Wonderful setting, basic room

Posted Nov 17, 2013
Pros: Free internet, setting
Cons: Rooms could be more modern. Dingy bar and reception area.
Location: Near downtown Retford.
The hotel is an old manner house with beautiful gardens. The room we were in was in an annex called the cottages. Very steep stairs to climb, with luggage. Room rather small, with tiny bathroom. Nothing like the pictures. But - free internet, and good breakfast. I would recommend the smoked haddock with poached eggs.

Service and Quality

Posted Dec 11, 2012
Pros: The service and food in the dining room
Cons: None
Location: quiet location on edge of market town of Retford plus handy for A1 main road
Room of excellent standard as as it was a busy party night when we arrived we were put in a room away from the noise. On both nights enjoyed wonderful dinner with excellent head waiter. Service exceptional. Food well above quality expected.

Sherwood Forest

Pros: Friendly staff and standard of the hotel.
I chose this hotel for its location in the area I was visiting. It was easy to find and easy to park and all the staff were helpful and welcoming. My room was well appointed, comfortable and generally quiet. I stay away often and found it easy to rate this hotel as it exceeded my expectations plus was good value for money. Having used the bar, restaurant and facilities in general there were no disappointments. I will likely be staying again if I return to the area.
