Central Hotel

Posted Mar 4, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Shampoo and conditioner replaced daily.
Location: Fab location - 7 mins from one of the main high streets which leads up to the main church. Recommended pub: The Celtic Cross!
Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff were very helpful and amenable. Breakfast was included: considerable spread, including scrambled egg and bacon; toast and jams/marmalade, fresh orange juice, coffee... this is included in the price, which we didn't realise. Hotel room was plain, comfortable bed with tv, safe included in room. Bathroom was clean - toilet was very close to the wall, which was a bit odd. Shower powerful and most welcome after a day in the cold. Small extras like shampoos and conditioners, were left on the first day, but not topped up, which was somewhat disappointing. Towels too were not replaced as a full set. Downstairs there was a bar, which was busy on Saturday night - perhaps locals visit? Didn't use this, but it looked cosy and snug. Hotel was about a 7 minute walk to the main road, which took you to the church at the top of the high street. Well placed hotel and would recommend. We stayed at the front of the hotel, which could be noisy at night at the weekend ... not much noise insulation in the rooms, so could hear chatting next door, but that's life I guess. Ask for a room at the back then you won't hear the noise of traffic or late night callers. No problem with tours, they pick you up from hotel in smaller buses and then you change at local bus station. On the return trips got to see some other hotels, and we felt thankful we weren't staying there, but here. Just the job - would recommend on the whole.

A gallery at your hotel

The Holt is located on a small street a five minute walk from the main shopping street. The hotel houses Iceland's largest personal art collection. Staff was always polite and very helpful. The backside lower rooms are a bit noisy - delivery trucks, kitchen staff on breaks, etc. Rooms are small but adequate. The restaurant serves fantastic food but is very expensive. The breakfast provided by the hotel was large and catered to all tastes.

Great location for a family holiday

Very conveniently located in a quiet area yet only a few minutes stroll to all the main sights in Reykjavik. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful and keen to help us get the most out of our stay. We had a suite with comfortable king size bed and a large sofa bed in the living room which our 13 and 10 year old children shared very happily. Nice to be able to fold the sofa bed up during the day and have the use of a sitting room.

Nice hotel in centre of older part of Reykjavik

Posted Feb 12, 2015
Pros: Its position in Reykjavik, warm comfortable rooms, helpful informative staff.
Cons: Can't think of anything
Location: In the older part of Reykjavik with small boutique like shops. The striking cathedral is nearby and you can go up the tower on weekdays.
The hotel is very warm and comfortable with excellent service from friendly well informed staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were very efficient with bookings and amendments. They also gave you quick updates on changes. I would certainly stay there again.

Good choice in Downtown Reykjavik

Posted Feb 12, 2015
This is a well sited hotel 5 minutes walk from the harbor area and close to shops and sights. It is well priced and of good quality - not 5 star but neither will you pay a 5 star price. It has an older feel with lots of wood and the walls are covered with Icelandic art. I stayed in February and it was fairly quiet, which is perfect for me since I am not a party person. I found the staff helpful and pleasant. I would stay there again.

Good hotel at excellent location

Great located hotel with a good spirit. The whole hotel is filled with varied art pieces, like a very nice gallery. Cosy and comfortable feeling without the whole hotel. Nice but simple buffébreakfast. All necessities included, and gluten free bread if asked for. A minor detail, there was fish oil for enhancement of health. And it really tasted fish! Gym/exercise room was a bit of a disappointment since it only consisted of 2 cardio machines, but voucher for World Class Gym provided by reception if asked for. Note that the gym is located 3,4 km from the hotel. An hotel that otherwise had the perfect location in the middle of old Reykjavik with all attractions within a reachable distance. Possible to get transfer included in bus ticket from Keflavik airport. Great service. Overall very exited about both hotel and the city of Reykjavik and Iceland. Well worth a visit!

EXCELLENT HOTEL

Posted Feb 4, 2015
Pros: The whole experience.
Cons: Nothing that we can think of.
Location: Very close to the centre of Reykjavik with many of the sites only a few minutes walk away.
Could not have picked a better hotel in an excellent location in the heart of Reykjavik. A short walk to the main shopping and eating area. The hotel staff were excellent. Breakfast, which was included in the price, was ideal and just what was required prior to the long days driving around Iceland.

Only ok

Posted Feb 1, 2015 on Hotels.com
Did not love it. As a top rated hotel in the city, I was really disappointed. Hotel is old and in need of some serious updating. Our bed mattress was terrible - like sleeping in the middle of a taco. Even with the furnace completely off, the room was too warm for comfort - we kept the window open in January! Room faced the street, so cars driving by in icy slush were noisy. Ultimately didn't make for good sleep. We should have requested a room change but coming home at the end of excursions, we were exhausted and opted to stick it out. Bathroom was small, but otherwise reasonable. Breakfast was pretty decent: eggs, bacon, some fruit, lovely breads, yogurt, cheeses and cold cuts. Service from one of the front desk workers was great - blonde guy with longer hair. Super, super helpful. Other staff were only ok. Location is ideal. Off the main roads, but very near the restaurants and bars - close enough that we walked everywhere even during bad weather.

Hotel Holt

Staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived early and the person at the front desk offered to call us as soon as a room became available. He told us about breakfast and a bakery just two blocks away. Before we left to do some sightseeing a room became vacant and he gave it to us, 8 hours before we were due to check in. Breakfast was very good lots of choices and well presented. Staff helped with car rental, restaurant recommendations / reservations and freely gave out maps highlighting routes etc. Overall very good to excellent would stay there again
