HORRIBLE PLACE! PLEASE AVOID!
HORRIBLE PLACE! The main entrance door to this center would not open and had to be kicked from inside to open. While trying to enter from outside, we had to bang on the door and side window before someone opened it from inside. Extremely scary when you are with family and arrive late Bathrooms were unclean and filthy, used soap provided. Dustbins overflowing with thrash. Water in the taps had sulphur smell. Kitchen was unclean and dirty. Horrible, worst experience.

DO NOT GO HERE
THIS IS NOT A HOTEL IT IS A HOSTEL! I booked this for my wife who was stranded alone from a canceled flight at KEF. It was the only place remaining on Hotels.com, so the price was so high it was insulting. She was so disgusted by the dirt that she did NOT take a shower. She was in a room with lots of other people mostly men. I'm really glad she made it back without personal harm.

This is a lower cost option, and that is clear. My room was clean and very basic. No TV and a small desk. The heater dial was turned all the way down but was still hot, so I had to leave the window fully open. Bathrooms are in Ok shape, but the showers are cheap, and the ceiling of one bathroom appears to have mold or mildew. The front door sticks and doesn’t always fully close and lock. Trashes we’re full outside, and interior trashes weren’t dumped in the 4 days I was there. One bathroom ran out of toilet paper and that wasn’t replaced. The whole property needs maintenance. The staff had children that were loud after midnight. When returning to Reykjavik, I will look for a different option.

We needed to spend one extra night in Rekjavik and were lucky to find this place to crash. Conveniently located very close to the city center, with pretty comfortable beds and an overall zen atmosphere. This place felt like a very cozy communal house, with shared public spaces and nice private bedrooms.

Here in October and had the place mainly to ourselves. A very good place to recover from jet lag, cook up some food, do laundry, take baths, and enjoy the many rooms in this converted house (including library and attic room-in photos), with absolutely no one bothering you. That being said there was no staff though maybe a family living on premises, just paperwork explaining rules, etc. And it is definitely not in Reykjavík city but in a far outlying residential community. Still if you want peace and quiet and a home-like atmosphere, it is a great spot. We were very grateful to find it.

There was no formal check-in. I didn't even have to give my name. A woman who does not speak Icelandic and could barely speak English gave me a key and told me in which direction the room is. The house itself is quite comfortable and the room was very nice, if small. Next to the house is a sculpture park outside the workshop of an artist named Hallsteinn Sigurðsson, who has been active in art here for about 40 years. The logcation of the house is a comfortable distance from the highway, but not too far. It is a little confusing to navigate the tiny streets of this neighborhood, but that's typical for many of the neighborhoods in the Reykjavík area.

The room we were given was not what we booked. The pictures oversold the property. The property manager did not come out to meet us. He was in an office which seemed to be his living area. He was laying on a mattress be his check in desk which also had a set of bunk beds and personal items everywhere. The property manager said his computer was broken (it was working) and when we reviewed the reservation from the phone, instead of a double room with private bathroom we were given a room in a basement, with 2 twin beds and a shared bathroom. When questioning it twice, he said this is what it was. There were personal items lining the halls. We could not stay and moved to an actual house. We’ve stayed at many places and this has to be the absolute worst experience. Do not believe the pictures and description. When we disputed the reservation with Expedia, they said the property owner would not cancel the reservation and therefore he demanded to be paid for the room we did not book or stay at.

False Advertisement. STAY AWAY!!
I would not stay here again! I've done a lot of travelling and this was one of those false advertising place that I feel other should know about. The room was not as big as the pictures! We had a double bed and a small lamp table and nothing else in the room. We could hardly fit regular size suitcase in there. Getting clothes to change out of our wet rainy stuff was very difficult with 2 people in the room. The bed is pushed right up to the water heater. If you have it on at night you will get burn! No air ventilation so the room is very stuffy and muggy. The bed is hard. The beddings smell moldy and used as if they have not washed from previous traveler. Someone barged into our room early in the morning because the door couldn't be locked. Most people packed their stuff in the living room!! Our room was also next to the kitchen. The owner lives there and use that kitchen to cook, and it smells like salted fish, extremely pungent! Parking is an issue, because it is in a tight cul de sac! For the price that they charged us we felt ripped off. I would rather pay $20 more a night somewhere to get better sleep especially after a long day hike and want to feel comfortable after being in the cold windy rain!

