Close to City Centre.

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: International telephone service.
Location: Restaurants, Shopping and Mt. Rushmore.
My son and I stayed here because it was close to the city centre. We did Mt. Rushmore tour and a lot of shopping. There is a shopping centre near by to purchase normal household things you may need and also food and drink. The "Firehouse Restaurant" is a great place if you are out and about with good value meals.

Great home base for the Black Hills.

Posted Sep 4, 2014
Pros: Two King beds & free breakfast, fridge & mic. Warm pool.
Cons: The pool lighting, it's a nice area during the day, at night looks like crap with the dingy dull lights.
Location: It's the Black Hills....too many things to list!
With two adults & two kids, we didn't spend too much time in the hotel, we left early and came back late each day. The fridge & microwave in the room for a week long stay is a must, it was well used for drinks & leftovers. The two king sized beds were real nice, more hotels should offer two kings rather than the standard two queens. The free breakfast did the job, saved us time & money otherwise we would have to go out each day and look for a place to eat. The WARM pool & two hot tubs were nice, although dingy/dimly lit at night, the only time we could go... at least turn on the underwater pool & hot tub lights, and I don't know why these places do not utilize in the new L.E.D. lighting technology for pool areas rather than the old ugly/dingy sodium vapour street light bulbs?? The central location was perfect since we had places to go in every direction!

The best stay ever.

Posted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: There was nothing to dislike: Everything was superb.
Cons: Nothing! Keep doing what is currently being done!
Location: Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Black Hills, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, Wall Drug.
The Howard Johnson's in Rapid City provided my family with the best hotel stay we have ever experienced. The staff was extremely friendly. The hotel was clean and inviting. The amenities were wonderful: The pool area was nice; the complimentary breakfast was delicious (and the staff made sure everything was well-stocked and fresh); and the nightly reception for guests was a nice touch. It felt like home, and I recommend staying here without any hesitance. Do yourself a favor and stay at this outstanding hotel when in the Rapid City area. It's a five-star experience!

Nice quiet hotel

We had a great stay at this very well maintained hotel. The breakfast choices are a little light on the fruit selection but the staff is very attentive and helpful.

Located near downtown Rapid City on the highway that goes to Mount Rushmore. Two blocks from the Berlin Wall memorial. Very nice facility and clean. Monday thru Thursday- complimentary drinks in the evening from 6:00-7:30. Good breakfast.

Nice hotel.

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Cons: Tubs need to be made safer with some non-slip features added.
Hotel was very nice. The complimentary wine event in the evening was a nice way to unwind at the end of the day. Rooms and pool area were very nice. Only issue with the hotel is that the bath tubs are not very safe as they are very slippery. 2 out of the 7 of us that stayed there slipped in the tub.
