Upgraded due to a past experience

Posted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: The pricing can't be beat and the pool area is very comfortable.
Cons: The rooms need some updating but are great for the price.
Location: This is located directly adjacent to downtown and the major hotel/casino properties so there is plenty to do.
We have stayed at the Sands several times and find it to be a great value for the dollar location that needs some TLC. On a past stay we had to change rooms several times at check in due to poor conditions in the rooms we were assigned. We received a nice email from hotel management with their apologies and an offer for a suite upgrade on a future visit. We requested it on this stay and it was granted with no hesitation. The suite was great and we really appreciated the offer and how easy it was to take advantage of. The hotel has a great pool area and all of the staff are extremely friendly. The food outlets are good and very fairly priced. The bar prices are also very reasonable. A great place to stay for the price especially if you are not planning to spend any extra time in the rooms which need a little TLC but are always clean and the beds comfortable.

We were in a dog friendly room. Carpets were stained, dirty and torn, drapes and walls had holes in them. Restaurant staff were very friendly especially Mel's dinner. Could be the worst accommodations we have ever encountered.

Pros: quite in rooms, employees were great
Cons: cleaning of carpets and chairs in rooms....Need nicer room facility for the buffet could be a lot nicer and servers also
Location: perfect for us this time.
it served our purpose for the time we had and why we were their. The Cabana Cafe was really good, as was the service...would have been there more but your hours didn't work for us..I will return to visit you again for a pleasure trip.

Cheap

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: The price.
Cons: It's just old. Maybe a remodel?
Location: Great location close to other casinos and night spots.
It's not the best hotel, but you can often get a room for extremely cheap. And the location is good to get to other casinos and such. The rooms are a bit aged and fragrant, but it's clean and comfortable enough.

Complete dump. This place should be bulldozed!

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: Nothing. The place needs to be bulldozed. It would serve more purpose as a parking lot.
Cons: Everything. Service, cleanliness, casino quality, food quality, it's just a nasty, disgusting, run-down pile of 1975.
Location: It's about a 3 block walk from the decent casinos, food, etc. Don't eat at this place, the food is disgusting, the atmosphere is depressing.
I got to Reno 4-5 times per year. I've stayed all over town, and I can say the Sands is one of the worst properties in the entire town. Don't expect much going in and you'll at least be able to feel like you got something for the money. The building itself is a mess. You park in a 6 story parking structure that has ONE elevator (slow, and about 3ft by 4ft interior) to take you into the hotel. When you get into the hotel, the check in is slow, they have various fees like destination fee. Destination fee for RENO?!?!? And they have a resort fee (apparently they're trying to be like Vegas). It's a way to nickel and dime you, but you have no choice. The rooms have TVs that turn on and present on demand TV, but they haven't had on-demand video in years, they're just too cheap to pay someone to reprogram their video screens. The rooms are basic to say the least. If they were clean and old, it'd be one thing, but they're dirty. I won't even take off my shoes in the rooms, and I've stayed in some pretty dirty hotel rooms. The casino is one of the worst in town. If you're looking for cheap, there are tons of alternatives out there. Avoid this place like the plague!

Not a good stay

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: The food and service at Mels Diner
Cons: Turn down the music in the casino in the mornings! It was very loud and disturbing
Location: Casinos and good restaurants all over in walking distance
I checked in to get the room, with a king bed and smoking permitted, that I had booked through Expedia. When I went to my room it was a mess! It had not been cleaned. I called the front desk and I was told I could wait for housekeeping to get there or I could get a different room. I asked how long it would take for housekeeping to get there, the receptionist told me that she would transfer my call to housekeeping and did so immediately. The lady I spoke with in housekeeping said she had no idea how long it would be. I asked if she could send someone quickly because I was tired after a long day of driving. She said she couldn't get anyone there soon. I went down and asked for another room. I was given one with 2 queen beds. I pointed out there was only me and I didn't need 2 beds. The person told me I could take that room or wait for housekeeping to clean the room I was originally assigned. Because I was so tired I too wait so I took the 2nd room. The room was clean but had obviously been abused in the past. The carpets were worn and pulling up in spots. The furniture was chipped and cracked. At least it was clean and I needed to shower and get some sleep. I went ahead and kept the room for the 3 nights I had booked. Otherwise the stay was ok. The food was good, especially at Mels Diner.

Slow check-in with someone whom I don't think knew basic computer operation or logic, Filthy carpets, let me repeat that, FILTHY carpets! No bedspread and the smallest pillow you can imagine. Old and dated in every way. We won'tbe returning.
