Sands Regency Casino Hotel

Posted Sep 17, 2014
This is a great hotel to use as a base to explore the local attractions of Reno. If you are an older, quiet loving guest, try to book in the towers away from the pool area, as the management is trying to attract the university crowd with pool parties that tend to rattle and thump the tower rooms facing the pool area. The main casinos on Virginia are all within walking distance. Even the public library, with a nice atrium can be reached by strolling. Don't miss the Bowling center with an informative hall of fame. UNR can also be reach by foot.

Good value for our Reno Air Race trip!

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: The location of the Sands Regency is really convenient for those that enjoy other entertainment within walking distance.
Cons: The casino/hotel is older and could use a face lift but it's still kept up very well for it's age.
Location: Love going to dinner/gambling at the other casinos for a change of pace ... all within walking distance!
Good location, fast registration check-in and out, comfortable clean rooms and a nice atmosphere.

Smells like cigarettes, airport shuttle worthless.

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Shuttle only comes every hr from 6am to 11pm. On arrival it was late, and had a 6am flight out, so no help. Mel's Diner is good. But other food was overpriced and lame. Everything smelled like smoke.

Bad service, not clean, no coffee in rooms.

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Beds were ok but room was generally not clean. Found no bath towels. First hotel I ever saw with no coffee machines inside rooms. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone expecting some standard.

smokey

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: I felt a lot better when i left. I won't go back.
Location: prime objective Reno airshow.
typical casino full of smoke, had to go thru casino to get to elevators to get to room, no bar fridge unless you pay for it. steak and shrimp special for $9.99 is garbage as well as the (shrimp served luke warm). had a fire alarm and had to take the stairs, they were full of cig butts and garbage. Train noise will wake you up a few times a night.

Noisy, no longer a value

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: The room....Clean, and larger than other hotel rooms in the downtown reno area.
Cons: Noise level in the casino....and, actual "perks"
Location: Reasonable location if it were still a value. The only thing one can do, is tour Virginia St. Reasonable dining at Siris Casino and Club CalNeva.
Checking in took a great deal of time, only one clerk. The Sands under the old owners never charged a "resort" fee. The listing under Expedia, said there was no "resort" fee, Yet, I was charged this fee, supposedly to cover health club, no interest there. free standard wifi (isn't this an oxymoron? a charge for "free" wifi? Airport shuttle, most people drive in, covered self parking. (this was closed and unavailable) printing boarding passes, etc, etc, ad nauseum. None of these services and such are used by the majority of customers. Their players "cards" and coupon book are a joke. One could get 50 cent coffee in the morning with their card....no longer, its $1.62 now. The coupon book saves you $95.00? (Only if you spend approximately $300 to get it.) I use to gamble in their casino...now, however, the noise level is almost painful, with their incessant blaring music videos. the decibel level has to equal that of jet aircraft, I could honestly not tolerate more than 15 min, in the casino area. Overall the Sands is no longer a bargain. One can do much better at two other hotel/casinos closer to Virginia St. The new owner would be well advised to return to the old practices and prices, which made the Sands a real bargain.

We LOVE the Sands!!!

Posted Sep 14, 2014
Pros: Everything!!!
Cons: The hotel is in the perfect spot, very close to the strip and within easy walking distance from it all.
We had 8 family members staying at the Sands and we had a fantastic time!!! The rooms were clean and comfortable but the best part of our stay were the hotel staff. Everyone we encountered were super friendly, nice and honest. They all were very focused on making sure we had an enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back very soon!!!
