“Would like to go back again soon”

The grounds and buildings were very well maintained. The food was plentiful and they had something for everyone. Service was great at all the bars, resturants. The rooms were very clean and taken care of everyday. All languages were spoken by some and if not they got someone who could translate what you were saying.

“Got what we payed for”

For the cost of this all-inclusive hotel, we got what we payed for. Pros: Great night life/shows/beach party/etc, staff was friendly and helpful, beautiful grounds (walk instead of takng the tram), room was clean and comfortable, althought were quite dated. The A/C in the room was great and mini-bar stocked once daily (4 beer, 4 sodas, 2 water). There is no restriction on a la carte restaurants (stopped this years ago) and their food was far superior to the buffets. The beaches were clean and beautiful wiht warm shallow water, plenty of beach chairs/cabanas available, and beach side bars. FYI quite a few topless women. Cons: Room was a bit dated. Spa bathtub did not work but someone came to fix immediately. Very low water pressure. Most tv channels fuzzy and phone didn't work (although they gave us a knock on the door as a wake up call instead). Buffet food was not great, except the crepes and omelettes. Food tended to be left out for a while and go stale. There seemed to be limited drink choice outside of lobby bars (coould only get mojitos there). "Free gift" they offer you upon arrival is not free. You must sit through a pushy 90-minute sales presentation on becoming a club member ($29,000) all for 2 t-shirts and hats. Lots of annoying vendors on site for jewellery and water sports. Very pushy and irritating. One even hit me up in the bathroom, while peeing, to say i should give him $5 for talking to me. I fyou want to book a trip, use reps in lobby

Area recommendations
We went on the Catalina Chivon Excursion. It was a full day (8am - 8pm) inlcuding bus ride, catamaran ride, snorkeling, beach, river boat with lunch, and a short visit to Chivon village. Purchased through representative in hotel lobby. Alcohol on board/food/snacks included. Servers and tour guide were fantastic!
Getting there
We bought shuttle service through expedia to get to and from the airport/hotel (~$30 per person). Hotel also offers a shuttle service which was about $18 per person roundtrip.
What to pack
Bug spray and sunscreen. If you don't check a bag, you won't be able to take much liquid in your carry on and will have to buy in the hotel (EXPENSIVE!)
Shopping
If you feel inclined to buy from vendors around the complex, haggle aggresively! They will try to charge you an extortionate amount for goods. We ended up paying 30% of what was originally asked for. Don't think you are cheating them. if they weren't making money on the transaction, they would not sell to you. The hotel shops were always a nice place to visit. Some items were reasonably priced while necessity items (bug spray/sunscreen) were EXPENSIVE!
Dining
Only eat dinner at a la cartes! For the japanese restaurant, only sit at the hibachi (show cooking), as the other section is a completely different menu and a lower standard. Get their early (6PM) to put your name down as the tables fill up quick (about as close as it gets to making a reservation). We also ate at the Chinese and Mexican and both were very good. Buffets were only ok. Can get hotdogs and hamburgers at the beach during lunch, as well as other little snack foods. The sports bar is open 24 hours and has good snacks.
Events and shows
Went to the nighly shows in the 2 amphitheaters and they were always entertaining. Circus show was very good. Beach party on thrusday night was a blast! Great music and staff are enthusiastic. Prizes for winning compeitions include bottles of mamajauna (local rum) and bags of DR coffee.
Other
Confusing desriptions of hotel amenities at times through Expedia and other websites. Check out Fiesta Groups website, which is the parent company of Grand Palladium and has a much more detailed and accurate description. In order to get room llights to work, you must insert your room key card into slot near the door. We were not explained this at first and thought our lights didnt' work. Not a problem once we knew how to use it. Also recommend using safe!

“Bavaro beach!!!”

Pros: of the GP. Beach is awesome nothing but white sand and blue clear water!! Yes , you have to play the towel game early in the am to get an umbrella and chairs. The location of our rooms was close to the beach, great!! All wings of the GP punta can a are very close to beach, pool and buffet. The buffet at Punta Cana GP is on the beach. The staff wascall very friendly. Cons:Rooms are very outdated , smell musty, linen bedspread etc are very old and dirty looking. There is no shower!! Have hooked up a hand held shower, that leaks and makes your entire bathroom wet . We used the scale in room to hold button down so we could take one. We had 4roooms. This was the case in all! Water was turned off at 945 am so kids could not brush their teeth . Ac was not working well in 1of the rooms. We will definitely look for another hotel. We made the best of our situation , and had a great time on the beach .

Area recommendations
Must go to the macaw beach (not sure of spelling) about 40 minutes from Bavaro.

