Lost reservation and dirty pool!

Our reservation through Expedia was not found by the staff so he had us simply make a new one. I'm hoping this does not lead to double charges. The pool was dirty enough that someone had written "clean me" in the grime on the walls and the hot tub did not work. Disappointed!

Main entrance was locked when we arrived late, but the side entrances are not kept locked. Green scum in the (warm) pool and the hot tub was out of order. Our room's bathtub was scummy and I needed to clean out the drain so the water would drain. Found a used band aid on the door stop in my room and a broken plastic knife in the vat of peanut butter at breakfast. The owner walked around in his pj's most of the day. Staff was friendly but hard to understand through the thick accents. I think it is run, cleaned and maintained by three Indian men. They are not able to stay on top of it all.

Dirty towels had been left in the room from previous guests and I even questioned our personal safety as outside doors were kept unlocked entire evening. Basic cleanliness scored a minus and the general manager was somewhat weird.

Pros: The outside looked fairly decent from the street.
Carpet, walls, door filthy. Hair all over the bathtub, floor not vacuumed, hair in sink. The whole building has an odd odor. Carpet was so dirty I didn't want to walk on it with bare feet. Door lock not secure. No secured entrance to the rooms. Quite a lot of money for what you get.

The toilet wouldn't flush, change needed to be adjusted. Room not very clean. Bed sheets didn't look clean. Back entrance inside wasnt clean, needed a good vacuuming.

Pros: Hotel staff was extremely friendly
Cons: Breakfast, Wifi, cleanliness, pool/gym equipment
Location: Red Lodge is at the East side of the Beartooth Highway/Pass, extremely beautiful!
Walking in the front door I was immediately hit by the smell of curry, or something similar. The attendant was extremely friendly to my 2 kids. He gave them each a quarter to buy some candy from the machine. Gym equipment is quite dated but I didn't use it to see if it worked. Pool was from 3-7 feet but looked really cloudy so we avoided it. Free continental breakfast was almost minimum to be breakfast, but was good enough we didn't need to go elsewhere. Wifi was terrible. General cleanliness was lacking. It looked like they were doing renovations and materials were just scattered around in random places.

Pros: Was very quiet for a Saturday night which was great.
Beds and room were good. Shower was hot and cold. Mat to put in bathtub was not clean. Breakfast was good. Coffee was hot.

Our stay in Red Lodge

Pros: It was inexpensive and one of the only rooms available when we booked it.
Cons: The building is a dive.
Location: Red Lodge isn't that big of a town and the hotel is in town. It would be a little bit of a walk to walk downtown but it is close to everything.
The condition of the building is not very good. Surprising the rooms were fine and clean and the building condition didn't seem to carry over to the rooms. It wasn't a bad experience but it looks bad when you pull in and first enter the building.

Kind of a dump, but comfortable bed.

Pros: Manager, bed.
Cons: housekeeping, toiletries, a screen door leading to the patio would've been nice
Location: Easy to walk to the main street area of Red Lodge, also, very close to the creek.
Well, the housekeeping crew certainly skipped a few corners when getting our room ready, the faucet plunger was broken as was the sliding door to the patio, but at least we had a patio! The proprietor was very friendly and pleasant and again, the bed and pillows were comfortable. This is a no-frills place (shampoo and conditioner are combined) and they only gave us 1 soap for hands and body. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but we could've done worse.