Good luck checking in!
Check-in was after 2pm, so we arrived about 5pm. No one in the hostel, no answer to any of the contact phone numbers, and no reply to messages. We waited around for about half an hour before we took a look round and found the back door was left unlocked. No staff appeared at any time, we still haven't gotten any kind of reply from them. Once inside, the decor and room were fine, nothing special, but the bar had been set pretty low by this point. Thankfully we were only staying one night.

Never stayed since the condition of the building looked nothing like the pictures! None of the numbers given to us worked so we're unable to actually contact someone to gain entrance into the building! We were very frustrated since we had been flying from the US and couldn't wait to settle in for the night.

Could have been so much better
We were greeted by Siggi the friendly manager and the initial impression was a very interesting building with plenty of space and books. I was not impressed when in my bedroom I could write my name in the dust, it was generally grubby and during the first night, I discovered the bed sheets had been used by the previous occupants. The house is would be so much better if the bathroom was cleaned(it was very dirty), the taps fixed, the showers door repaired etc etc. Unless you have a good immune system the kitchen is a no-go area other than to boil a kettle. Siggi needs to go in the kitchen with half a dozen bin bags and empty all the old food, presumably left by long-departed guests, that is in the fridge and left all over the place. One guest who did use the kitchen said she threw some of the old out of date food out to make some room in the fridge! The guesthouse needs a thorough clean and sprucing up - even with Iceland pricing it is not good enough. Stayed September 2016, travelled with friends

This place is huge, modern, and amazing. It's like living in an eccentric wealthy person's house for a while. Art on the walls, TVs, many levels and huge rooms to hang out. Balconies and soaring ceilings.

Not worth the price
The guesthouse is at the end of a residential street and nice neighborhood. We stayed one night before ending our travels. There's some sculpture park right next door too. The beds wobbled when you got up/down, the bathroom shower was very dirty and most other areas were too. We liked the concept of the peace house and the decor was interesting but given the price we paid and its condition would likely not stay again.

Nice home close to Gas Station and Grocery
We a family of 4 rented the double superior room. We had a great time here. It was really peaceful. The Manager on the site ( Mr. Siggi) frequently used to talk to us. He hosted a nice dinner of Fried Cod fish with home grow mushrooms and baked potatoes with some veggies for us on the last day of our stay and we all ate together. He was so cordial through our stay and always inquired what we needed. The Kitchen was well stocked with coffee machine that brewed fresh coffee from the coffee beans. I am still amazed with so much bad review for this hotel. Initially looking at the bad reviews I was little concerned. But my experience was the most amazing experience I ever had. Mr. Siggi really made our stay very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place.

We didn't stay.
We showed up at the 'hotel' the evening of our reservation and there was no one there to greet us. I ended up calling hotels.com and the operator reached out to the owner and said someone should be coming to meet us. Finally after about 30 minutes a woman showed up to the house to let us in. The building itself was poorly kept, looked dilapidated on the outside and the inside was filled with empty beer bottles and dirty dishes. The kitchen area was a mess, and the whole place had a bad smell. It didn't take us long to decided that we weren't going to stay. Even though I had prepaid, we decided it was worth losing out on $100 and going somewhere else for the night to avoid that place.

Minimum hospitality
It was very difficult to find. It was in a very poor location even if you had a car and nearly impossible if you didn't. The cost of a taxi ride was high. The service was horrible. Either the person running it was having a very hard time, or they really disliked offering the service. It had at least 6 bedrooms and we were the only ones there. The only way you knew it was a guesthouse was an 8 x 10 hand printed sign on paper in front window. Given that, the guesthouse itself was wonderful. It would be a great place for a retreat or meeting, as there were many common areas and a good, well stocked kitchen facility.

Why I would not go back there
Unwelcoming from the start and disengaged. No real interaction and no explanation of where things were in the guest house (just here are your keys), not even to point out a one page flyer with some basic guidelines. No information about the surrounding area or the city of Reykjavik. I couldn't wait to drop my bags and get out of there and get back as late as I could.

Totally wrong for solo travelers, with no car
This place is in the suburbs, $32 taxi ride from the city center. I was given my key and then the manager left. No info about wi-fi code, breakfast, etc. Turns out that there was no breakfast, no vending machines either. Found my way to a grocery store about amile away. Room was clean, bed was very comfortable. The shared bath had a nice long tub, but a hand held shower head, and no shower curtain so water went all over the floor. Good lounges and shared kitchens. Nothing nearby of interest. This could be a nice place for a car load of good friends who had a trunk full of food with them, but for a solo traveler with out a car it has nothing to offer except a comfortable bed anda whole lot of inconvience!

