Makanda By The Sea VisitPosted Feb 3, 2014
Pros: Everything was above our expectations.
Cons: We did not understand the location of the private beach and a map of hotel grounds in the room would be helpful.
Location: Many activities with transportation included can be scheduled by the hotel.
Makanda By The Sea is more than a hotel, these are private Villa's nestled in lush beautiful trees and flowers. Every Villa has a wonderful view of the ocean and the location gives you a morning view of many fishing boats going out. Your complimentary delicious breakfast is delivered each morning to your villa at your requested time. Meals prepared by their restaurant are equal to any five-star and can be delivered to your room or at the poolside/oceanview location. There are daily viewing of monkeys in the trees and an occasional sloth. There is also a panoramic view of the ocean from the pool. All staff go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Because of the privacy of the villa's, some do require several steps down the hillside. As the villa's are located high enough for ocean viewing, it is a hike to the beach. This is a very quiet, relaxing, great food, and wonderful service hotel.

Very Unique Hotel with Amazing views!Posted Jan 21, 2014
Pros: The staff, location and facility was all top notch
Location: Manueal Antonio national park, beaches. Plenty of good food!
We had a wonderful time at Makinda. The staff, location and facility was all top notch. Please note that this is not a 5 star resort of your typical fancy hotel. These are small villas each set up with their own breathtaking views and all the amenities you will need and more!

10 Days in Mid-May. GREAT!Posted Jul 17, 2013
Pros: The rooms and staff were excellant. There was not a single item that we requested that they could not deliver on.
Cons: All 4 doors that face the ocean should be able to be opened, not just the inner 2. This is monor but the only thing that comes to mind.
Location: Relaxing at the beachs was our #1 priority. We visited a number of sites between Manuel Antonio and Jaco. Jaco, we found to be too touristy
We enjoyed every moment in Costa Rica. The locals were friendly, we never felt we were in an uncomfortable situation. The food was great. The Bavarian Dark was ok but the rest of the local beers were sub-par. On a a scale of zero to ten, based on value of the trip I would say it was easily an 8.5+. The hotel experience was a 10. I would recommend the MbtS to anyone who likes the ocean view, privacy, jungle setting, and excellant staff all in one package.

Relaxing Private Bungalow with a Great ViewPosted May 8, 2013
Location: Manuel Antonio National Park is about 5 minutes away.
I highly recommend this hotel. The room was great. We stayed in a studio room. It had a small balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean. The pool was also very nice and relaxing. Every staff member was extremely nice and helpful. You can hike from the hotel to a private beach if you are in good shape. It was a short hike but there are a lot of steps going back up.

Most romantic spot!Posted Oct 24, 2012
Pros: The view, breakfast in your room, Randal by the pool
Cons: limited internet access
Location: Private but close to tons of restaurants and activities. Very secure area!
Absolute beautiful, view amazing, bed very comfortable. We went during"rainy season" and didn't know it. We were the only couple there and had the resort to ourselves, and the rain didn't bother us at all. Breakfast in the room-delicious! Randal down by the pool was a wealth of information and a blessing to our trip!

beautiful spotPosted Oct 20, 2012 on Hotels.com
This spot has beautiful views is very private yet close to lots of restaurants and shops as well. It has its own path to the beach but beware it is a bit of a workout I felt like I finished a Bikram class when I walked back up. Very helpful staff and yes the bartender is talented as advertised. Loved the room we did have to use a usb cable to use the intent in our room.

Great experiencePosted Aug 12, 2012
An absolutely wonderful place set in the middle of a lush rain forest. The staff was friendly and helpful in every way. They responded to every single request we had, and the experience was everything we had hoped for ... and more! We would definitely recommend this place if you like a peaceful, private, romantic setting.
