Average all the wayPosted May 4, 2015
Pros: Mel's Diner is great and one of the waitresses is fantastic (Cindy). The buffet was a good deal. Sands is located within walking distance.
Cons: The staff friendliness was hit or miss. A great waitress at Mel's, then a bad waiter at Mel's. A great roulette dealer, then grumpy roulette dealer.
Location: Walking distance to the 'strip' and other hotels, the Reno sign, theater, and river walk. Not much shopping around.
The hotel was average in cleanliness, friendliness, and location. We had an even mix of nice and helpful staff, combined with a bad waiter and a grumpy roulette dealer. There was no blanket on either bed and housekeeping took about 30 minutes to bring them to us. The bathroom was never fully cleaned, however we got fresh towels every day. The air/heater in the room didn't seem to work correctly- we were comfortable enough. Big disappointment that they pool wasn't open, even though it was 85 degrees one of the days. I'd stay here again if the price is right- it wasn't bad, just not great.

Nice Hotel, Friendly StaffPosted May 4, 2015
Pros: Staff, Casino
Cons: Room tv's
Location: Next to downtown Reno, Truckee River
You cant beat the price. The casino at the hotel is great, we played many hours at the roulette and blackjack tables as well as the slots. Selected a non-smoking room and it was clean and comfortable.

Sands Regency was not up to expectationsPosted May 3, 2015
The room was underwhelming but that usually doesn't bother me, as long as I have a bed to sleep in with. The room was pretty spacious, we ended up with a corner room. Problem was, they didn't have ANY soap whatsoever in the room, not even a soap at to wash my hands with after using the restroom. That has never been the case in ANY hotel I have ever stayed in and I travel 4-5 times a year. Then, we found that the hotel cooling system was a cooler! You would think that central air conditioning would be used in a hotel of this size. Turns out my air conditioning system didn't work. All it worked as was a fan, and after a shower the whole room was uncomfortably hot. We had to hold the door open because the hallway was cooler. Lastly, I went to reach for one of our glass cups with a little white paper covers on it and when I looked into the class I saw a white residue all over the bottom of the glass. Looked that the same residue that is left behind in a sink after brushing your teeth and spitting on the toothpaste. Needless to stay, I will never stay at this hotel again.

REally needs redoing, but, comfortable bed.Posted May 1, 2015
Pros: Floor to ceiling window, comfortable bed, good climate control.
Cons: Cleanliness! Furniture repair!
Location: In downtown, walk to casinos, river.
3 sheet system, so a little chilly but clean bedding. Floor filthy. Knobs missing, radio on floor, lamp didn't work etc. Pretty old and funky.

Noisy, smelly, seedyPosted Apr 29, 2015
Location: Close to better hotel/casinos.
I booked for five days but stayed only two! Cigarette smoke permeates the entire hotel! Seedy characters hanging around at all times. Food was OK; Staff was OK. Would never stay there again though. Management reluctant to refund the three unused days. Still waiting to find out if stated compliance was only lip service.

Pros: Conveniently located.
Cons: Update things. More electrical outlets. More comfortable beds.
Location: Location and availability of things to do are great.
Conveniently located for my needs. Bed could have been more comfortable. Other than that it fit my needs just right. Completed my business in town and just needed to be able to get more rest before heading out the next day. For those staying at the Sands Regency be sure to check out Mel's Diner. Great food and great atmosphere.

ugh!Posted Apr 28, 2015
Pros: It was close to the bowling stadium which is where we were going. Also has an all night diner attached.
Cons: What, if anything, didn't need improving?
Location: near the bowling stadium and the other, nice casinos
Hotel is old and smokey. Cigarette smoke filled our non-smoking room from our neighbors during the night. Since it's old everything in the room needed updating. TV remote didn't work. Free internet, well it was free, but so slow nothing ever happened. Dirt/dust rings on the air conditioning unit. Lots of cleaning needed. Worst of all the elevator sounded as if a 747 was landing every 30 seconds or so and we weren't even the closest room to the elevator. Won't stay there again even if it is the only thing available!

Great hotelPosted Apr 28, 2015
I had a great time staying at the sands. I was In Reno with family who stayed at the Harrah's hotel. First I was disappointed that we couldn't stay there, by the time we left I was so happy we DIDN'T stay at Harrahs. The sands is small which I like, restaurants were great. My husband had a $9.99 prime rib at the Copa bar that looked and smelled amazing! Our waitress was also amazing! I'm so happy we had a good stay at the sands, will definitely be back!