August 2014 trip
The only staff operating this facility is the owner of the house. This place is situated in an area accessible easily if you have a car. Otherwise, the bus stop is about 5 minutes walk away. The owner is unfriendly and unhelpful. She does not mention on her information page that she has two dogs on her facility. To me, it constitutes as dishonest advertisement. She was very persistent on us checking in at 2:00 pm and would not negotiate even if it meant us sitting in the cold outside her facility 40 minutes earlier. We waited till 2:00 pm and she was not in the facility. We waited till 3:00 pm and she was still not there. When we called, she told us how to get the hidden keys to get in. What an unwelcoming gesture.

A bad experience with the hotel
My husband and I arrived at the hotel 45 minutes before the 2:00 pm check in time. No one was at the hotel (which by the way, is a home belonging to the owner) so my husband called to see if we could drop our luggages somewhere and come back at 2:00 pm. She had two dogs in the house. The owner answered the call and said to call back 10 minutes later. My husband told the owner that I was allergic to dogs and her only response was "those were my dogs". We called 10 minutes later and was told to check in only after 2:00 pm. The owner then told us that she was in the hospital and could not talk. We waited until 2:20 pm and no one was at the door even though I rang the door bell. By then, we were certain that she was unable to attend to us since she was in the hospital. We made alternative arrangement. I called one last time at about 2:30 pm to let her know that we had to leave since no one was at home to receive us. Immediately, she said she would tell us where she placed the key to the home. I told her I would not go into the house without anyone being present, plus I was allergic to dogs. We both were polite throughout our conversations even though I was very frustrated by the situation. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. For the same price, anyone would be able to get a hotel with staff who understand the needs and situation of travelers and a 24/7 response to phone calls. Luckily, we do not have any young children with us and the weather was nice. We do not have a car with us when we arrived at the hotel. This hotel is only suitable for someone who already has a car.

The guest house was a little difficult to find, but once we located it, we found ourselves in a quiet, suburban neighborhood. Our room was clean, with a balcony that had a lovely view over the city. The floor plan of the house was airy and open. The furnishings were clean but a little worn, with the general atmosphere being that of staying in someone's home. Our bathtub had a handheld shower head, but no curtain, so showering was little awkward, especially for taller folks, but the hot water was plentiful. All the water is rather sulfurous, so it is advisable to buy drinking water. The kitchen and fridge were available for common use. During the two nights we spent there, the other guests were quiet and rarely seen. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Below the usual Icelandic standards!
If very basic is good enough, then the Peace Centre will do. The rooms are small, but comfortable and clean. The rest of the facilities are ok, but the place feels desolate. As for the lady in charge, she is not the owner and doesn't seem interested. She gives you your key, and that's about it! The grounds are completely abandoned, which is a shame because it was probably of very nice at one time. If you see "Breakfast included" on Expedia, it's a mistake. Breakfast will set you back 9.5 euros, and the lady in charge didn't recommend it! One last thing. Don't reserve at the Peace centre if you won't have a car. Nothing of interest is within walking distance.

Quite place to stay
A bit out of the way, good clean facilities and a charming ambiance. Only issue was the proprietor smoked outside the front door in the evening and you would get the smell in your room (we were above the front door) as well as in the office, which meant the place often smelled of cigarettes. Advertised breakfast did not exist...

Far from city center, but worth considering
Our room was quite pleasant, with a bath and toilet just outside of it that was much better than one might expect. The beds were moderately comfortable. The room was rather large. We were 'greeted' by an employee almost with a scowl, and it was quickly explained that if we were expecting breakfast was included (there was some confusion about that among our party), then "the website lied." Finally, this place is several miles from anything you'll want to see in R., so take that into account. Be sure to have a reliable map when you are finding it.

Very Relaxing and Peaceful
The Peace Center definitely lived up to its name and was incredibly peaceful, if a little odd since we were the only ones there. We had one of the 6 (or so) rooms in the beautiful, spacious house, which includes at least 3 full bathrooms, 3 living/sitting rooms, 1 or 2 kitchens, etc. There's a sculpture garden right outside and the hotel is set in a nice, quiet suburban neighborhood so if you want to explore downtown Reykjavik, you'll need to drive a little bit. The only downside was that the wifi was a little spotty but as long as you're there for the peace and not the internet, it's perfect! :)
