“Once your inside I thought it was good”
When I arrived it was hard to find a spot to leave my vehicle to check in. Once I was inside the staff was very courteous. If you are driving a truck or other big vehicle, it will not fit in the parking garage. Vehicles only 6'1" can fit inside. There is limited oversized vehicle parking, I saw about 4 spaces, at the entrance to the parking garage. The lobby of the hotel was very nice and had a early 20th century charm. The room was comfortable as well as the bed. I would stay here again if I was in the area. One bad thing about the neighborhood, do not walk too far away from the hotel, the neighborhood appears to be on the rough side.
“Definately recommend.”
I was a little afraid to stay here because other people had given this hotel such a bad rating & I was travelling with my 2 sisters--(1 of which is a real germ-a-phobe and started screaming at me after reading the other reviews.) However I called the local Police Department in Reading to ask about the hotel & the surrounding area, and thanks to the very helpful Police Officer, he put my mind at ease. The hotel is very beautiful, just like the pictures show. There was a wedding going on the day that we arrived & there was another wedding booked for the day we were leaving so that should tell you how nice the hotel is. It is a very old hotel but looked like it just needed a face lift. (Our room could have used a new coat of paint and the bedspread & carpet could have either used a good cleaning or, if they are permanently stained, then replaced.) The employees were extremely helpful & friendly, the hotel bar was very nice & had a really nice crowd, the food was delicious & very affordable & our bedroom & bathroom was nice & large. (I can sum it up by saying that my sister actually thanked me for making such a great choice!) The surrounding area is fine in the day time but a little shady at night time (especially for 3 females) I would definately reccommend this hotel to others & I would definately stay here again.
“Good value for a nice hotel in Reading”
The room was clean and comfortable, with mini refrigerator and microwave.
“Vintage charm in downtown Reading”
We stayed here in October, and loved it. The hotel restaurant has superb service, the bar feels like you're stepping into a bygone era, and is quite busy at night. The views from our 18th floor window were stunning. The hotel is in a perfect downtown location, and just a few blocks away from GoggleWorks, a unique and huge arts center worth visiting. The hotel staff was courteous and went above and beyond every request. I'd definitely recommend this to others, and hope to return some day soon!
“4 star roach motel”
Don't go by the star rating!!!! on this one, this hotel is more like a 2 star. There were ROACHES!!!! AND STAINS!!!! EVERWHERE!!!! in the room. I checked in a at 1 AM, so was too tired to find another hotel in the area. The bed was shot. I will try to never stay there again.
“A classic hotel”
We stay in historic hotels whenever we get the opportunity. I read some bad reviews by people who had stayed at the Abraham Lincoln, but online hotel bookers gave it high marks. Decided to book it since we were only going to be there for 1 night. I really can't say enough about this place. You can drive into their parking garage and never hit the street. The lobby is beautiful. There's a nice lounge to relax in and have a beer. I didn't use their dining facilities (dined at the Ugly Oyster down the street) so can't comment on that. The room was big, with a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. There was a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and flat screen TV. (Baseball playoff time and the flat screen was definitely needed.) The people working the desk were great. Highly recommended.
“NIce, but not 4 star”
Nice hotel in Reading, but not 4 star. Relatively clean, comfortable and convenient.
“Too inner city”
The hotel was a little hard to get to because of all the one way streets around it.. My friend was very leery of the neighborhood because it was an inner city neighborhood and there were a lot of people just hanging out around the hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant and it was excellent, but there was only one other couple there. The towels were frayed and it just didn't seem to be a 4 star as it was listed. We gave up our second night and just left.
“Very nice hotel”
The Wyndham is a very nice hotel in downtown Reading- only downside is downtown Reading is nothing to write home about. Our sole reason for going to Reading was Daniel Tosh was doing a show at the Sovereign Center which is only a couple of blocks from the hotel. We stayed 3 nights. Reading is 1 hr drive from Philidelphia and 30 mins from Lancaster area where we spent a day on kayaks and golfing. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. We ate dinner at the bar and food was good and reasonable priced. West Reading looks to be a "nicer" area, but since we only use the room to sleep in and spent most of our time out sightseeing, that did not matter as much- close to the Tosh show and price is the reason we choose the hotel and glad we did. Staff was very nice and helpful.
“Not Impressed”
This hotel was not a pleasant experience. The area is very run down and it effects the hotel. The room was not clean and the bed was terrible. There really wasn't a restaurant. There was a bar that served food but they were very overworked. We could not get food for at least another hour. We left the hotel to eat but noone would tell us where to go. The desk clerk also had to deliver the food for the room service and there was only one chef for the hotel. It is a shame because I have stayed at other Wyndhams which were beautiful. I will not be staying at another one again.
