Access to the beach is so closePosted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: It's right on the beach
Location: We had lunch and dinner at the Little Polynesian - great both times, we also lunched at the organic garden cafe
It was wonderful to relax on the beach, just outside our room. Request a ground floor unit, it really made the holiday. access to the beaches and the lagoon was good, you can snorkel at any time and tides do not limit the swimming or viewing of all the sea life. Not sure if we struck it lucky but no children, was so peaceful and relaxing

Beautiful location. Great beach.Posted Jun 15, 2014
Pros: The location is fantastic and the fact that you can snorkel right outside your hotel room, unreal!
Cons: New decor and linen is a must to make it more attractive.
Location: Moana Sands is a bit far from downtown but you can easily catch a bus from the hotel. Not too expensive either, 4 dollars each way. Or rent a car.
I still have Rarotonga's sea color and beautiful white sands beaches imprinted in my mind. We stayed at Moana Sands for a week. The hotel is not too bad but the location is fantastic. We loved it and will definitely come back. The decor and quality of linen wasn't the best but the service was pretty good. If you want to relax and do nothing, this is the place to be. If you like the nightlife, then forget it, there is nothing to do! The food is not very gourmet. A few good restaurants and coffee shops like Lbv. Breakfast at the hotel is very basic but their dinners were pretty good, right on the beach.

Nice hotel right on the beach.Posted Jun 9, 2014
Pros: I liked the fact that it was right on the beach, and we could snorkel and kayak when ever.
Cons: Not all, but some of the staff could put a smile on their face, apart from the weekend receptionist who was absolutely delightful and very helpful.
Location: Being right on the beach was excellent, choice of nearby restaurants was good. Easy hire of cars, bikes and local buses made it easy to get around.
Great break away from the daily grind. Lots of activities - not all of them cheap thou. Food is pricy but nice. Snorkeling was fantastic, as was the fishing and mountain walk, these activities were the beast part of the holiday.
Average accomodationPosted May 31, 2014
Pros: Location is spectacular adjacent to sandy beach and lagoon
Cons: Need a front office person with customer service
Coordinated travel and stay with this hotel however discovered I had arrived a day earlier than hotel was prepared for. . Arrived at the hotel at 1am in morning and not expected, placed in one of the rooms. The main bed had a collapsed mattress so an interesting nights sleep. Went to reception at daylight and the same person who had confirmed flight and accommodation details forgot to apologise and stated the reason was the Cooks are a day behind re time zone. Incredulously she then stated she would not charge me for the first nights stay - the one on the collapsed bed. Stay was fine although my room (assume all rooms) have no folder giving usual hotel and local details. Temperature is quite hot so rooms are very warm so had some fun trying to operate the air con remote. There are no instructions and the remote only has lots of very confusing symbols. Gently raised this to yes..the same receptionist as above - she stated there were no instructions so she could not assist! I gently stated that it would be helpful to guests if the Hotel could provide some simple instructions. Needless to say this never happened. Staff at Hotel are friendly and room was fine. I think it is overpriced though and if a hotel operates with a receptionist and organiser of stays who is 'absolutely shy' and should not under any circumstances be at the front office - guests are being severely neglected. Hotel is in a gorgeous location and view and adjacent beach great.

Nice place to stay, right on the beach!!Posted Feb 1, 2014
Pros: Proximity to the beach
Cons: General updating/service and clean Air Con
Location: not far from Muri where there are more affordable restaurants/cafes and a great beach but need transport
The hotel was nice, could probably do with a bit of updating. Room was ok, but a little tired. Air Con was average, could have maybe done with a service. Location was great but transport is a must to get to shops/restaurants. We didn't eat in the hotel other than continental breakfasts but plenty of people did. Was $30 for a main course. Beautiful beach with limited loungers and 3 complimentary kayaks. Snorkelling fantastic in front of hotel. Our last 3 days we were given a tray for breakfast the night before as they said the restaurant was closed due to low occupancy which was ok but would have preferred the restaurant option. Hotel staff were all very friendly, they loaned us a dvd player as I thought we were supposed to have one in the room and took some dvd's for our son to watch. The pictures on the website are very flattering and the room amenities description was slightly misleading (we had no dvd or safe that I was aware of). All in all, we had a great holiday and this is an affordable option which we would probably use again

Moana Sands ApartmentPosted Oct 7, 2013
Pros: Free upgrade to the apartment The view
Cons: There is an airport shuttle, but is not complimentary, & you don't get told that until afterwards
We had booked a studio, but got upgraded to the apartment. The thing to be aware of, there are 2 Moana Sands sites, several miles apart. The studios are with the restaurant & bar complex, while the beachfront villas & apartment are some miles away. Both all good, just realise it is not all on one site

Great location! The best beach at your doorstep.Posted Sep 22, 2013
If peace and quiet and relaxing on the best stretch of beach on the Island sounds like you then you'll love Moana Sands. It's no frills, tidy, clean and conveniently located with an amazing Restaurant on site. I would definitely stay there again and would happily work my way through the dinner menu at Sands.

DisappointingPosted Jan 5, 2013
Pros: Right on the beach
Cons: quality of hotel
Location: nice beach location but not much around area....definately need a scooter or a car to get around
Condition of the hotel was very disappointing with old tired surroundings. Doesn't reflect the pictures on website. food not good and very expensive for what you got. No bar opened during day for hot or cold drinks

Million dollar view at an affordable price.Posted Nov 11, 2012
Pros: Free kayaks anytime. Sunday night Bar-B-Que.
Cons: Night time restaurant held in Gazebo out the back felt a bit intrusive as it is open to the public.
Location: Titikaveka beach is amazing. Also close to the church. Clockwise and anti-clockwise buses stop out the front. Buy a book of 10 tickets for $25.
Best beach and snorkelling spot on Rarotonga. Friendly relaxed staff who are more than willing to offer advise or help when needed. Unlike other resorts, villas and motels every room has a view. No dark overgrown garden view rooms here. Small hotel with plenty of sun chairs for everyone. Get use to the term island time because one week of staying here and you will be so relaxed you won't want to leave.

Moana SandsPosted Mar 9, 2012
Was a clean and a great place to stay. Hotel staff were mostly friendly, helped out when an issue with the tv arose. Amazing food in the restaurant and happy hour prices were great. A nice, quiet and clean place to stay.
