Very nice resort. Staff VERY friendly and accommodating. Food was inconsistent. Breakfast buffet, only one, was not good at all. Food presented very beautifully but not much variety. DO NOT get the pizza in the Blue Marlin. It will ruin you for pizza for life. TERRIBLE! The steakhouse fillet was good, ribeye was NOT. Italian restaurant very good. Blue Marlin, so-so. Beautiful surroundings though. The Pacific Wok was about what you'd expect to find of Japanese food in the Caribbean, not great. Best bets on food, Steakhouse and Italian place. Rooms very nice, ask for an upgrade, you might get it for free. Had widespread AC issues in the rooms, heard many people talk about it but the move you if they can't fix it. Alcohol selection pretty good. Just be aware that only house wine is included. Listen to a couple of unreasonable people "pitch a fit" about it. Both house white and red ok though unless you're a wine snob.

One of the best!Posted May 28, 2015
This was our first time to Punta Cana and I have visited most, if not all the other Caribbean islands (parts of my family even moved from CT down to St. Thomas) and sanctuary cap Cana was unlike nothing else. The resort was so well maintained and the staff was beyond friendly. I will definitely be returning!!!

Nice When we moved to a room at Castle.Posted May 27, 2015
Not very crowded due to low number of rooms although they were at 75% capacity.

Very pleasant place! Must see in Punta CanaPosted May 26, 2015
Pros: Mostly the architecture and the staff and the way we were feeling comfortable traveling with our small baby.
Cons: 1. Access to the beach next to the hotel. 2. Food in the Italian & Asian restaurants
Location: The must to do near the hotel is to go see the public beach just next to it. It is a postal card type of beach!!!
The hotel architecture inspired from the Andalusia (South Spain/Arabic architecture) is gorgeous! A well done masterpiece. The staff are so nice, cordial and warm, they make our experience so pleasant, comfortable and humanly warm! We have in mind so wonderful people like Elio, Damarys, Conan and Biakley. The food is overall good, the steakhouse is by far the best spot to eat for dinner, the BlueMarlin restaurant on the beach for lunch offers an amazing view on the sea. We got little disappointed by the Asian and Italian restaurants. The pool is perfect! the beach unfortunately is very small and not that much attracting. We were traveling with a small kid so we couldn't afford to go outside for the beach, but just next to the hotel (5min walking on the sand) there is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the country and it is wild one (no hotels, just you and the sea). Overall, it is worth it!

Beautiful resortPosted May 24, 2015
Sanctuary is not as advertised--it is far more beautiful in person than even the photoshopped professional photos on their website. The grounds are gorgeous and well kempt. Pictures really don't do it justice. We paid for a junior suite ocean view, one step up from the basic room. what we got was a 700+ square foot private villa with living room, bedroom, walk in closet, large bathroom, French doors onto a deck with a spacious yard. The restaurants in the all inclusive package were actually quite good for all inclusives. Several different restaurant options - large menus, no prie fixed meals. Took a few days to find the few items on the menus that were actually quite good. The best part of the resort is the staff and guest services; very helpful and informative. Staff would routinely recognize you and greet you by name and all seemed very genuine. The one downside to the resort and the reason for 4/5 is mainly the beach; the beach itself is the typical white sand with gorgeous views. Unfortunately that side of the island is very prone to algae which built up and landscaping crews spent a lot of effort on the Sisyphean task to remove it. This made actually swimming in the water less than stellar; that being said the Sanctuary easily made up for this with their gorgeous pool. All in all, a great experience and vacation.

Get what you pay forPosted May 20, 2015
Overall we had a nice time. We have definitely stay in nicer resorts, however, it was a good deal for the price we paid. The accommodations and decor were dated but overall comfortable. The beach was small but nice lounging areas. The ocean water was poor clarity and rocky sand. The food was mediocre. We had a wonderful time at "The Blue Hole" and at Punta Espada Golf course. My favorite thing about the resort was that it was calm and quite and easy to relax there. I would probably spend the money on a nicer resort with a better beach if I ever go back the DR.

Pure BlissPosted May 20, 2015
From the moment I first arrived and was greated by our Butler and Concierge staff I was wowed at every turn. My stay was in the Luxury Villa with a pool, a must have to escape the heat at times. Proposed to my girlfriend and set wedding date to return and get married there. I give the attention to detail, food and staff a 12 out of 10

Quiet retreat with excellent servicePosted May 19, 2015
Pros: We loved the style of the hotel and the staff the most and since we are busy girls we enjoyed the quiet and small crowds too.
Cons: I found the beds a little uncomfortable, not that I wasn't able to rest but that will be something that can be improved.
Location: The location is great if you love the beach as it is right next to Juanillo, if you only care for the bars and nightlife prepare to pay lots in cabs.
We stayed here for five days and we had a blast. This is not your typical overcrowded and big resort... this is a very small and quite place with very nice colonial architecture. The facilities are clean and nice, although beds are not super comfy they are pretty fair and food is excellent. The staff is very friendly and they will treat you like VIP. The beach at the hotel is quite small but it's located walking distance from playa Juanillo which is a pretty nice beach so this is not an inconvenience. There are lots of couples in this place and most singles you see are there for destination weddings. We were three single girls from Mexican background and I guess we kind of stand out for that, everyone on the staff knew us and many even called us by our names so we didn't mind the couple thing at all. They were also other few singles and we got to meet them and hang out with them at night outside the resort, which was very convenient to split the cab as they are very expensive. Activities in the Island are pretty cheap compared to other places in the Caribbean and you always get to meet friendly people everywhere. You can also take a cab, or rent a car and drive to Bavaro area where there are more bars and things to do at night. If you are just looking to party this will not be the resort for you unless you rent a car, but if you are looking to relax, have a good time, enjoy the beach and yourself this is the place to be.

Great hotel!Posted May 19, 2015
We stayed at the resort for 6 days and 7 nights. The food, staff, amenities, and entertainment was wonderful. The only thing we had an issue with was the room smelling musty. After our first night we noticed the the pillows were what was causing the musty smell. I called down to the front desk to let them know we needed new pillows and housing keeping delivered them within a couple minutes. After removing the pillows our room smelled fine for the rest of our visit. I recommend buying the all-inclusive package. It's much cheaper then paying for drinks and meals sepretley! The hotel taxes 18% every time you make a purchase / charge something to your room. The tax does not apply to guests that have the all-inclusive package, unless you leave a tip. We found out, during check out, that they charged us 18% tax on all tips that we charged to the card attached to our room. Definitely tip the wait staff in cash. I highly recommend this hotel!!
