“Unique design. Just as advertised”
Interesting design. Satisfactory room.
“Poor Quality”
Old place needs upkeep
“Eh”
Eh it was ok
“Downtown Reasonable”
The hotel was your standard hotel. It was in downtown Raleigh. The bed was way too soft for my preference, so I had difficulty sleeping, but I know most people like soft beds. It was clean, and I needed the disabled access room and got it without a problem. The only problem there was that the seat in the shower was coming out of the wall, but when I told the hotel they sent someone to repair it immediately.
“Would stay there again”
Was alarmed by online reviews, but looks like they made some improvements. Was clean, bright, well-kept for an old hotel. Staff was courteous and helpful, maid service excellent. Pool drained and unused for years, would have been a definite plus as it was July and temperatures in the 90s. Great location near the new downtown area on Glenwood Ave (official downtown area on Fayetteville also close, but kind of dumpy, deserted... Rolled up sidewalks on the weekend). Hotel was reasonably priced, good deal for the money.
“We'll stay again.”
The Clarion's location was great for our visit to see our daughter who lives downtown. Lot's of good restaurants close by. If you like BBQ, try The Pit which is about 6 blocks south.
“It's showing its age”
The Clarion is definitely beginning to show its age. When I first arrived at the hotel, I sat at the front desk for 3 minutes before saying "Hello?" to anyone that may have been in the back to come help me. The attendant apologized and said he didn't realize anyone was waiting to checkin. The pillows were not comfortable at all. They were about the size of throw pillows but they were sort of hard and uncomfortable. Our toilet leaked onto the bathroom floor every time it was flushed. The next morning, gathering our stuff from the room, I noticed that the carpet was stained and looked to be the original carpet since the hotel was first built. It's definitely not a super fancy place to stay, all we wanted was a cheap hotel convenient to some bars and it served its purpose.
“I would pay little more for a better hotel”
Location was perfect as I was seeing a show at the Raleigh Amphitheater and it's within walking distance to the venue and to bars/restaurants. However, for $30 more I'm sure the other 2 hotels listed on the Amphitheater's website were much better quality. Clarion was OLD and carpet in the room wsa damp. If you are not petite, it'd be difficult for you to get into the bathroom. If I was paying about $40 cheaper, I could've put up w/the hotel given the awesome location.
“Average”
Kind of run down. Really needs to be updated. Internet poor. Great location and easy in and out to downtown.
“It is good”
I have no complains.
