“A comfortable place to stay...”
Hotel Bjork is one of those places that you will find to be inexpensive, desirable, and a comfortable place to stay at. You will find the hotel staff very friendly, willing to book your Icelandic tours, help with getting you a cab locally or a bus to the airport, and they are up to suggesting where to eat. The staff will answer any question you have and even suggest a doctor if needed. The room was clean, and had a fresh smell (except when the heat came on and you smelled sulfur for a bit). The bathroom was clean, the sheets were crisp and white on the bed. The hotel is very gay friendly (several gay couples staying at the hotel commented on their stay). The location of the hotel is close to downtown (within a 10 minute walk) and close to other attractions. The restaurant in the hotel had a basic complimentary buffet, and enough to satisfy you for the morning. The dinner and lunch menu will suffice your Icelandic culinary needs with fresh fish dinners with locally grown produce. You will find the hotel and the surroundings very quiet. Sometimes too quiet. The scenary from the hotel rooms arent that great but not a disadvantage. There is also a 24 hour grocery store 2 blocks away from the hotel if needed and a boutique cheese store for your cheese needs. Overall, this stay at Hotel Bjork was favorable and to my needs. This hotel made my trip to Iceland very memorable. One thing, the hotel is NON-SMOKING. A drawback for smokers.
“Good service, but a bit of a walk from city center”
This hotel is about a 15 - 20 minute walk from the city center, which isn't that big of deal, unless it's raining. Then it becomes terribly inconvenient if you need a place to eat at night. The only restaurants around the hotel are the one in the hotel (which is pretty good) and Ruby Tuesday. Reykjavik appears to be a drunken party town on the weekend, so if you need some peace and quite away from the city center, this isn't a bad option. It's on the pick-up list for all the major tour companies, so it's a good hopping point for all of your day trips out into the Icelandic countryside.
“Hotel Bjork was great!”
This hotel was more than we expected! Sometimes small hotels in Europe are a bit dingy, but the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable, we had a view of the sea, the breakfast buffet was really great, and the shower was actually a comfortable size and water didn't leak all over the flood. The location is a bit out of the way from the major downtown, but it's a quick 15-20 minute walk to all the main spots in downtown Reykjavik and the airport buses drop you off and pick you up (no pick up with fly bus but the bus depot is a 25 minute walk). The great thing about being out of the way is that the street is extremely quiet at night. Oh, and the hotel has free and fast wifi. We would definitely stay here again!
“Great experience!”
The Hotel Bjork was a very good choice. The Expedia pricing was lower than those quoted on other travel sites and the updates and confirmations we received were well appreciated. The front desk personnel were always friendly and helpful. Our room had a great view of the water, was very comfortable, and had a hot water maker for tea/coffee. There was an included breakfast buffet which was European (no waffles, omelets, pastries) and included assorted meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, cold cereal, vegetables, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee. The free inroom WIFI was great! The hotel location is just about a 5-10 minute walk from the main shopping street and is one block from a 24/7 grocery store - nice and convenient. There are lots of restaurants on the main shopping street as well as a Ruby Tuesday just across the street. The hotel does have an elevator which came in very handy for getting to the 3rd floor with 3 large bags. The tours we signed up for did pick ups and drop offs right to our door - very convenient. I would definitely recommend the hotel Bjork for anyone traveling to Iceland.
“Good night at good price”
Hotel Bjork is a bit off the main drag in Reykjavik, but you can easily walk to the city center attractions in a few minutes. This might be a boon to those who want to avoid the legendary Reykjavik night life on weekends. The hotel was comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. I appreciated the overstuffed pillows only when my next hotel (in another town) had really atrocious ones! Had English TV channels as well as local news. Breakfast was quite good -a full array of Scandinavian breakfast foods- in the adjoining restaurant. All in all, this was worth the price I paid; better than staying at the hostels, but not shelling out as much money for the swank hotels. I would definitely stay there again!
“friendly and considerate staff”
Well-run hotel, accomodating front desk staff, good breakfast is included, near downtown but a short walk away, quiet neighborhood consisting of mostly commercial buildings (health club, stores) and apartment buildings. No rooms smallish but clean, no scenic view from our room.
“Avoid unless there are no other choices”
Although the hotel is in a nice location, there are 2 major detractors with this hotel are (1) the friendliness of the staff and (2) the amenities in each room and the size of the bathrooms. First, you will receive no words of welcome or smile when you check in. I didn’t hear a single good morning, welcome back or any other sense of appreciation from any team member of the hotel to any customer. The lighting in the rooms is very poor, there is no lock on the doors, there is no safe in the rooms (a real issue for computers, passports, etc), no side chair and the size of the shower is about 20 inches by 20 inches and it is almost impossible to bend down (it is smaller than any shower on any cruise ship I have been on). I recommend you stay at the Hilton down the street as the conditions are much better and the staff really wants to serve you.
“lesson in friendliness”
the hotel front desk staff was unfriendly- and rather cold-when we asked for assistance we were met with an unfriendly response- that was short and almost curt...otherwise, the hotel was very comfortable.
“satisfactory”
The hotel was satisfactory. The location was great. It was within walking distance to the main shopping area.
“Friendly hotel in Iceland”
Good and friendly service but location is a bit far from downtown.
