The staff at the market place was rude. One waiter actually scolded my 4 yr old son. He is well behaved and was only lightly tapping his cup w/ his spoon. His father and I didn't think anything was wrong w/ that. I didn't pay to someone pick on my son.

Amazing Resort!

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Location: There's a shopping center nearby. Vendors bring paintings/ jewelry/ items onto the resort in the evenings to buy. Also gift shops within the resort.
My husband and I stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical resort for our honeymoon for 5 nights. The resort is beautiful, the staff is super friendly and always willing to help, the food was fantastic and we spent many hours in the pool/ on the beach/ in the ocean which were all very clean and tidy. The swim up bar is really neat, the drink variety is awesome and every person we had contact with absolutely loved the staff and the resort. We ate at a variety of restaurants (be sure to make reservations early) and went away deliciously full from every one. The Japanese and Steak/ Lobster meals are not included in the "all inclusive" packages but are WELL WORTH THE MONEY! We easily think those are two of the best meals we've ever eaten. Easily would have been $150-$200 meals in the USA. The buffets for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner are huge, have tons of variety and I promise you won't go away hungry. Just a note- the resort is very large, so keep an eye out for the trains that run every 10 minutes and guys with golf carts that will bring you places. $1-$5 tips go a long way and they go out of their way to help you... I'd be sure to bring a little cash. We did not stay in the "VIP" or "Adult only" sections and still found it very peaceful, quiet and fun. We also went para-sailing and swimming with dolphins/ sharks/ stingrays which were really fun experiences. WE loved it and would absolutely go back! Thanks, Sara & Rob

Good resort!

Melia was nice but it was too big. The rooms can use some updating. The worst was the buffet by the beach. The a la cart restaurants were good. The pool was good but too deep. The worst was when they insist to sell you a membership. Not enough shows.

HUGE

Employees were great and friendly. The lack of restaurants open were my biggest issue. Stayed 4 nights and only was able to get into one restaurants due to them being booked. They shouldn't advertise 13 restaurants when they are only going to open 3 per night.

Poor execution

Pros: Staff were excellent. Not everyone understood the names of liquor brands, even thought they had them, but they were really good
Cons: Transportation around this massive property is difficult, but they tried to give us personal attention when they could
Location: If you love the water, or zip lines, or boating; excellent. If you are more sedate as we 60-somethings are, the pool and pool bar are always good
With over two months notice of reservations, the hotel still booked us into a set of rooms that were to be renovated before the expiration of our stay. After 4 days that asked us to move rooms with two days to go. They offered an upgraded room, but we all know what a pain it is to move rooms, packing and unpacking, then moving out two days later. We had ants in our room and they did nothing about them for the four days after we told them

Amazing Hotel!

Pros: Everything! The swim up pool was really fun, everyone was friendly and energetic. I love that the hotel is right on the beach.
Cons: The only thing i did not like was the Melia Club sales pitch. They basicall force you to participate in it.
Location: I would highly recommend Catalina Island! A bit of a drive but worth it.
This is one of the most beautiful hotels i have ever stayed at and I've traveled quit a bit. Beautiful grounds, very friendly staff, rooms are clean, food is good and they are very generous with the alcohol as well.

Very large hotel!

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: Fernando Raveli went out of his way for us! What a great man! All restaurants were ok except Dominican. Japanese was worth the extra price.
Cons: Different places to eat breakfast that are sit down! Waitress service at Tropical pool!
Location: We did Dolphin Explorer, Excellence adventure. It was so much fun! Pricy but a once in a lifetime experience.
Nice place but I think it pays to stay in THE LEVEL area! It's very large so be prepared to walk or wait for the trolley to come around! Didn't like that only place you can have breakfast was at the buffets! I also didn't like that there wasn't waitress service by the Tropical pool. They could make ALOT of money in tips if they had them walking around. Rooms weren't that great. No flat screen TV's yet, beds were "ok" and also no alcohol in the refrigerators and it's an all inclusive place. Very strange. Waiters didn't even understand what an iced coffee was. Language barrier is very tough for English speaking people. My wife and I caught a stomach bug as we were leaving to go home and still hurts today (next day)! Think we had bad lobster our last night!
