“Comfortable stay”
It is the second time we stay there and it is a very comfortable hotel walking distance to town spectacular view of the lake. The rooms are small so I suggest a suite. The breakfast buffet usually included in the rate is wonderful and the pool is so protected that you can sun- bathe even when it is windy. Only negative: The dining room is one of the saddest places I have ever seen. It looks like a soviet factory cafeteria. And from what I have been able to tell it is only open for breakfast.
“Eh...”
We needed a last minute hotel for Queenstown. We went to an internet cafe in town, looked up rates, and booked the hotel. From the outside the hotel was very impressive! When we got to our room, it looked worse than a Motel8. Paint was peeling in the room. Furniture was old and on its way out. The bed was flimsy and nothing impressive. All in all, you get what you pay for. This was a cheap hotel walking distance to downtown. We only stayed one night, so it was fine. However, I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here unless they just need a bed for the night.
“AVOID !”
not worth the promotional rate at all. Room a the back outdated and noisy. No air condition. Very old hotel
“Great place to stay. Eat somewhere else!!”
The hotel itself was a good experience, but the breakfast was AWFUL. I eat everything and by no means picky. I come from a land where the motto is, "if it's got four legs and the suns on it's back, it's fair game" and I couldn't eat the food. I don't think I've ever had eggs, sausage and bacon be so messed up beyond the point of being inedible. For $18 no less! Save your money and eat somewhere else in Queenstown. The room and the service, however, was excellent.
“Nice place.”
We really liked our stay at Rydges. We could walk to town and we had a very nice view of the lake from our room. They had a nice bar and restaurant. Breakfast was included with our room and it was very nice. We would (will) stay there again if we ever return to Queenstown.
“Great place, great view”
Great view of the lake, easy walking access to downtown and attractions, nice pool and spa, good restaurant and happy hour in the bar. We would stay here again.
“Would not stay there again”
The hotel had very few amenities. At check in there are no bellhops or doormen. Luggage -- you're on your own. Limited hotel parking and you're invited to pakk on the street. No valet service. The room was small and we had no convenient place to put our suitcase. The bathroom was the worst -- all walls were in the cheap plastic found in inexpensive showers and caulking installed in the bathtub /shower area had significant areas of mold showing. Towel racks were supported with make shift plywood rings. Overall the room was dated and in need of an upgrade. No concierge and the receptionist charged to make a dinner reservation. Buffet breakfast was inadequate with canned fruit as your only choice. Not even close to a 4 star hotel!
“good hotel poor service and breakfast”
nice location, clean hotel, clean rooms. however, the service was very poor. we had great service thru our entire trip in NZ however we hit Rydges and i felt like i was back in NYC. the breakfast also terrible... if you are looking for a clean room, nice view this place is it... but if you want more... there are other options...
“Resort cancelled our reservation 2 days before checking in”
This resort overbooked during our scheduled stay, so 2 days before we arrived, they contacted Expedia and asked them to inform us that our reservation had been cancelled. Unfortunately, since we had been traveling for the previous 10 days, we weren't checking our e-mail daily, and didn't have cell phones that worked in New Zealand, so we didn't find out until we tried to check in that they didn't have room for us. We made our reservation 5 or 6 weeks in advance, and I don't understand how the resort could honestly not have known they were overbooked until just a few days ahead of time. Additionally, the staff were very cursory with us when we asked about how the mistake had been made and how we were going to arrange for alternate accomodation. Overall, I was very disappointed in the resort's apparent lack of professionalism and organization. Fortunately, Expedia arranged for us to stay at Peppers, the resort next door, which was lovely and had very friendly, helpful staff.
“Nice view of mountains”
Thanks to the previous people who reviewed this hotel, I decided to pay the extra $15 a night and get a mountain view room. Definitely worth the extra cost. If you like mountains, the view from Rydges is fabulous! It is a bit of a walk, about 10 minutes at a good pace, to the town center, but it is a good location right on the lake.
