okay for the price

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: warm heater, electric blankets, location, bowling, comfy beds.
Cons: mold and condensation problems by the windows, new tv, bathroom spruce up
Location: on the base of coronet peak, short drive to arrowtown and queenstown
Had read previous reviews so we weren't expecting much. As previous people have mentioned, yes the hotel is terribly dated and needs a refresh. Old tv, condensation problem causing mold by the window etc. overall however, the staff were helpful, room was warm and was serviced each day AND we paid less for it than we would at a backpackers so can't really complain.

Very run down old hotel. Needs to be updated.

Very old hotel that needs a thorough makeover. Mouldy walls and dirty bathroom. Way to over priced for the state of it. Certainly won't be staying there again. Kitchen staff were lovely though.

Don't even think about it

Pros: Location to Coronet Peak ski field
Cons: Housekeeping services The entire West wing
Location: Coronet Peak ski field
Our room was old- mould on ceiling, paint peeling, no heater working, a wooden stick to flush toilet, tv was fuzzy and 1 channel. Stuff of nightmares. Considering it was snowing and it was freezing the heater wasn't working I requested another room. Initially they gave us a portable heater which had a burning smell and wasn't adequate to heat a room, I again requested a room change. After I said want a refund because basic services aren't being met, and this standard we are experiencing is backpacker quality not 3 star- magically we got a room change to the other end of the hotel which is worlds apart from the initial room. The new room looked like the photos on expedia and was of 3 star quality. Heater worked a treat after a long days outside on the slopes, electric blankets, a decent toilet, no traces of mould or peeling paint. However the housekeeping services were pretty limited. During the entire stay the floor, benches, bathroom were not cleaned- some days we would only get 1 towel when there was 2 people staying in the room. If you are only coming to queenstown to ski at coronet peak than this place is ideal as there is a bus service which will take you up the mountain daily. However to get anywhere else you are a long way out of town. If you get the room in the pictures it's definetly a good 3 star stay, that first room was a disgrace and believe because we booked through expedia and got a deal we got given that room. Demand you get a room in the EAST wing.

A never again experience

Pros: Bowling alley
Cons: Price, quality, service, remove all mould, heat properly, better access to rooms, housecleaning, more blankets and pillows for the beds
Location: Too far from city, nothing around
The room was dirty, mouldy. The curtains were hanging by a couple of hooks and didn't even close, window had so much mould it would be a health issue. No kitchen facility, with small cups, no wine glasses, shower went cold, stayed two night and had no housecleaning, had to take my own towels from trolley left in hall or else would have had to reuse the towels. Staff not very organised or friendly. Smelly and very cold in most parts of hotel. The distance from our room to the car was far too far away, very hard to carry luggage that far. Key would never work in lobby door. Only positive is that it had a bowling alley, would suggest that they made the price cheaper for the quality. Would not recommend to anyone, have never stayed somewhere so bad. Also no sky tv in rooms!!!

It is disappointing to read of your recent stay and I am sincerely apologetic for the issues raised. We are pleased to advise however that the property is only 4 weeks away from the commencement of a full hotel renovation. This will see nearly all the points raised rectified. i will certainly be talking with the team in regards to the other issues. I am lastly baffled as to why your room was not serviced by housekeeping as this is done daily to all rooms, so a bit confused by this? Thank you all the same for taking the time to write your comments.

Thanks for your comments. We find that our distance away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown central has its advantages in peace and tranquility.

the corridors smelled very bad, the building in general and the room in particular is very old and rusty. The swimming pool is not at all attractive.

Nice hotel but caters to winter season

Posted Feb 22, 2014
Pros: large rooms, quiet location in the hills
Cons: Front desk staff a bit more attentive
Location: Up in the skiing area; not much to do nearby in summer but a pretty 7-8 minute drive down the hill led straight to waterfront and town.
This looks to be a very nice hotel when running full steam for the winter skiing crowd; in summer, when we stayed, it seemed half closed down and was quite off the beaten track for the season (in the hills, away from waterfront and town). However, that very thing made it quiet and very good value; I'm sure it's an expensive place in winter. Huge room, nice view of hillside. Front desk staff were nice but not overly friendly (no getting up to greet....just sitting down as if not expecting many visitors). A very expensive hotel walking distance over the road had a lovely restaurant with a wonderful view and excellent food.
