'Motel' en route to Golden CirclePosted Aug 26, 2013
Pros: Views and convenience!
Cons: Cleaning more thorough !
Location: See above
We had the 2 spacious rooms 12 and 13 overlooking the lovely mountains and sky. Cloud watching is a must! There was a kettle and 2 mugs and a spoon provided, we bought our own milk , decafe tea and quality coffee . We needed the comfort of hot drinks after wet days. The rooms are a cross between Holiday Inn and Premier Inn. We always bring our own shampoo and body wash so it was not inconvenient. The simple same breakfast every morning were adequate and the hot porridge was delicious. The staff were helpful when we needed help. Very convenient position with 2 supermarkets , pharmacy, bakery, KFC , Subway, a very good bar come restaurant and 15 minute walk away a lovely local coffee bar near the wool mill shop. We hired a car ,loved it . Petrol similar price to Uk . Compared to London traffic the roads are quite 'empty' and easy to navigate . Beware of strong wind. The driving conditions in the mountain are similar to winter driving in Uk ! It's about 30 minutes drive from Reykjavik and we loved parking in Harpa, blue glass concert hall on the sea front .Costly parking but the toilets and being away from the wind and rain is worth it!! Make sure you have lots of coins!!!! The noodle bars on the road to cathedral are fab! The Thai restaurant opposite the old harbour is very good for simple meal! If you go whale watching ( fantastic exoerience!) be aware that the boat gets tossed about a LOT! So if you are sea sick you have been WARNED! Geysers ,waterfalls and Blue Lagoon (€40)

Great breakfast! The rooms are small but nice. They use floor heating so there's no temperature control in the room and one night, the room was very hot (so we had the window open at night) and another night, it was too cold. Even after I asked to turn up the heating a bit, the room stayed pretty cold and uncomfortable. But other than that, the hotel was nice.

Perfect base to explore from and relax inPosted Jul 2, 2013
Very spacious room and welcoming comunal areas with a relaxed atmosphere and one was made to feel at home. Very clean throughout and everything worked! Very helpful staff and lovely food. The views from the room were amazing. All in all, this hotel delivered what it had promised and more.

This is a motel. Not a 3 star hotelPosted Jul 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
Crummy hotel. Why is it rated 3 star? It is like a highway motel in the USA. Don't stay here unless you have a low budget.

Outstanding service / great locationPosted Jun 26, 2013
Pros: Friendliness of staff / willing to help
Cons: if anyone is looking for a typical 5 star hotel, this is not - but they certainly make you feel that way.
Location: Scenic views, countryside location, calm and serene atmosphere.
to put it in three words - "Couldnt be better". I would particularly like to convery my thanks to Beata, who went beyond her way to help us out when we were in trouble. I would rank every single memeber of staff in this hotel as OUTSTANDING in terms of their willingness to assist. Location of the hotel was another attraction for us, offering serene and green atmosphere with scenic views. We had a choice of usual 5 star hotel or countryside accomodation and I am glad we chose Laxnes.

Countryside experience with city access!Posted Jun 12, 2013
Pros: The view, the location, and the really comfortable bed
Cons: No small refrigerator or place to store food
Location: Conveniently located near two separate grocery stores and convenience shops that sold candy, ice cream, cigarettes, whatever you needed!
Had a wonderful time! The room had the most gorgeous view of the mountainous terrain in every direction. The staff were very helpful and nice. I felt very welcomed and relaxed in this establishment and would highly recommend it to whomever is looking for a stay in a smaller area outside the city, but with direct and efficient access to the downtown. There is a beautiful park in the local area as well as many trails. The room was clean upon arrival, and cleaned when requested. Excellent breakfast, too! Great for couples, but also great for those traveling alone!

Great little hotelPosted Jun 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place to experience Iceland somewhat away from all of the tourists and much more laid back yet close enough to go do and see what you want. This hotel is a good value.

Excellent accommodations!Posted May 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
Charming rooms, great breakfast, excellent location just outside of Reykjavik with easy drive to Thingvellir National Park. Exceptionally clean, large rooms with mountain views. I highly recommend this location for your Icelandic vacation.
