I love this old hotel. Rooms are small but location and amenities make up for that. It is fun to be right down town.

Great historical hotel in the centre of Rapid CityPosted Oct 26, 2014
Pros: Great location, great staff and pretty good facilities!
Location: In the centre of downtown/historical Rapid City
Great hotel with historical significance and pretty special from that point of view. Staff were great, you get discount coupons for coffee, drinks at the bar etc which was unexpectedly great. Room was clean and pretty comfortable, bathroom a little small and I think the walls are abit thin (but maybe that was because my room was one that was adjoining to another room). But still managed a good night's sleep! Would stay there again!

Fun and lively place to stay.Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: The charm and sense of history. The downstairs pub and the rooftop bar and restaurant although we didn't eat there. Lots more too but I'm out of space
Cons: Not sure about the mattresses. I had trouble sleeping but it might have just been me. Better showerheads. Wide TV channel choices and very good wifi.
Location: Mt. Rushmore is the overwhelming reason to come: I've wanted to see it for years. We went to Custer State Park, liked it very much.
My son and I loved this hotel. It's older (1927) and has loads of charm. It was nice to stay in a room that wasn't motel generic. A very pleasant trip back in time. Helpful staff. The hotel is downtown (if Rapid City has one) and, at ten stories, is the tallest building in town. the only building close in height is a grain elevator about four-five blocks away. The town has so little traffic I would have felt safe crossing a street blindfolded. Really were attracted to Rapid City which was a surprise to both of us, having heard nothing about the city.

Close to downtown.Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Close to downtown.
Cons: No hot tub.
Location: Close to Mt. Rushmore & Black Hills.
Top bar was closed, this happens often. Very noisy, stairway needs painting. Nice lobby.

Older building in downtown of Rapid CityPosted Oct 20, 2014
The hotel building is old so there are multiple issues I discovered in my room. I could not close the window tightly so there was a constant breeze there (fortunately it was not very cold outside for mid of October. The water pressure was low, the toilet was kind of semi-cloaked. So nothing but water could be flushed. I had to call a plumber to fix it. They did not provide either lotion or tooth paste. Honestly I expected it from a hotel for the price. The bathroom did not have forced ventilation. Another annoyance not really linked to hotel was working railroad nearby with some trains honking for few minutes close to midnight.

Vintage hotel where the action isPosted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: Not a cookie cutter hotel. Nice to stay in a place that has lots of history. 2 for one drink coupon
Cons: Noise from A/C
Location: Downtown, near the city square. Nice drive to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, & Custer park
A nice comfortable vintage hotel with some modern amenities. Comfortable bed and new furniture. The TV didn't work. Desk clerk recommended pulling out the electrical cord to "reset". Just like that: TV service. Guess this has happened before; maybe housekeeping should check it. Plenty of action is the bar area. Noise from A/C unit which was right outside the window.

Terrific rooftop restaurant! Liked everything but the mattress - both of us awoke with sore backs because it was worn out.
