Water Park is major drawback.

Pros: Only the poor staff who had to apologize for the shortcomings.
Cons: Better management which anticipates occupancy vs availability
Water Park is attached to hotel. Noisy kids abound, even after 10:00 PM. Stayed four nights, never had promised breakfast. Early rising families with "all you can eat" kids ate everything before 8:30 AM, even though breakfast was to be available until 9:00 AM. Result was four breakfasts at nearby McDonalds @ $10 per day added to our stay. Management should have anticipated the increased demand, or just wanted to save the cost of some extra donuts. The parking area was full by 9:00 PM. It was necessary to park on the public roadway leading up to the property.

Nice hotel near the airport and town

Pros: They took dogs. It was a good deal for the price.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: It is a 10-15 minute taxi ride into the downtown area. Lots of old buildings, bronze statues of the presidents, nice shops & restaurants, free trolley
We traveled from a home in Custer to La Quinta in Rapid City. The hotel was very nice and the staff was exemplary from the girls at check in/out to the wait staff and room maids. Couldn't do enough to help us. Although it had an indoor water park (and we didn't have kids) it was fun to watch the kids from the restaurant and we experienced no problems within the hotel due to this attraction. We would definitely use La Quinta again.

Understaffed & Disorganized...but tries hard

Pros: The food from the restaurant was good. The attached arcade and waterpark were fun for the family and convenient.
Cons: Clearly understaffed and needs more supplies.
Location: Lots of family, touristy things to do nearby.
We stayed in the hotel for 5 days. During that time we struggled to get towels. We would get 1 washcloth and 2 body towels every day. The front desk often had a long line. The free breakfast was nothing to write home about but was always behind and the wait/line was terrible. The bar staff was always overwhelmed with patrons. During our stay it rained heavily and the window leaked badly. I had to get up in the middle of the night, pull blankets off the bed and plug up the window. When I told the staff about it I ended up having to tell the story to three different people. The staff was always incredibly friendly.

Not worth the money, rude staff,

The hotel is way over priced for the comfort and conveniences. Many of the employees were rude and unprofessional (not all). The water park is a huge rip off whe you pay for two passes and the park closes within two hours, 8:00 instead of 10:00, even though you can use it the next day, that does no good whe you have to leave early the next day, they claim they mentioned it, but no one in the group heard it. The continental breakfast is boring, and congested, I saw way too many people spill juices, because of others backing into them, bad setup! Parking is terrible, the water park brings in a lot of locals. We had a banquet for 70, a 20% gratuity was added on each ticket. 70 meals at 10.00 each is 700, 20% of 700 is 140, a manager had the gall to ask for more, he said the server only got 65, I don't know how his math works! I gave an additional 30 just so he would leave the room. It would be different if we were actually waited on, they just delivered the food to the room, and dropped it on the table. We went and got our own food and bussed our own tables, and got our own beverages. Save yourself some grief and stay at the residence inn that is next door!

Close to very nice visitor center,

Nice hotel but there were dirty wash cloths from the previous patron left in our room. The coffee was not replenished and the room was not vacuumed daily. The lobby staff were very kind and made sure these things were fixed.

Sub par hotel overpriced for the experience

We stayed there the 3rd week of June 2015 and found the hotel a bit run down and dirty. The breakfast was horrible - rubbery eggs, not enough food for a sold out hotel. Blankets, towels, and pillows were all shorted during our stay. Friends stayed at the Comfort Inn and the Best Western - properties I will be looking into the next time we are there.

Pros: Clean rooms, great mattresses on both beds!
Employees did their best but were quite busy at front desk with check-ins. Hate to wait about 20 minutes...I was at the desk, but they had to make wait while they answered the phone. When there was 4 more behind me, they went ahead and checked me in (they had to let the phone ring). They were still polite.

Water park can be very crowded on the weekends. Great location! overall great experience.
