Very Friendly and helpful StaffPosted Apr 23, 2014
Pros: The staff, cleanliness comfortable beds
Great hotel, staff were very helpful and it was very clean.Only slight downside was the location if you don't have your own car, but there is a bus stop outside the hotel so it is easy to get into or out of Reykjavik. Also if you have your own car it's actually probably better than being in Reykjavik as it's located right next to route 1 so easy to get out and explore. Plus because it was out of the city we were able to see the Northern lights from the hotel.

Nice option outside the cityPosted Apr 11, 2014
Pros: location, price, breakfast
Cons: Not sure it needs improving. It's a mid-range, clean hotel that serves a purpose. But a full hot tub would have been nice.
Location: Alafoss is one stop up the highway and has a great shop for wool items and Icelandic novelties. Then you can head directly towards the sights East.
Laxnes is a good place for the money. It's about a ten to fifteen minute drive into Reykjavik center, if you have a car, which is perfect. We toured the city, had dinner and then had an easy drive back out. (The roads in Iceland are well tended, easy to navigate and don't seem to get major city traffic, since there isn't a huge population.) The hotel itself is fine - there is nothing super special about it, but nothing wrong either. It's off a major road, which is great, but the facility itself is sort of plain: bed, bath, desk with chair, etc. The hot tub (not a natural spa, by the way) wasn't full when we were there and the barman informed us it would take about an hour to fill -- meaning, he didn't really want to fill it for us. The beds looked in worse shape than they were and actually were comfortable to sleep on, and we woke up to an ample breakfast. All in all, given the in-city prices, we were happy to stay just on the outskirts and have an easy starting point for our golden circle tour. In that respect, location, Laxnes is ideal. Across the way there are a few really cute shops and a cafe, and there are fast food and fuel options right near by the lodging.

Hotel LaxnesPosted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: The view - just amazing. The breakfast was ok too
Location: Local amenities available and a great walk down by a river if you fancy an explore near by.
I booked for a weeks stay in the Laxnes at quite short notice and was really pleased. It was about a 30min bus ride outside Reykjavik, which I think made all the difference. The hotel was located in a nice spot, with some local amenities easily accessible. There was also a really nice walk along a small river, with great views. The views from the hotel were amazing, a few great big snow covered mountains and a sunrise over the top to beat most on a tropical island! The room was cleaned everyday, with fresh bathroom towels daily and fresh linen during the week. The room was also pleasant, with a decent sized bathroom and free wifi 24hrs. I would definitely come back and recommend to a friend!

Simple, Amazing, And Cozy!Posted Mar 26, 2014
Pros: Loved the atmosphere and the convenience of it all!
Cons: Maybe the breakfast :P and we did not have a phone in our room which I thought was odd. Also, the TV only had 2 channels.
Location: 15-20 min from Reykjavik via car and across the hotel is a bus. Very convenient! There is also a bar near by, food stores, KFC,Subway..
We stayed here for about 5 nights and had a great time. Their breakfast was the same every morning but there are grocery stores near by as well as a KFC and Subway. They have rooms with a kitchen so if you want to make your own food, this would be convenient since Iceland is expensive. This is only 15-20 min from Reykjavik and we had car so it was no problem. We drove down to the bar every night with no problem. It was easy to get to and straight highway. There is also a bus stop right across the hotel. The place feels like a cross between a hotel and a bed and breakfast. The back of the hotel is a view of the city and mountains so if possible, get a room facing the back. It is prob more possible to see the northern lights that way if you are traveling for that. Overall great time. Loved it!!! The room we had was a double and it was big, clean, and just amazing!

Average hotelPosted Mar 18, 2014
Location: Alafoss nearby has an outlet for bargain sweaters and blankets, etc. Also, a fantastic craftsman of handmade knives.
Not too much to do nearby, so have a car if you want to see anything. Indifferent staff. Average breakfast. Room was warm and comfortable, but no individual temperature control in the room.

Everything about Laxnes was excellentPosted Mar 4, 2014 on Hotels.com
Really enjoyed our stay at Laxnes, the hotel and its staff were warm and friendly The location was perfect with bus stop directly outside giving easy access to town centre only 15 minutes away. Mountains surrounding the hotel made it very special especially at sunrise and during a superb show of northern lights one evening..

Very enjoyable stay in IcelandPosted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: The hotel is warm and clean, some of the morning staff are not very chatty but the reception staff are always very willing to help.
Location: A few places across the road to eat, KFC, Subway, Domino's pizza and a sports bar (not as you would imagine) also serves nice pub style food.
We saw the northern lights,,,,,twice, right above the hotel, absolutely brilliant, i could not stop smiling. A trip to the blue lagoon is expensive but an experience you must try once. The waterfalls are awesome and the geysers are amazing.

Lovely breakPosted Mar 1, 2014
Pros: It was small, comfortable, outside of the city, staff were very helpful and friendly and we got to see the lights over the hotel.
We had a lovely stay at Hotel Laxnes firstly the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have everything you need. We requested a room with a view over the mountains and that's what we got. We picked this hotel as it was outside Reykjavik giving us the best chance to see the northern lights possibly over the hotel and on our last night that's exactly what happened. We were lucky enough to see the lights every night of our stay, either on a tour or just standing outside the hotel. The downside to the hotel is that you don't get a great choice of places to eat. There's a couple of fast food chains, KFC and Dominio's pizza. there is a Sports Bar which serves food and we ate in there on two occasions. Its just a 5 minute walk from the hotel, opens at 5 pm and the food was very good. On our last night we found a small restaurant about 10 - 15 minutes walk away which also served very good food. If you're intending to go out and about a night to enjoy a night club or drinking late then I wouldn't recommend this hotel as its too far outside the city.

Ideal spot for Golden Circle and ReykjavikPosted Feb 26, 2014
Location: We visited 23/24 Feb and were lucky to see the amazing Northern Lights in Thingvellir National Park - 20 mins drive from hotel
Nicely located hotel for access to tours for the Golden Circle and Reykjavik. Hotel is comfortable and we had a stunning mountain view. Shaun was really helpful in his email communications and informative with bus times, etc. There is an outdoor hot tub - sit and look at the mountain view. Supermarket is just across the road. Bus stop is right outside hotel driveway. Comfortable beds, hot showers, nice sized rooms. Iceland is amazing - we did Golden Circle with snowmobiling, Northern Lights tour and Blue Lagoon and it was all breath-taking.
