“EXCELLENT HOTEL”

EXCELLENT HOTEL, STAFF ALL VERY NICE AND VERY FRIENDLY, POOL GOOD, FOOD GOOD. REALLY ENJOYED THE STAY.

“True Sardinian Flavour”

A place one doesn't want to leave. Friendly staff, lovely pool and excellent restaurant with local cuisine in beautiful surroundings. The conversion of a monastery into a really trendy and tastefully designed hotel is quite unique. Old an new blend beautifully. The location is superb, as it is near the Motorway, the beach and Cagliary. Would go back tomorrow.

“What a welcome”

This is definitely the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in, the staff were magnificent with our 16 month old daughter and us. Food was good and reasonably priced. Recommend that you avoid June, July and August according to the manager!! April and May are lovely.

“Exactly what we needed - don't believe the negative reviews”

I was nervous about choosing this hotel given some of the comments - but had no problems at all. To quickly address some of those points. Distance to beach - it is about 10 minutes walk - or 3 minutes drive as you can park almost on the beach. The beach is good although there are better. Staff speaking english. The receptionists all speak english and you can get by with the rest although it is only polite to learn a few phrases. Hotel run down - I didn't think it was. Rooms dark - perhaps a very little, but I think it was fine Food poor quaility/ expensive. The food we had was fine and the cost was on a par with local places. Breakfast limited. There was a choice of cereal, toast fruit, croissants, cakes, meats, cheeses, omlettes and other stuff - what more could you want? It is down a dirt road - no, it is a very new tarmac road Moving on, the pool was excellent. The hotel also has beach umbrellas etc that you can use. The building is old, so could be a problem if you get noisy neighbours, but they would have to make plenty of din to be a problem. Also they do have a disco part, but it is not amongst the residential part.

“Can't recommend this hotel enough!”

We stayed in three different hotels whilst in Sardinia and by far this was the best (and incidentally the cheapest!). It's located in a beautiful area and is full of rustic charm. We stayed in two different rooms (due to extending our stay as we liked it so much) and both were good sized and well-maintained. The staff couldn't have been more helpful despite our inability to speak Italian. We had a very helpful waitress who translated the menu for us every night and the receptionist Donatella who made us feel very welcome despite the language barrier. The pool was lovely and on some occasions we were the only ones to enjoy it so if you are looking for a quiet place this is ideal as we were there in August. I would have no hesitation in going back to this hotel as we liked it that much.

“dream place”

I booked this hotel with mixed feelings from previous reviews but I can honestly say that it exceeded our expectations.From the moment you arrive you instantly relax.The pool area is a dream,the hotel itself is rustical and interesting and although the rooms are basic you have everything you require.We would certainly recommend this hotel and we would certainly return here.The restaurant and service was also excellent.

“WE LOVE THE MONASTERO”

This is the second year we have visited this hotel. Although it is quite rustic, it offers you everything you could wish for. It feels like a charming oasis by the poolside and if you want a hotel with the look of something from 'Zorro' - then this is the place for you! The manageress of the hotel is very keen to make sure your stay is everything you would want. It is close to a beautiful beach and is well situated between Cagliari and Villa Simiusu.

“A taste of Sardinia”

My partner and I stayed at this hotel during the first week in September of this year. I took the liberty of locating it on Autoroute and google earth which showed the surrounding area beautifully. We hired a car for the week which was essential and it was about 40 minutes from Cagliari airport. The hotel is very clean and well presented and the pool (which we had to ourselves a lot of the time) was as good as it looks. As mentioned in previous reviews, the menu in the restuarant was as you'd expect, all in italian and whilst the staff were helpful, a phrase book and english/italian dictionary was invaluable. We thought the wine on offer (both house and bottled) was very good paticularly the Rose but the beer was a little overpriced. We enjoyed what was on the menu and alternated between the hotel and the aquarium/van gogh restaurants which were local. There is a 24 hour shop about a 5 minute walk from the hotel which was handy for cheap snacks and bare essentials. The staff at the hotel were polite and obliging particularly the assistant manager, Gabrielle, who did speak english and whilst appearing a little frosty sometimes, looked after her guests well. The room was nice and cool with good aircon and a TV which was handy for BBC World news (couldn't get world service). It was cleaned every day and whilst a little dark was ideal for our purposes. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back again, probably around the same time of year (nice and quiet).

“Highly recommended - a hidden gem”

My wife, two children (aged 9 and 8 yrs)and I stayed at the hotel for two weeks during August this year (2006). We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, made all the more special by the wonderful hospitality of all the Hotel staff, who were both professional and friendly. The Hotel successfully caters for both couples and families attracting guests from across Europe. The pool area is perfect for young families with a graduated slope to the pool floor allowing toddlers to splash around in the shallow areas. This is not a large hotel and there is no organised entertainment either for kids or for adults which is precisely what we were looking for. The Hotel did organise a couple of very enjoyable dinners including one based on local foods and another incorporating a Seafood and Suckling Pork barbeque with enough food to feed an army. It is a charming, tranquil and friendly hotel set in its own secluded grounds a short distance from the sea. Hotel Il Monastero is, as its name suggests, a converted Monastery which has preserved the beautiful architechtural features of the original building and in doing so has captured the tranquility and peace of its historical use.
