

This was our second time to Bucerias and our first time at Star Bay (we had previously stayed at Vista Vallarta All Suites just next door). Star Bay was beautiful - small, quiet - we almost had the place to ourselves - only about 4-5 rooms were occupied for our stay. The room was small, but cozy - living area, kitchen, bath & bedroom. Bed was hard, but comfy - typical hard Mexican bed. We had a balcony which looked out to the sea - all rooms do have this. The pool was immaculate and very refreshing. Overall, just a wonderful relaxing stay. We will definately go back. The staff were wonderful as well and we even got to chat with one of the owners.

Area recommendations
The beach is great. The village of Bucerias is quaint and fun to explore.
Getting around
Taxis are not as cheap as a lot of reviews state - from the airport to Bucerias was $28, from Mega to Bucerias was $12, from Nuevo Vallarta to Bucerias was $10. Most will take american dollars as well as pesos. The Bus from Bucerias to the Mega was 8 pesos.
Dining
Star Bay resturant was good. In Bucerias, The Fat Boy Seafood on the beach was great - the pulpo cocktail was incredible, as was the fish of the day. Miguel Angel off the Plaza is a huge rip off. Food from the vendors on the plaza and across from the church are great street food! Don't be afraid to try some of this - it's what most of the locals eat regularly. Stock up on staples either at The Mega - a big walmarty place or just buy from any of the small mom & pops in the village - they have all you'll need, including coolers full of great fresh tortillas. Buy fresh caught seafood from the vendors on the meridians in the street on the side of the church - great shrimp, pulpo and various fish of the day. There is a market under the bridge on Sundays where you can buy great local produce as well as pollo asado - grilled chicken.
Outdoors or beach
The beach is great - swimming in the ocean is easy. Walking the beach is easy.

“horrible experience”

I have stayed here many times and found it to be simple and comfortable. This time was different. There is a new management team and I do not think they can be trusted. A pipe broke in our room, we were moved in the middle of the night, and robbed by the morning hours. It had to be an inside job. Don't go there!

“I will be going back...”

When I took the bus(cheaper)to Busarias, I really did not know where to get off...had a bit of a walk...the room was 2 queen beds, kitchenette, 2 TV's with remote, 2 bathrooms. I had a patio, there are balconies. The pool was great, big, wading pool for kids and or simply for relaxing...and showers by the beach entrance and exit. Small, but more than adequate restrant bar. Very friendly people, reasonalbly priced and will head back in a heart beat. You are only a 30 to 40 minute beach walk to town or you can pay 6 pesos for a bus ride into town. Not a 5 star hotel, but if you want simplicity and comfort without the huge cost, this is sure bet.

Traveler's tip
Take a bus into town to pick up groceries and a bus back, 6 pesos, take a bus to Puerto Vallarta for 10 pesos, walk the beach front, enjoy the entertainment and food. During nights, do not travel alone, but the most part(I was alone this stay)it was a fun, safe and friendly trip!

“Nice but noisy”

Nice hotel, out of the way a bit, beds are extremely hard, rooms have breath taking views. Alot of small children, very noisy it echoes through the whole place as the pool is in the middle, people partying, kids screaming and crying at all hours of rhe night. Don' think we'll return there.

Traveler's tip
The price is right.

“Great home base for family vacation”

Clean and spacious suites but the beds are REALLY hard. The great staff moved us to a different room, but the beds were the same. The restaurant/bar has odd hours so plan on going out or using the kitchen in the room. There is a cooktop that they don't mention in the room details. The gates to the beach and parking are locked early, good for security, bad for walks on the beach. The staff was very helpful in booking activities and even helped when I had problems with my rental car. Enough space for a large family to spread out and relax and only a 10-30 minute drive to all of the activities. Not to mention the fair price. This is a very Mexican resort

Traveler's tip
The "Marietas Cruise" from Vallarta Adventures was great. A day long cruise with kayaking, snorkeling, scuba, food and drink. The staff was helpful and entertaining on board. Also a day trip North to Sayulita was great.
