Pleasant and convenientPosted Oct 8, 2012 on Hotels.com
I've stayed here multiple times and recommend it. The location is outstanding for airport access (at least on weekdays breakfast begins at 6:45, which is nice for early flights), and the (nice) city itself is not far away. The hotel has all the virtues of good German train station-area hotels (clean, efficient, pleasant staff). In addition it has good WiFi and breakfast included in a reasonable room rate, which is not a given. (There are also terminals in the lobby, which I didn't use.) Despite that, the rooms are nicer than you'd expect for the price. In short, it's pretty close to perfect: you get some of the feel and benefits of a "family" hotel, with the sparkle and efficiency of a "business" hotel.

Great transition hotelPosted Oct 3, 2012 on Hotels.com
The Hotel Hammer is a great hotel for a short stay in Mainz. We had one of the new suites and it was very comfortable. The location directly across from the tram and main train station makes it very convenient and it is only a 10 minute walk into old Town. Staff is very friendly and were very helpful in assisting with train travel.

We stayed 5 nights in this very nice and recently renovated hotel - convenient location (across the central station and 10 min on foot from the Old Town), clean rooms, cheap breakfast ($5.00 euro per person), secure neighborhood, and extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Enjoyed the hotel very much. Across the plaza from the main train station. Great service, nice breakfast included, Internet in room, walkind distance to Gutenberg museum, river walk, etc.

Great hotel, go for it...Posted Mar 5, 2012
Cons: poor wifi connection in my room
Location: perfect for late arrival from train station and walking distance to university and sites.
Nice staff who were always available. Clean room and recently done up. Nice breakfast with lots of coffee. Next to the train station. Only downside was smallish bed and not the best wifi connection in my penthouse room. Worth a stay...

Best option for Frankfurt AirportPosted Nov 16, 2011
Location: Downtown Mainz and along the Rhine, plenty to see and non-tourist-infalted shopping
Herr Hammer and his family run a fine hotel in a wonderful location a few steps from Mainz rail station. Walk to the restaurants and nightlife of Mainz, or to the Rhine cruises, yet be 20 minutes from Frankfurt airport by rail without relying on the uncertain timetable of a hotel-shuttle. The rooms are not large, but clean and well-equipped. Breakfast is free, the spectacular spread common in Germany and the kitchen will cook your eggs and bacon to suit. There's a bar, no restaurant but no need with so many on the doorstep. One reason this hotel feels classy is that the rooms don't have crass advertising on nasty little triangles of cardboard, and the walls in the common areas have paintings not the hideous advertising posters which make US hotel chains look so crummy. Yes, there is a poster in the elevator, regularly changed, but it's always something cheerful: a joke or something uplifting like "smile at someone today". The Hammer - cheerful, uplifting and super-convenient for the airport.

Hotel Hammer in Mainz - in the heart of the cityPosted Oct 23, 2011 on Hotels.com
We chose Hotel Hammer because it is in walking distance to all bus lines in and out of the city as well as the main train and S-bahn station connecting Mainz to all sourrounding cities. The hotel is very quiet even with the close proximity to the train station. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The room was large enough with a double bed and an extra sleeper couch. It had a large flat screen TV and a nice bathroom. A wonderful breakfast was served every morning. We purchased a weekly pass for the bus/S-bahn system for Euor 20.00 per person and travelled all over town and outside of the city. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definately stay at this hotel again and recommend it to everybody who travels to Mainz

Hotel by Mainz Train StationPosted Jun 8, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel is clean and renovated, the rooms and bathrooms were clean but sparse. The breakfast was good but the location is terrible for parking and terrible for noise. Ity is located right by the major train and bus stations and not convenient other than by public transportation. The selection fo restaurants was not good and all required a walk or drive through congested streets with poor parking opportunities
