Good location

Posted Mar 7, 2015
Pros - Great helpful staff, great breakfast, quiet, fast elevator, location good right on popular shopping street, restaurants nearby, close to ocean, Cons- Needs updating, carpet worn, shower very small with slow drain forcing you to stand in water. Shower door off the track and some mold in the grout. Very small bathroom. Hard to use. No control over room temperature. Was our first stay in Iceland and we stayed here three nights. Even though I would not stay here again, the good things about the hotel gave us a great time in Iceland anyway.

Just what we needed in a central location

Posted Feb 16, 2015
Pros: Location and breakfast and all day hot drinks included
Location: Perfect location. Within a 10 minute walk from the harbour and Grey Lines tour office. Also a 10 11 supermarket nearby.
Perfect location just in the middle of the main shopping street. A little noisy on a Saturday night but I took ear plugs in anticipation of this. Breakfast was plentifull (bread, boiled eggs, meat, cereal, fruit) and help yourself. The breakfast room was lovely and bright even in the dull weather. Hot drinks were available all day and since there is no official lounge this is the place to relax in the warmth. The hotel staff were really nice and helpful, pointing us in the right direction. The room was great, slightly outdated. Quite big since we had a twin room. We used the tea and coffee facilities in the room daily after a bit of shopping. The bathroom was lovely and clean. Couldn't fault our stay. Would definitely book again.

Overbooked!

Posted Feb 13, 2015
On arrival we were informed that the hotel was overbooked and we were to be transferred to a sister hotel. Initially we were dismayed. However we were transferred by free taxi to a hotel which I suspect was even better!

In the City Center!

Posted Feb 12, 2015
Pros: Staff was helpful in recommending places to eat, arranging tours, etc. Breakfast each morning in the sun room was lovely and location perfect!
Location: The hotel is in the center of everything, we walked everywhere, no need for a rental car unless traveling to other parts of the island.
Great staff, great room, excellent location if you want to be in the Center of it all, including the very active nightlife! We had a room facing the main street and while we were aware of the nightlife noise when we were awake it never woke us or kept us awake as others have stated; besides we chose to be in the center of it all and so some nightly noise should be expected! Highly recommend!

Comfortable and modern. Good breakfast

Posted Feb 11, 2015
Pros: Nice clean appearance and comfortable beds. Very quiet - nice breakfast. It was very conveniently located in the downtown area.
Cons: The room lighting is a little odd to control. Need to watch out for beginning of mold in the showerstall. Room is small but that's unremarkable.
Location: In the center. Lots of restaurants but it's entirely tourist. We ate at Ikea - food's fine and a lot cheaper but ambiance strictly formica!
I wasn't expecting nearly as much as i got in this hotel. It was very clean and comfortable with cozy radiators and good windows. Bathrooms modern and clean with good shower and fixtures - well lit. Sufficient storage for a short stay and extraordinarily comfy beds - the most comfortable of over half a dozen in our 2.5 week trip. The elevator is a half-flight up from the street which is a bit of a struggle with heavy cases - but level with the floors - so just one small push and you're done - but it wouldn't be suitable for the mobility-challenged. The breakfast room is attractive and the food good and plentiful. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. I had the impression that nobody was staying there - it was very quiet and it was a screaming freezing sleet-laden day outside in off-season. Lo and behold the breakfast room was really busy with folks. Either they were uncommonly quiet or the soundproofing in the hotel is extraordinarily good. Parking would likely be a problem in very busy periods but there are meters that operate during the day on the street with parking garages nearby. If you're coming in on the bus this is not, of course, a problem.

Nice hotel, great location

Posted Feb 11, 2015
I stayed at this hotel in February 2015, it's a small hotel, very central to shops and bars, rooms are small but adequate, kettle and mini bar, beds are very comfortable, only thing is no milk is provided with kettle in room. Breakfast is continental very small choice, but overall great hotel would stay again. Staff are fantastic and always more than happy to help.

In the heart of the shops

Posted Feb 2, 2015
Pros: Location mainly, but comfortable and ideal for a short 4 day stay.
Cons: Main hotel entrance enlarged with off street reception, but unlikely this could be achieved given the layout and the pharmacy located right next door
Location: Excellent grilled fish restaurant only 3 mins walk away. Good sports bar 30 yards away.
Very centrally located in a main shopping street, although it is one way and makes it difficult for large coaches to pick up and drop off. The hotel entrance is very small and the reception is on the 2nd floor (one floor up), so not ideal. However, staff very friendly and helpful, rooms clean and good facilities and the buffet breakfast fine. Only 7 mins walk to the main harbour and the main offices of Gray Line, one of the key excursion operators. Thoroughly enjoyed the excursions we booked - The Golden Triangle, Blue Lagoon & Northern Lights but the Whale Watch was a disaster! Didn't see any whales (not guaranteed anyway), but I was pretty unwell and my partner sea sick on the boat journey. Not for everyone and also exepensive. Overall, lovely people and Reykjavik is a fine city. Amazing landscapes as you venture outside the city - almost moonlike with vast areas of uninhabited land, ideal for some filmmakers.

A very enjoyable stay

Posted Feb 2, 2015
Pros: Location, friendliness of staff. Ease of booking trips at reception.
Cons: It is a pity there was no lounge to sit and chat to friends. A handrail up the steps to the front door would have been safer for me!
Location: Perfect location. Lots of excellent restaurants nearby and in easy reach of the sea front, concert hall and cathedral (well worth a visit)
Very well situated hotel in the centre of the old town. Not at all noisy as suggested on Trip Advisor, although we were there in the winter so windows were closed! Adequately sized bedrooms with tea and coffee making facilities. Help-yourself tea and coffee in the breakfast room 24/7. Delicious breakfast - home made flapjacks included!
