Fabulous hotel and locationPosted Jul 14, 2013
Pros: Elevator, beautiful rooms, great breakfast.
Location: Great location for visiting historic Heidelberg - bridge, castle, churches, restaurants - this is the place to be!
The hotel is in the historic part of Heidelberg, just a 2 minute walk from the old and beautiful bridge, great restaurants, shopping, cathedrals, etc. It's immaculate, quiet, and comfortable. Very upscale. Breakfast was fabulous. It was a small splurge, and well worth it! We were visiting our daughter who was studying at the University of Heidelberg - it was close by and easy access to public transportation.

Great Location in HeidelbergPosted Jul 8, 2013
Pros: Location, Location, Location!!! Restaurant/bar was very good. Clean and comfortable if a bit cozy.
Cons: Room size. Add a fan to help keep cool in the warm summer nights.
Location: Tons of things to do in the area. We went to Heidelberg Castle, Philosopher's Way, Allstadt, the old bridge and there is a lot more.
Staff were very helpful upon arriving and helping us to locate our car to the nearest parking garage. The hotel has an EXCELLENT location in the old town right across from the main bridge and next to the cathedral. Very popular area with a ton of restaurants in the area. The hotel restaurant had very good food and was very busy (a local favorite); sometimes hard to find a table. Only 5 -10 minute walk to Heidelberg castle (mostly uphill... way uphill!!!). We had a great time here. The only negative comment that I have is that I don't know where they took the room photos on the website but our room looked nothing like any of those. Our room was pretty small but clean and comfortable. There is so much to do in the area that we did not spend a lot of time in the room. I would stay there again the next time I'm in Heidelberg. Just be aware that the rooms are NOT as large as pictured on the website.

Excellent location, nice staff, nice room, no A/CPosted Jun 25, 2013
Pros: Friendly staff, location, room.
Cons: Install Air Conditioning
Location: Less than half mile away from parking #9 where you get the lift to the castle, restaurants, bars, city center, shopping
We stayed one night at this hotel. The best part is the location. Right in the middle of the old city. The hotel is a mix between a bed&breakfast style and a hotel. Only few rooms and the staff treats you like family. It can get noisy since it's located on a touristic street full of restaurants and bars; lots of people walking. They offered ear plugs which I didn't use and I was fine, but if you like a quiet night, this might not be suited for you. Bathroom and room were clean and cozy. Bfast was buffet style and included in the cost of the room. WiFi was good. The only complain I have is that rooms don't have A/C. Days reach over 90 F, and nights about 70 F. Even with the windows opened it was very warm inside the room, plus the outside noise. But I'll definitely stay there again during milder whether season.

Uniquely German and CharmingPosted Dec 11, 2012
Pros: Vintage feel, clean room, great beds.
Cons: Twin beds were less than desirable for a married couple.
Location: In the middle of old Heidelberg. A short walk to virtually everything except the train station.
Neat, recently renovated, extremely charming. Bed and breakfast type place with a local feel. Not the Hilton, more of a unique experience that was quite fun for a couple of Americans used to cookie-cutter hotels.

A great night in HeidelburgPosted Jul 22, 2012
Pros: Decorations. Friendly and helpful staff.
Location: In between the bridge and the center of the old town. A little difficult to find (our GPS had us driving down restricted streets) but worth the effort
We booked a large room for 3 people. Great location and charming decor - decorating with antiques. Food was fantastic - loved the cafe. In a previous review someone commented about it being loud, but we did not experience that. Our room was overlooking the outdoor cafe. We slept soundly and didn't hear a thing. The hotel was alert to the fact that some people may be sensitive to street noise and left ear plugs for light sleepers on our pillows. We didn't need them. We would definitiely return.

Wonderful historic small hotelPosted Jul 11, 2012
Pros: Cannot beat the location
Cons: street gets loud at night
Location: Best location in the Alt Stadt
Hackteufel is an excellent, historic, small hotel, similar to a bed and breakfast, in the center of the Old City near the Old Bridge. They have a great restaurant serving traditional German food and a very nice German buffet breakfast. You cannot beat the location for this hotel, as it is close to all the main sights (castle, Hauptstrasse, Old Bridge, etc.) Also, the hotel is reasonably priced for the location. We really enjoyed our stay, and the staff was very nice and helpful. The only downside is that the rooms facing the street are loud. The acoustics of the street generate a lot of noise, and there is a lot of nightlife in this area -- even on weeknights. If you need quiet, you will want an interior room.

In the heart of HeidelbergPosted Jun 13, 2012 on Hotels.com
Room was decent but low end in comparison to American standards; towels were limp, beds were hard and pillows nearly useless. The hotel staff however were very nice and the food was top notch. If location is of prime importance and you can live with accommodations on the lower end of the scale this is your place. It truly is in the heart of Heidelberg just 10 minutes from the castle.

Atmosphere & good service; be prepared for NOISE!Posted May 9, 2012 on Hotels.com
This was a great restaurant/B&B. In Old Town near the bridge, funicular to the Castle, and many restaurants along pedestrian streets. This was what we wanted, and we sort of diminished previous comments in the reviews about noise, but after a 14-hour flight, the street noise continued until 3:00 AM, and it took us an extra day to adjust to the time difference!

Hackteufel Hotel HeidelburgPosted Jul 3, 2011 on Hotels.com
this was a very charming and welcoming hotel with a wonderful and caring staff. The only confusing thing was the web site's description of the location relative to the train station. it is a cab ride from the main station. Other than that, the location is the old city is wonderful and fully accesible to everything you would wish to see and do.