“Would not recommend”

The resort was not as pictured online. The exterior is very impressive but rooms were old, outdated. Desperate need of updating....esp the bedding. Felt dirty, old. The bathroom was just as bad. The shower/tub did not have any water pressure, flooding everytime you showered. Disappointed with the Grand Pallidium in Punta Cana. Stick to GP in Riviera Maya.

“Love Palladium”

This was our second vacation at Grand Palladium Resort chain. First one was at Jamaica and we were impressed with that new Resort, so, we thought we will give Punta Cana a try. Though resort (complex of 4) has been around, it is well maintained. Things run like a well oiled machine. Not speaking Spanish was definetly -ve. The front desk service was one of the best ever seen. Franklin and Mirpil at Grand Palladium Palace were the best and they went above and beyond to take care of our group (of 40). One area they can improve on would be better transportation within resort. They do have small train and carts but they takes a while to get in one. ...very important...take some bug spray...most of us did get some bug bites while walking around or just sitting in lobby in evening Food is resonable...Japanese was probably the best.

“There are much nicer places to stay”

First time to DR, love the beaches. The hotel - not so much The ONLY request we had was either adjoining rooms (with our teenagers), or next to each other, the best they could do was across the hall Furniture in hotel was beat up, drawers did not close on dresser, sofas stained They turned the water to the hotel off 2X due to construction across the stree during our stay. Both times it was in the AM, four hours in one case. One day, they removed the towels from our room, never replaced them. Even after asking four times, the towels were not replaced until the following day. The "fitness center" is a joke. For a resort that size, THREE treadmills - only two of them worked. The food at the buffet is actually not bad, the key is getting there early while its fresh. The ala carte restaurants are good, but seriously - its 85-90 degrees out, and I have to wear long pants at a beach resort? I think I lost 5 pounds at the Hibachi place, the food was good, but it must have been 12o degrees in there. We met some people from Greece there, they were sweating as much as me The overall condition of the resort was marginal. The place is pretty run down (especially the pools at the PC and Palace), instead of touting all of the new facilities and upgrades (kids club) they are building, they should try maintaining the condition of the existing resort.

Area recommendations
I have heard the facility manager say they are "making improvements" to the facilty to make it better, thats all great, but it should not be at the inconvenience of paying/staying guests! And then to add salt to the wound, they try and sell you on the "Royal Suites" idea. When I explained to the rep that I was not interested in his free breakfast or presentation, and explained why (above), he said "well those things would NEVER happen at the Royal suites", so I said, well they should never happen here either! Just go another 20 minutes away from the airport, stay at the Melia Tropical. Its beatiful, and people we spoke with LOVED it there!

“Very Good but has Issues”

The resort was beautiful and well maintained but the rooms could of went either way from what I understand from other guests. My room happened to be spotless the only flaw was the comforter, dingy. All the meals where excellent besides lunch; lunch was bad everyday. The only decent place to get lunch was at the buffet near the lobby of the Bravaro section. Almost forgot this resort is like having 4 in 1 so the complex is tremendous but if you're not staying in the suite section, you can not utilize its facilities. For dinner definitely go to the al carte restaurants. I saw 2 of the resorts nightly shows both were good. Went to the nightclub one night, it was okay. The selection of liquor is horrible, I hope you like rum, but that has been my experience with the majority of all-inclusive resorts. I had a great time there it was just what I was looking for; relaxation with some fun. Lastly, I should just comment on the fact that there are a lot of Europeans not that it would effect your trip but its something I felt you should.

“30th Birthday Punta Cana”

This was my second Stay at a Palladium Hotel, last year I stayed at the one in Riviera Maya, Mexico so I knew what to expect. The food was great at the buffets and the restaurants, we never had to wait. The beach was amazing and we had no issues finding a good spot. The employees were so welcoming and fantastic. Ricardo and Gasolina were wonderful and great to hang out with during activities and afterward. Michele and Rosa at the Punta Cana lobby bar were fantastic!! Jesus at the front desk was so very very helpful the entire time. The massage girls at the cabana on the Royal Suites beach do magnificent work; we went back again the next day. I could not have asked for a better vacation or found a better place to celebrate my 30th birthday. Thank you to all the amazing hard working people at the Grand Palladium Punta Cana resort!!

When to go
Going in late October is key, it's the off season so the occupancy is low and the weather is perfect since hurricane season is basically over

“Extremely relaxing”

Grand Palladium is a very well mantained complex given the size (three hotels in one). We got a room upgrade because it was the first time we were in the hotel and it was very clean and comfortable. You will find a variety of amenities, along with programs and schedules inside the complex to fit different preferences. For a relaxing and calm stay as we were looking for, this was a perfect choice.
