Great hotel with beautiful beachesPosted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Beach, water, food, service
Cons: The area where they put on shows reeks on mold; we couldn't stay in there very long.
My husband and I stayed at the Riu Macao the end of September for our one year anniversary. We loved the beaches and the water was amazing. There was great service on the beach especially if you tipped the server. The pools were nice; the water was almost too warm. The pool bar can get a bit loud and crowded toward the end of the day. My husband and I seemed to be the only non-smokers so trying to get away from the other chain smoking guests was sometimes a chore. The food and drinks were great. The restaurants seemed to be closed a lot so that made making dinner reservations difficult. They only offered two times for the dinner reservations, 6:30 and 9. Our room was nice but there was an overwhelming chemical cleaning smell when we first got there. Sometimes when returning to our room there was a sewer smell. My husband isn't bothered by many things so we didn't complain but if I were there alone I would have. We didn't have any issues communicating with the staff and liked the idea that we didn't have to take a tram to get to places around the resort. We have stayed at other Riu Hotels and loved them; the Macao definitely had a lot of the things we loved at other Riu hotels. Would absolutely stay here again but would address any weird rooms smells on arrival.

Awesome place to relaxPosted Oct 6, 2014
Really nice resort, very good food, lots of seafood. We also liked the room service, very quick, the only thing about it is they need to add more items on room service menu. Rooms are very clean, and AC works really good, it is always cool in the room no matter how hot is outside. Beds are a little firm. The deck has lots of room. The resort itself is very enjoyable, lots of places to relax, ether in the lobby or by the pool, friendly staff will make sure you have a drink or coffee or anything you wish. Not a lot of entertainment, though they have live music, karaoke and dancing. So if you want to relax in very nice pleasant atmosphere, enjoy delicious food and drinks than this is the place to be!

A dream vacationPosted Sep 21, 2014
Pros: Very classic, the decorations, it is immaculate , and very good administration
Cons: The tv not too many good channel for peoples from the USA
Location: We'll the location close to the airport, and things near by don't know because we didn't go out, it was no need everything I needed was there
I arrived at the riu Macao on Monday 9/15/14 the front desk receptionist Darielis welcome us with a warm smile and a drink, it was about 1 pm and she already had the room ready for us. When we got to the room I wasn't happy because I though that I booked a ocean front and I got a back yard room I was upset and the bell boy called the front desk and manager advices him for us to go down and speak to him. I went down the next morning and spoke to Darielis by 1 pm our room was change with ocean front at no extra charge. Then when it was time for us to eat we went to el patio restaurant excellent place very good food there we met Radaneury and Elias, there we had breakfast and dinner they made sure that we had the best services anyone can us for we were treated like king and queens. We have being t many different resorts in punta Cana including the Hard Rock which is my number one and Riu Macao is my number two. I already told my family and friends about this resort and I will definitely go back.

Close to beach, great staff and entertainmentsPosted Sep 10, 2014
This would be a great hotel to go to ONLY if you plan to relax..I loved the idea of an all adults only resort. It was nice and quiet-not noisy at all..staffs are great and helpful! The beach view is amazing. It is also very clean but there are some seaweed problems. There is nothing to do there past 10 at night. Majority of the adults were elders. Not a party hotel!!!!!! Rooms are very stuffy due to the humidity in punta cana. There was also a smell that was not appealing after the rooms were cleaned. If you ask me, I rather hang out in the resort rather than in my hotel.
