“Would go back”
We got the type of room Expedia requested for us. Our main problem was the key would not open the lock right, we struggled with it everytime we wanted to get into our room. The maid left a cup of cigarette butts in a cup full of water on our balcony from the previous guests and it was there the 2 days we were there, she never threw it away. There was also a dirty towel on top of the clothing rack that was there when we arrived and we had no hangers but we leave our clothes in our suitcase since the bed bug scare so that was not a problem for us. There were gnats in the room we had to kill but they seemed to be a problem everywhere, we had them in the restaurants downtown also. The breakfast was good but they still need something like cereal. It was bagels, breakfast bars, pop tarts and danish with coffee and orange and apple juice.
“The staff stifles the beauty”
The hotel's location on the beach is fabulous and the rooms are lovely. The personnel at the desk range from surly to bored. The lobby is cold and consequently no one is ever seen there. The breakfast is put out on a table in a windowless room and is barely passable. There is a charge for Internet ( really a thing of the past). There is a large sign at the door which states "NO BATHROOMS , NO QUARTERS, NO PARKING " addressing passersby. I would recommend it with all these qualifications.
“Sort of a Typical Beach Hotel”
The Henlopen is a bit overpriced for what you get in the way of comfort and services, but it's about normal for a beachfront property. The room was clean, the amenities were few (the breakfast buffet is laughably bad), but the location is unbeatable. It's not as if there are a lot of alternatives in Rehoboth; there aren't that many hotels, since most visitors are weekly rentals at the hundreds of private condos and homes. I'd stay at Henlopen again if I was going there for two or three nights. Just don't go with high expectations. It is what it is - a clean, overpriced hotel on the beach.
“Good Hotel”
Good hotel. Our room was ready early, 11:30 am when check-in is 3:00pm. . On the far end of the boardwalk which is OK if you don't mind walking. Continental breakfast OK. Typical food...bagels, danish, coffee, etc. Overall, a good hotel at a fairly reasonable price.
“change the door locks!!”
Every thing is good except the door locks, the hotel uses real keys for the rooms and it is kind of hard to open the room doors.
“Good Location”
This hotel offers a good location at a competitive price. It could use some updating, but overall, it's OK. The continental breakfast is satisfactory for one morning, but not very appealing the second day.
“Nice Beach-front Hotel”
After seeing some of the reviews, we were skeptical about the hotel but it was the only one available for that evening. We were highly pleased with it though! The bed wasn't the most comfortable but the room was clean, we had an ocean view and the air conditioner blocked out all outside noise. All in all, it was a good hotel.
“will go back- have already referred to friends”
Right on the beach .Located on the North end of the Boardwalk.Very quiet to sleep.Easy to walk to center of the boardwalk to find action. NO parking hassles or cost. Everyone friendly and helpful. Cleaning crew did a super job-no leftover sand! Love the frig and microwave in the room. Breakfast was portable and quick. We kept fruit in the room frig to supplement breakfast. The veiw and convience of the beach was worth every penny spent on this hotel. We will go back again.
“Very good experience”
This was our first visit to Rehobeth Beach and we booked the Henlopen Hotel. I had some doubts due to the age of the hotel and the fact that there was no swimming pool. But being right on the beach trumped the fact that there wasn't a pool. We could walk from out hotel to the boardwalk and right onto the beach. The rooms were very clean and the ocean view from our room was great. The only negative that we had was that the free buffet breakfast needs a lot of improvement. It was all prepackaged stuff with no fruit.
“Two bad experiences”
Our door lock was defective when we arrived and we could not unlock it. Someone came to show us the 'trick' of opening this door. The next morning we could not get out and it took forever for someone from the hotel to open the door from the outside. In the meantime the children were getting very upset. The lock was changed later in the day. We had two beds and a pull out couch. The one bed's mattress was wet and smelled like urine. When I reported it, the mattress was turned over - not cleaned or replaced - without any apology. So I paid for two beds but could only use one. The room was not very clean with cobwebs in the corners and on the bed posts. The coffee and sugar were not replaced and we also had to report that there was not sugar in the breakfast room at about 8 a.m. (Breakfast starts at 7 a.m.) Although the hotel is very favorably situated next to the boardwalk (with undercover parking for one car per room) and we had a lovely view from our balcony, these incidents soured the trip and I will not go to this hotel again.
